  1. I don't understand how a lot of people can post things like "fire jauron", "draft a QB". This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Did you guys know Buffalo is the third youngest team in the league? Do you remember when Coughlin was on the brink of being fired, and Eli was about to be benched? Then what happened? Ohh yeah, they shut everybody up by winning the superbowl. Give it some time. Trent is so young, and shows so much promise. Eli, Peyton, Cutler, and most QB's took 2 or 3 years to become solid QB's. We know Trent is smart, accurate, a hard worker, and a good face for the Bills. Everyone who calls for replacing him is just ignorant to how football works.

    Which brings me to my next point. FIRE JAURON? I don't think so. The man has the respect of his team, and he is full of football knowledge. Once again, our team is so young! We have players who will be great (Marshawn, Trent, Evans, Poz, etc.) JUST LET THEM MATURE. Jauron is just like Marv Levy with his approach. He is quiet, has a lot of football knowledge, and doesn't take crap (notice we don't have an Ocho Cinco or Moss). Listen to the press conferences on Bills.com. You'll constantly hear players praise Coach Jauron. He can't go out there and get experience for them. He can't accelerate experience. We've been tearing everything down and starting all over again every 3 years since Jim Kelly left. DON'T YOU THINK IT'S TIME TO STICK WITH WHAT WE HAVE? We have potential, and that's very valuable if you're willing to let the young players that we have mature.

    I agree with the basic idea of your post here, Poz. I think sometimes people forget that there is only so much to go around in the NFL every offseason and you cannot really blow up a team and start over, while expecting to play well. You would have to hit on multiple FAs and nearly all of your draft. As much as people point to a particular team/GM/draft and say, "Wow, that's what the Bills need," there is no easy and quick way to achieve that. There is a lot of luck that goes into it. I think it's a lot easier to say that the Colts for instance (who everyone would probably say is a good drafting team) need a center last year, so they go out and draft 3 of them. The Bills need a center, but they also need 10 other things, so it becomes a lot harder to draft 3 centers and still try to fill other positions. What you end up with is trying to make the most of what limited resources you have and making concessions to get the best group as opposed to just focusing on filling a position.

    Pink-slipping the coach and talking about totally new schemes and personnel are not at all constructive at this time. The Bills are young and learning. They are also undersized for some part. They have spent the last three years acquiring talent that we hadn't had here in a long time: speed. There was a time when our linebackers were getting juked at the goalline by Chad Pennington (worst non-playoff Bills moment ever). It is quite possible that this offseason they finish up the d-line and add a few pieces to the o and have a great chance to really take a step next year.

    Next year the AFC East even looks easier. Favre is only 50-50 on playing with the Jets next year and they are nowhere near as good without him. The Pats wasted a year of all their old, vetern talent with Brady out. The Dolphins might actually get better... Or fall apart the year after being decent like every Chad Pennington team ever (one year up, one year down). Next year, with some more, continued improvement over the this year, we could be looking pretty good.

    I say let them have another year of it - maybe do something about the play-calling - and see where this thing goes. They are not that far away from a playoff team, especially with a few new players.

  2. If we lose in Toronto - in fact if we are downright embarrassed by a first year coach of the Dolphins team in our debut regular season game in Canada, I'll bet dollars to donuts that Jauron is shown the door sooner than later.

    So here goes (gulp) - Go Dolphins! :P

    Go Dolphins!?

    Blasphemy!

    Revoke that poster's account, he is no longer one of us. I may not like the coach, but I will never root for the Dolphins.

    (Go Bills, fire Dick)

  3. another difference between the two teams is scheme.........the bills play the tampa two......which is notorious for not stopping the run....the only team to ever stop the run using it was tampa when they had warren sapp....i sure miss the days when the bills trotted out "the package" to stop the run(ted washington,pat williams)....go bills!

    Truly a marquee period in Bills history. We had a real, NFL defense back then. One thing I always wanted them to do more often (f-ing Wade) was to play more 4-3 intermingled with their 3-4 base.

