"Iraq receives Russian fighter jets to fight rebels" http://m.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-28077273 Russia is supporting the Shiite govts directly in Syria, partially in Iran, and now directly in Iraq too. Contrast that with US supporting anti-govt Sunni's in Syria while simultaneously supporting shiite govt in Iraq against those benefitting from our support in syria. As Russia solidifies its role within Shiite community look for them to soften their support for Iran nuclear sanctions too. This puts US in the unenviable box of either a) moving closer to Iran for continued convoluted strategy or b) moving further from Iraq and more exclusively aligning with sunni's, wherein the most fanatical Islamist elements lie. Nanker Posted June 29, 2014 Share Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) So is this the start of WWIII, a reprise of the Spanish Revolution, a Re-Start of the Cold War, the beginning of a new Balkanization of the MidEast, an expected hangover from WWI's demise of the Ottoman Empire, or simply more opportunism on the part of 2nd and 3rd world powers to maximize their footprint internationally after decades of decline in the midst of shifting global economic power and influence to/from the US and China? Remember the wonderfully appreciated Arab Spring and the anticipation of the positive democratic reforms that it promised? That was during our own Summer of Recover IV - or was it III? So much happens around Washington that it's difficult to keep track of the salient accomplishments of this regime. Oh, and speaking of the Arab Spring... it's Summer now, so let's not forget the self-determinization aspects of the various sects of Muslim hooligans who, after centuries of irrelevance, subjugation by foreign and domestic tyrants, and repression by dwarfish local economies are currently finding their shrill, angry voice in murder/suicide and other acts of iconoclasm and reactionary hatred to the west - America in particular. But ask yourself this: Does Obamacare? I don't think so. He rules an imaginary mental kingdom of his own fantasy which is bereft of reality, steeped in leftist dogma, but mostly self-centered. He sees nothing to be lost by playing possum in the Middle East while it fizzles and burns except the general decline of US influence in the region which he views as a positive. Meanwhile he's become a complete pawn to the established, entrenched real powers in America. He'd be powerless to change their desires even if he wanted to - but he doesn't. He's been bought hook, line, and sinker as he has been through his entire life. He has nothing to offer that part of the world except Hopelessness and Chains. The American people at least have an opportunity to be rid of this lout in two years, but it will be decades if not longer before we recover from the hangover that this charlatan gave the country and the world. The pivot toward Asia coupled with the misadventure in Ukraine, will bring Russia and China closer together in alliance against us, that's pretty much a given and historically these 3 nations have been shifting alliances amongst themselves. The more problematic thing to take note of is how the other super power (at least super populace) country in the region india aligns itself. It seems like they may join the russo-chinese alliance to form one super-asia pact. In that case US gets even closer to Pakistan, another sunni country with a strong radicap element. Which of course feeds right back into our convoluted Mideast policy. And given Pakistan and Iran don't like each other, probably drives Iran deeper into the super-asia pact, all 4 of which share a common problem with sunni separatists .... So then you'd have a super alliance stretching from the south china sea all the way to Persian gulf. At odds with US and its odd alliane of sunni countries and Israel. I don't know what will happen of course, lot of conjecture, but what is clear is that underlying forces are unsettling .... Security Posted June 30, 2014 Share Posted June 30, 2014 The US needs to focus a little more on the immigrant crisis around the world now. People are fleeing from poorly governed places and risking their lives more and more, the USA has ignored Central America and Africa for a while now, many of these places need us to intervene and help bring something, F the Middle East for now. It was a mistake to ever go there (even EVERY SINGLE POLITICIAN NO MATTER THE PARTY AGREED TO), it was a mistake to leave, but screw them now.
