So perhaps he had some help with the Dolphins defense. I found an interesting article, posted a link http://www.bucem.com/2009/1/27/737218/mont...in-vs-jim-bates Hiring old retreads seemed to work for Dick Vermeil in St Loius, maybe is another good ole boy Bates was interim HC at Miami and went 3-4 and even beat the Patriots (SB team) that year. He went to Green Bay for 2 years as DC and when they fired Mike Sherman he was up for consideration as HC. They didn't hire him and he took it hard.The guy hasn't had a top defense since.