    Good times.

  4. So far this season the total number of sacks we've got from the defensive end position is 5.

    5 sacks TOTAL from Schobel (1), Kelsay (1), Denny (2) and Bryan (1). That's a simply pathetic output.

    I think the Bills should trade Schobel, cut Kelsay and Denny. Then pool all of that extra money to go out and try to get Julius Peppers. 5 sacks from the defensive end position is never going to get the job done if you have any notions of being a contending team. Is this not the one player that fits our team like a glove? You can't take it with you Ralph.

    Sign me up for Peppers, but I'd rather go into the season with Peppers, Schobel and Kelsey or Denny riding the pine. I can't see why, when you are not up against the cap, you cut players that can contribute. Vindiction for a poor contract by management or because you don't like the guy does not help the Bills win.

  5. eddie royal would not look good here. he is the same the same type of receiver lee evans and roscoe parish are. he is a small burner with the ability to hit the long ball at anytime. if u read that more carefully u would see that it says "perfect fit oppsosite Brandon Marshall", who is 6'4 and 220 lbs. What we need is that Brandon Marshall type of receiver thats a "perfect fit opposite Lee Evans"

    Good call Dr. It's funny how in the offseason everyone looks at measurables of players and prospects and how they should fit together and then when the season comes, the 5'10" or 11" guy looks like he's 6'4" and a perfect compliment to the rest of our under 6' WR corps.

  6. that's great, but to go back to my point: why would tony gonzalez want to play for buffalo? kansas city is a team that isn't doing that badly, with a quarterback that actually gets the ball to his playmakers. what's buffalo doing? declining, with a QB that checks down to his running back 10 times a game and turns the ball over like it's going out of style.

    Are you really trying to say that Kansas City is a better team than Buffalo? I mean, I understand that they nearly won their second game of the season a few times, but they were basically out of the playoffs and in the running for a top 5 pick in the draft when the trade deadline came. Buffalo is still in the playoff race, though not where they were, and only two and a half games out of first in the division. Just cause something is unlikely (Buffalo in playoffs) does not mean it is impossible (KC in playoffs).

  7. A serious knee injury might be what we need to keep Greer on the team. Missing the last half of the year and a knee injury will kill his value. Sign him for the right price while we can, and let him take his time rehabing. That may allow us to lose McGee the following year, and save some of Ralphs 401k.

    Agree 100% about McKelvin/Corner. I was very down on McKelvin this year, but his play last night made me think he can be close to lock down. That kick return TD may be the turning point in his season, as after that he was pretty great in coverage. The only time I even remeber him being tested was on his dropped pick. Corner has been very solid all year, and played a lot better than a 4th rounder. Youboty can still start in this league as well. We may have a very good, young group of corners on our hands.

    I hope he reminds me of Winfield for the rest of his career (I'll even take the stone hands if he cover).

  8. We do like to use the fullback occasionally. There is this one specific deceptive play that we run sometimes on short yardage (when we don't employ the empty backfield). Anyway on this particular play the FB and RB are lined up in I formation directly behind the QB. Now the deceptive part...we take a TE and motion him left or right and he stops and kind of runs in place (more of a shuffle really) behind either the left or right guard and tackle. Here's were the deception really kicks in...at the snap the QB pivots and the FB fires out to the side of the line that contains the shuffling TE. The QB hands the ball off to the RB and he then follows the FB who's hanging out with the TE. The defense tends to congregate in that same space so everyone gets together and moshes around until the RB is dropped for a loss.

    Watch for this play on Sunday!!!!!!!!!!

    That's my favorite play/sarcasm off

  9. That was NOT an easy catch...Neither was the one Ko dropped...But that's exactly what happens to The Bills...It's always so close but rarely enough...

    Plus...Leodis played his best all-around Game as a Pro yet...His coverage was better than it's been and his Returns...well...With the Field position he gave the Offense, plus the TD I don't know what more the Kid could have done...Plus when they were kicking away from Him Freddie was getting the Ball up past the 40...

