  1. The Bills 1st is later than 23 and they don't have a WR as valuable to offer as Doubs.

Trading Kincaid saves just $270K on the cap. Trading Coleman costs you an additional $900K. Those aren't realistic trade candidates for a team that is going to have to work to get under the cap IMO.

  2. They will go with Bernard and Milano this year as the top 2 starters with Williams as the 1st backup and the #3 LBer for when they want to go with more trad 4-3 sets (which I think they will do a little more of moving forward). Milano has 2 years left on his deal and zero GTD money and they can get out relatively easily after this year. Just makes zero sense to trade him or Williams. Off ball LBers have almost zero trade value unless you are an elite player. I think they will ask Milano to take a paycut this year or move some of his $$ into NLTBE bonuses while GTDing some of his salary, then move off of him after this season and go with Williams and Bernard next year.

Feels like putting a 2nd Round Pick into a Safety last season and then signing the most expensive Safety on the market this season is a lot of resources put into that position group.

But if they feel Cole Bishop needs another year after missing Training Camp last season (and looking overwhelmed as a Rookie) and the plan is to move on from Taylor Rapp after this year and have Cole Bishop replace him then - it could make some sense.

We do need a replacement and upgrade from Damar Hamlin. Though Holland would be a lot of money and I'd definitely be prioritizing the starting replacements at WR and CB and upgrades at DE and 1T DT first.

It's actually not a bad overall strategy to pair a rookie contract with a high end FA one.

"The NFL's Rooney Rule rewards teams that develop minority candidates for general manager (GM) and head coach positions with compensatory draft picks:

    Compensation

Teams receive a third-round compensatory pick for two years if they lose a minority candidate to another team. If the team loses both a coach and an executive, the pick is extended for a third year."

The "problem" with the compensation aspect of the Rooney Rule is that it arguably disincentivizes  a team from hiring from a divisional or even conference rival.

I'd be willing to trade Gray for two 3rd round picks but I have a hard time believing that the Jets will be the team that hires him.

We have 4 years of evidence that this is not the case. If the teams like the candidate for the job, they aren't going to balk at hiring them because a division rival gets a pair of late 3rd round picks.

    Intra-conference comp picks

LA received comp picks for ATL hiring Raheem Morris.

SF received comp picks for WAS hiring Martin Mayhew.

BAL received comp picks for HOU hiring David Culley.

NO received comp picks for ATL hiring Terry Fontenot. (Divisional)

LA received comp picks for DET hiring Brad Holmes

    Inter-conference comp picks

SF received comp picks for TEN hiring Ran Carthon.

CLE received comp picks for MIN hiring Kwisi Adofo Mensah.

KC received comp picks for CHI hiring Ryan Poles.

SF received comp picks for MIA hiring Mike McDaniel.

SF received comp picks for NYJ hiring Robert Saleh.

  5. Its a VERY narrative based award and usually goes to:

    1. Turnaround Narrative - New coach who gets a previously bad team into the playoffs (Daboll in 22, Stefanski in 20)

    2. Adversity Narrative - Established coach who overcomes perceived extreme adversity (Stefanski in 23, Arians in 12)

    3. Just the Best Narrative - Established coach whose team just wins a ton of games (Harbaugh in 19, Rivera in 15)

If the Bills went 15-2, obviously beating the Lions in the process, AND the Chiefs drop another game, the Bills would have the best record in the NFL and they'd have won 12 straight games. I think that is the only was he gets the award. It would be a very strong case for "Just the Best Narrative"

  6. No Taron Johnson or Terrell Bernard on defense and I think Rapp left pretty early as well. Offensively, Shakir was hobbled and was less effective than usual and I don't think the Bills had any answers for a team that just committed to playing man coverage all game. The game was also 21-10 in the 3rd Q with Bills fumbling at mid field on that terrible trick play. Not saying that the Bills offense was moving the ball super effectively but I think everyone who took this game as a sign that the Bills couldn't compete with good teams does need to reevaluate the personnel discrepancy. Plus, this was Ravens at home on prime time. They play very well in that spot.

Same with the Texans game. Bad start on defense (with key guys out) and the offense couldn't figure out how to deal with man coverage. And again, this game ended on a walk-off 50+ yard FG as time expired.

