January Movies: Jack Ryan, I,Frankenstein, & Devil's Due....

Happy New Year to everyone. With 2013 in the books a new year of movies awaits us. Of course if your looking for something worthwhile, then you are better off watching the movies contending for Oscar, because this is the start of the "Garbage Season". For the next two months movie studios will be releasing their lowest possible brands before the warmer months of the year. Having said all of that, there is bound to be something that will catch a moviegoers eye.

 

The latest Captain Kirk(Chris Pine) attempts to breathe life into another movie franchise, the Kenneth Branagh directed "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit". Jack Ryan, as a young covert CIA analyst, uncovers a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack. Also starring Kevin Costner, Keira Knightley & Kenneth Branagh.

 

Aaron Eckhart stars in "I, Frankenstein". Frankenstein's creature finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans. Also starring Bill Nighy, Miranda Otto & Yvonne Strahovski.

 

In "Devil's Due", After a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything for posterity, the husband begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially write off to nerves, but, as the months pass, it becomes evident that the dark changes to her body and mind have a much more sinister origin. Starring Allison Miller, Zach Gilford & Steffie Grote.

 

In "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones", After being "marked," Jesse begins to be pursued by mysterious forces while his family and friends try to save him. Starring Andrew Jacobs, Jorge Diaz, Gloria Sandoval & Gabrielle Walsh.

 

In the animated "The Nut Job", Surly, a curmudgeon, independent squirrel is banished from his park and forced to survive in the city. Lucky for him, he stumbles on the one thing that may be able to save his life, and the rest of park community, as they gear up for winter - Maury's Nut Store. Starring the voices of Will Arnett, Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fraser & Liam Neeson.

 

Zac Efron stars in "That Awkward Moment". Three best friends find themselves where we've all been - at that confusing moment in every dating relationship when you have to decide "So...where is this going?" Also starring Miles Teller & Michael B. Jordan.

 

In "The Legend of Hercules", The origin story of the the mythical Greek hero. Betrayed by his stepfather, the King, and exiled and sold into slavery because of a forbidden love, Hercules must use his formidable powers to fight his way back to his rightful kingdom. Starring Kellan Lutz, Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins & Roxanne McKee.

 

Finally, Ice Cube & Kevin Hart star in "Ride Along". Fast-talking security guard Ben joins his cop brother-in-law James on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta in order to prove himself worthy of marrying Angela, James' sister. Also starring Tika Sumpter & John Leguizamo.

Had no idea Jack Ryan was headed to the big screen, I have read all of the Clancy books and really looking forward to seeing this. Thanks for the monthly posts, they are very helpful.

This movie was supposed to come out just before Christmas, but Paramount wisely moved it so it would not get lost in the mix.

 

However, moving it to January is not a good sign, but we shall see.
