Draconator Posted December 2, 2004 Share Posted December 2, 2004 Right-hander Tim Hudson will leave the A's as a free agent after the 2005 season if the team does not sign him to a contract extension by March 1, Hudson's agent Paul Cohen told the Sporting News. Hudson wants to remain with the A's, Cohen said, and would be comfortable playing out next season if no agreement is reached. He also would be fine, the agent said, if the team decided to trade him. Hudson reached his decision after witnessing the departures of former teammates Jason Giambi, Jason Isringhausen and Miguel Tejada, all of whom remained in limbo during their free-agent years. "As a friend, he hated the way those guys dangled," Cohen said. "He does not want to be put in the same situation those guys were in. If he is, as a businessman, he will respect it. But, as a businessman, he has made a decision as well. He doesn't want fans to wake up in spring training or the middle of April and say, 'Wow, we didn't see this coming.' " The question now is whether the A's will increase their efforts to sign Hudson or increase their efforts to trade him. OnTheRocks Posted December 2, 2004 Share Posted December 2, 2004 the Reds are so desparate for pitching, but if they can't sign him for a minimum hourly wage, they won't be bidding......thanks to Carl Lindner keeping the payroll at or around 50 Million.
