d_wag Posted March 16, 2005 Share Posted March 16, 2005 starting today, any team that signs their f-tagged player to a long-term contract loses their f-tag for the length of that contract..........this rule is lifted on july 15 and the player can then be signed to a long-term deal with no penalties....... my question is what is the point of this rule? it's not good for the player or the team, thus isn't good for the game, so what does it accomplish? any ideas? bobblehead Posted March 16, 2005 Share Posted March 16, 2005 My guess is that the union wanted this to force teams to sign long-term contracts earlier, or to forego using the franchise tag altogether and just sign long term contracts from the get-go.