    How can you point the finger at McLovin this Game? No freaking way... :wallbash:

    I'd go a step further and say that if it weren't for Lynch having a huge game, he would have been the best player on our team last night. The guy covered pretty well. I can't knock a guy for missing that pick either - it was a hell of a play to just get in front of it. And that kick return, had they won, would have been considered the turning point in the game. Talk about timing. This could have been his turn-the-corner game a la Revis about mid-way through last year.

    I read some one's rant today (can't remember where) about how the Bills have no great players, just a bunch of above average to average guys. The point was that those great players are the ones that the team leans on to make a big play at a crucial time to take over a game. I think it's pretty clear that the Bills don't have that guy (or at least a guy who is ready to be that guy) on the team, but I think that could be Leodis. He just seems to be invloved with the game.

  10. FA will affect who we draft #1

    Who are the FA DE's out there in 2009 offseason?

    We also are desperate for a OLB and a C.

    We should be able to address at least 2 key positions in the offseason via FA

    I'd love to see them sign a center and draft a center, just for good measure. It seems like in the past few years the FO has not been drafting decent backup linemen in the mid-to-late rounds. They took Butler and now he starts, but I think they could use a little depth to suplant Whittle/Preston/Fowler as the center/backup guards. I wouldn't mind seeing Preston come back next year, but I definitely want to see two new faces there.

  11. This is why Obama will win the election. Some people just don't get it.

    Come on man, don't lump this crazy bastard in with us Democrats. It is widely known that all Democrats support Marshawn Lynch. This man has no home.

    And since you brought up politics - I just want to tell everyone to buy stock because when the Democrats win today, the Dow is going to jump like crazy tomorrow.

  12. We're in great shape but we aren't even at mid season. Lot's can go wrong ... some things we can control, some we can't.

    Here are my concerns roughly in order:

    1. Trent Edwards goes down to injury: Anyone that saw one-dimensional Losman against Cards vs game manager Edwards against Bolts, knows what I mean. If this happens we're toast;

    2. Continued injuries in the secondary: We have little depth there and it will become a major weakness. Our #1 pick may not be ready for prime time this year;

    3. Complacency: We're not that much better than anyone else in the league. We got whipped by Cards and all our victories but one have been close;

    4. Loss to Jets 2 weeks from now: Forget about Favre, the real story there is an improving Jets defense;

    5. Pats aren't as bad as everyone here thinks: I agree last night was mostly about a terrible Broncos team, but still ....

    6. Distracted by Toronto talk: now that we're good, I hope the game against Miami in Toronto doesn't distract the players about team's status;

    7. Jim Hardy isn't a factor this year: without Hardy our WR team is essentially what it was last year: a bunch of smurfs. We need Hardy to get us over the hump and win some games with size advantage to thwart opposing defenses good game plans (e.g. winning TD catch against Jags.)

    8. The Ralph: that place is falling apart and will put more pressure on moving the team as building a new stadium is unaffordable;

    9. More Injuries to linebackers: see #2 above;

    10. Tennessee's Schedule: it's one of the weakest in the league and if face them in the playoffs I'd much rather have it be here than the site of "Music City Miracle."

    1. Agreed.

    2. No depth in the secondary!? Didn't we just beat the Chargers with our backup FS, backup SS, and 4th string CCB playing significant roles? 2 of our top 3 CBs were out and we still beat them.

    3. Agreed.

    4. No - it's at home and we will pull out some tricks over the next three weeks to ensure our division rivals cannot game plan effectively for us.

    5. Agreed, but not sure who says they're bad.

    6. Players don't care about moving to TO or the specualtion.

    7. WR are fine - we needed an offensive coordinator upgrade before anything else.

    8. The Ralph is fine and no stadiums are going to be built in this economic climate. TO real estate costs too much to build a new stadium and Rogers Center isn't big enough.

    9. Agreed.

    10. Agreed.

  13. I also have no point, but the Bills should give Marv a title, an office, and a scooter to roam the sidelines. He needs to be a part of all this, and we need to see him at every game. He is, after all, largely responsible for what we're seeing this season...