The season is a journey, especially for a team who is transitioning SEVERAL players into new roles.

I dont see Daboll going to another HC role.  He was brought in to improve Jones, and he didnt do it.  I find it hard that another team would give him the HC role with a young QB.  Maybe an OC role, but HC I dont see happening

Yeah - I agree. Thats not a ranked list but there is a glut of offensive minds who will get looks for HC jobs. I don't know if Brady is in that top tier just yet.

My first thought seeing this list:

I'm worried about losing Joe Brady and/or Bobby Babich. Both ascending coaches with good backgrounds.

The one that would really sting is Brady. It's awful watching Josh have to work with a new coordinator every single year and spinning the roulette wheel to potentially get a Dorsey type character again.

There could be as many as 10 openings this offseason but the buzz is that teams are looking for "culture-builders" and I think as far as OCs go Brady isn't in the top tier of potentially available options.

    Potentially available offensive "minds"

    Ben Johnson

    Kevin Stefanski

    Todd Monken

    Drew Pentzing

    Arthur Smith

    Bobby Slowik

    Brian Daboll

    Joe Brady

    Kellen Moore

  9. Done Deals

NY Jets - I think they do a full house cleaning

New Orleans Saints - I do think Joe Brady could be an real option for them

    All But Over

    Jacksonville Jaguars - yes

    Chicago Bears - yes

    Dallas Cowboys - yes

    Very Possibly Over

    Las Vegas Raiders - yes

Carolina Panthers - Canales will get a bit of run here IMO

Indianapolis Colts - I think the HC is safe but Ballard could be in trouble b/c Irsay wants QB situation resolved. If their is a viable QB solution that they could find, I think they all stay.

New York Giants - I think this a clear spot for Belicheck

    Possible Surprises
Cincinnati Bengals - Zac Taylor is signed thru 2026 and I don't think the offense has been the problem so this would surprise me.

Cleveland Browns - Vrabel is already there as a consultant and sounds like it could happen before the end of the season.

Philadelphia Eagles - I think Sirianni is safe but will be dependent on the rest oof the season.

  10. Realistic best case scenario IMO based on remaining schedule and our injury status is to grab the #2 or #3 seed while being able to load manage certain guys down the stretch (not a pure resting of guys but rather being able to err on the side of caution with playing guys thru injury) and hope that Baltimore and Pittsburgh beat up on each other a bit and Houston ends up in that other #2 or #3 seed.

That likely gets you a WC round home game and then play Houston in the divisional round either home or road while Baltimore and KC play each other in divisional round.

So are there any legit rumors/links between the Bills and any specific players ahead of trade deadline?  Or is this all everyone just throwing names out they hope we would look into?

Jordan Schultz mentioned that they were looking at LB and S.

He’s worse than Diggs, actually. This will be the second team he has become a malcontent with as well as the shoving of a cameraman after a game. Diggs doesn’t have that in his bio.

Was he a malcontent in GB? He refused to sign an extension because of the Aaron Rodgers situation and the uncertainty of their QB situation moving forward.

In LV, he signed an extension there based on his relationship with Carr and wanting to play with him. LV benched Carr after like 14 games of them playing together and treated Carr like trash on his way out so that McDaniels could sign Jimmy G, which was an utter failure. Now he's playing with Minshew and Aiden O'Connell. One could argue that LV has been dishonest with him almost from the jump. For a WR with only a few prime years left, I think he's justified in wanting out of there.

If I'm looking at this right, Samuel's guaranteed $ was due at signing and already paid.  So the dead cap is already accounted for

His cap hit is $3.4 for this year.  Would that then become available space in a trade?

This is similar to when we traded Diggs, his dead cap was 27 million or whatever....but the $ was already paid and accounted for

It was not additional $ against the cap for this year, or a very small amount

The way i'm reading it on overthecap, trading Samuel saves 1.68M this season and just under $4M on next year's cap

How many mid season player for player trades even are there in all of the nfl? Lol. I can’t think of any offhand

Recent trades with extensions/re-worked contracts after the trade:

    TJ Hockenson

    Leonard Williams (2x)

    Montez Sweat

    Ezra Cleveland

    Bradley Chubb

    Roquan Smith

    Marcus Peters

EDIT: Just realized you said player for player, which these aren't. But any Adams trade would have the main component from the Bills being a draft pick

I don’t know…this level of compensation does not sound like a Beane move for a player 32 years old and expected to be a half year rental as his contract makes him a sure cut next year.  And given how much he prioritizes playing with his buddies, I would expect him to land in NO or where ever Rodger’s is if he plays another year once he is a FA.

