With the holidays coming ever so closer, the month of October brings a variety of films to close out the "Adult Season". With "The Lion King" & "Dolphin Tale" being the surprise money makers this Fall, movie studios must be scratching their heads as to what audiences really want to see. Before the next set of Tent pole & Oscar films roll out in the months of November & December, October has action, drama, comedy & of course a few scares lined up perfectly before Halloween.

 

Hugh Jackman headlines the robot boxing movie, "Real Steel". Set in the near future, where robot boxing is a top sport, a struggling promoter feels he's found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father. Also starring Evangeline Lilly.

 

A pair of films that will have chills & thrills for Halloween, could also end up being big money makers.

 

First there is the re-make, "The Thing". At an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Joel Edgerton.

 

Coming in it's third time around is, "Paranormal Activity 3". In 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity who resides in their home. Starring Katie Featherston.

 

Justin Timberlake & Amanda Seyfried headline the sci-fi/thriller, "In Time". In the future people stop aging at 25 and must work to buy themselves more time, but when a young man finds himself with more time than he can imagine he must run from the corrupt police force to save his life. Also starring Cillian Murphy.

 

George Clooney stars and directs, "The Ides of March". An idealistic staffer for a newbie presidential candidate gets a crash course on dirty politics during his stint on the campaign trail. Based on the play by Beau Willimon. Also Starring Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei & Evan Rachel Wood.

 

Johnny Depp headlines, "The Rum Diary". American journalist Paul Kemp takes on a freelance job in Puerto Rico for a local newspaper during the 1950s and struggles to find a balance between island culture and the ex-patriots who live there. Also starring Giovanni Ribisi, Aaron Eckhart, Amber Heard & Richard Jenkins.

 

In "Margin Call", a thriller that revolves around the key people at a investment bank over a 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis. Starring Kevin Spacey, Stanley Tucci, Zachary Quinto, Jeremy Irons, Paul Bettany, Simon Baker, Demi Moore, Mary McDonnell & Penn Badgley.

 

In "The Three Musketeers", The hot-headed young D'Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war. Starring Logan Lerman, Matthew McFadyen, Ray Stevenson, Orlando Bloom, Luke Evans, Milla Jovovich & Christoph Waltz.

 

Dreamworks animation releases, "Puss in Boots". A story about the events leading up to the sword fighting cat's meeting with Shrek and his friends. Starring the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek & Zach Galifianakis.

 

Owen Wilson, Jack Black & Steve Martin headline the comedy, "The Big Year". Three avid bird watchers compete to spot the rarest birds in North America at a prestigious annual event.

 

"Anonymous" is, a political thriller advancing the theory that it was in fact Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford who penned Shakespeare's plays; set against the backdrop of the succession of Queen Elizabeth I, and the Essex Rebellion against her. Starring Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave & David Thewlis.

 

In the remake "Footloose", city kid Ren McCormack moves to a small town where rock 'n' roll and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes up the populace. Starring Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid & Andie McDowell.

 

In "Sleeping Beauty", a haunting portrait of Lucy, a young university student drawn into a mysterious hidden world of unspoken desires. Starring Emily Browning, Rachael Blake & Ewen Leslie.

 

Finally, in "Johnny English Reborn", Johnny English goes up against international assassins hunting down the Chinese premier. Starring Rowan Atkinson, Rosamund Pike, Dominic West & Gillian Anderson.
