Boatdrinks Posted January 4, 2010 Share Posted January 4, 2010 What is so special about the 3-4? You can have a good defense running the 4-3 and doing so does not require blowing up the defense. The 3-4 is simply the weapon of choice in defending the modern (passing) offense. It allows you to disguise looks, making the QB's job more difficult . It is also easier to find quality LB's than great DL's. This is simply genetics, the LB physical body type is genetically more common. Passing games are much more prolific these days and a 4-3 front is pretty much what you see is what you get from a QB perspective. Teams get yards in big chunks and the old "tampa 2" philosophy of hoping the offense makes a mistake before they can finish a long drive is outdated. It's more important to put the onus on a QB to dissect what he is seeing post snap, because it is not what it appeared pre snap.