So I’m just gonna say I’m quite skeptical this is accurate.  Lots of people who say they have “sources” close to the situation all have wildly different insights.  So they can’t all be correct.

I think if they are offering a 2, it would be with the Raiders eating his 2024 salary and the Bills and Adams agreeing to a new contract beyond this year. His spotrac market value (factoring in his age and production) is 2 yr deal with about a 20M AAV.

In no world are they offering a 2 for a half season of Adams IMO

  16. 8 minutes ago, Bangarang said:

There's no reason to have him rework his current contract when you can just cut him at the end of the season and re-sign him to a new deal. He either wants to be here or he doesn't. Why take on the risk of having dead cap space with a reworked contact for a WR that's already 32? That's part of the reason we even got into cap trouble.

Again, this all just speculating on what the situation could be if all of these parties (Raiders, Bills, Adams) are talking.

First thing that Bills establish with both the Raiders and Adams agents is that they are not interested in a rental situation.

Raiders and Bills convo is easy - Raiders want a 2 and the Bills let them know what conditions need to be met for them to give a 2 for Adams, i.e. low cap hit this year and managable cap hits in future years which is going to require Adams and Bills to negotiate a new contract.

Between Adams and Bills - You would have to re-work the current contract because he has a cap hit of 35M in 2025 and 2026, none of GTD, and the Bills are a cap team. If you are going to tell him "Hey - we are going to just cut you after this year and do a new deal at the end of the season" then he's going to say "Ok, I'll be going to the open market and you can bid against all these other teams."

Right now, the Bills and Adams would just be negotiating against risk of injury for Adams and current deals of recently extended 30 YO WRs.

BTW - Davante's agency also represents Brandon Beane so there is absolutely a clear working relationship there.

  17. 13 minutes ago, Bangarang said:

This is such nonsense and literally doesn't make any sense. There's zero chance the compensation would ever be that high for what would be a 1 year rental. Also, the deal can't happen unless the Raiders eat a lot of his contract so the whole reworking of the contract talk wouldn't even be an option here.

I don't know if the rumor is true BUT if the Bills are asking him to re-work his deal beyond this year than that means that the Bills interest would be in Adams being here at cheap cap hits for this and next year (and maybe 2026) and with an easy way to move off from him as he gets older. IMO that is a situation that is worth a 2nd round pick. I agree with you that a rental situation is not worth a 2nd round pick.

If Adams isn't willing to re-work his contract after this season, it has nearly everything to do with him wanting to go to FA after this year.  He has base salaries of 35M for the next 2 years (none of it GTD) but he and his agent aren't dumb and know that nearly anyone who is trading for him are not going to be interested a 35M cap hit next season so they pretty much know that he is getting released after this year OR he is going to simply negotiate a brand new contract with the acquiring team. And yes - its entirely possible that after a ton of years in GB that he doesn't want to effectively end his career in Buffalo.

Yeah I agree with this, just with Davis they are giving him one carry on a predictable run call.  They need to leave him in a series and maybe even put both him and Cook back there together like Saints used to do.  Right now when they put Davis in it has been pretty predictable what the next play is going to be.  I want to see them run the offense the same whether Cook or Davis was back there to keep the defense guessing

I think they can work toward that dual RB thing but I think I would like to see Ty Johnson get those mid series changeup carries and just give Davis his own series or two per game right now to get him going. He's had some nice runs but also some runs where you can kind of tell he's trying to figure things out.

I do understand the philosophy of switching the RB mid series. If Cook hits and 8 yard run on 1st down, I don't hate the idea of hitting the defense right again with a more downhill RB. I know its heresy but explosive plays are allowed to come out of the running game too. Every 2nd and short doesn't have to be a PA or shot play.