    GO BILLSSS!!!!

    19 and 0 baby!!!!! :wallbash:

    That sounds like Al Davis

  14. Moorman!

    I think Moorman is great and I used to think he was the best punter in the AFC until we played the Raiders. I can definitely see why their guy makes the pro bowl over Moormen - he is amazing. Especially when you consider how much of a joke the Raiders are inside and out, top to bottom.

  15. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=22755

    Here's the gem:

    Dougie Fresh (DC): The Bills appear to be graded across the board as the best special teams in the league, a much better D with young studs, and an O with exceptional skill players, that only needed the QB to step it up. Given the progress that Edwards has made, do the Bills have pieces in place to make a realistic championship run this year? Love you great work...keep it coming...

    Chris Mortensen: (11:21 AM ET ) I think the Bills have a good shot at the playoffs but I know their coaching staff is concerned about some things, especially on defense. But they have a lot of good things going for them with 12 games left to play.

    Um, what? This obviously was made-up. The coaches may well have concerns, but not on that side of the ball.

    Btw, there's also this:

    Coach Tuesday :thumbsup:): Mort, come on - Al calls you a "professional liar," you must have something to say about that? Here's your chance, Fan Nation is listening.

    Chris Mortensen: (11:05 AM ET ) Actually, after we listened to the presser, we're pretty sure he just confused his grammar and was still talking about Kiffin...regardless, why would anyone truly believe a man who has had five coaches in six years, eight in the last 15, has tried to not honor contracts from a few of those coaches and even his former MVP QB, Rich Gannon, has ripped him publicly in recent weeks.

    Not to defend the guy, cause he is a bad sports writer/columist/personality/person, but he might be on to something. Let's not worry about whether he actually has any inside info on the Bills, but instead about his comment. I think it's logical to assume that in the game against the Cardinals this week, the teams biggest worrry has to be its defense considering that Arizona can play offense and has some players (kinda like the Rams), but their defense is terrible. While they might not be the unmitigated mess tha the Rams are, they give up chunks of yardage and points pretty good (see Jets game). I would think that without Big T McGee they would be worried about covering their wideouts. It would be understandable if they had reservations about Leodis lining up across from Fitzgerald in thye nickle package, on the outside on 3rd and long.

  16. I'll try to keep this shorter. Yes

    But they aren't the first team to do this and playing lesser teams may have helped develop confidence in making the big play at crucial times. Most every team has quality players but some teams just seem to know how to make the winning play/play while others, with equal in ability players, always come up short.

    Regardless, the play-calling has been way above average and as long as we are developing our young QB of the future, we might as well be winning at the same time.

    sh-- man, the future is now.

  17. That would require a colossally stupid Greer and agent.

    He will make far more money in UFA, where dollars flow like cheap beer at a Polish wedding, than what the Bills would offer him (what with our new surfeit of CBs). The only thing Greer would get by re-signing mid-year would be a relatively small cushion in the chance that he gets seriously hurt. In an era where Dre Bly (whose fundamental corner skills were iffy, but managed to have a monster INT year) several years ago got double-digit millions, you don't even consider it a gamble --- you test the market.

    Greer played solid last year, and if he keeps up this level of play, well, good for him. It's win-win, at least this year. The Bills will get great production from a hungry player that could be a difference-maker come playoff-time, and he'll get a fat contract from someone next year. This won't be the Bills unless something drastic happens injury-wise, and probably not even then. We'll all wish him luck except when he's playing against us.

    The FO drafted this year similarly to previous years; draft a year ahead to replace guys who you figure will be gone.

    You say that now, wait until he signs with the Patriots* in the offseason.

  18. It's easy to overlook Reed's contributions when the team is losing close games; he has been doing these things for several years now and it's nice to see him receive the overdue accolades.

    I think Reed got a lot of undeserved blame when we were losing. Fans wanted him to be a number one WR (or at least a possession-type 2 guy) right away in year 2 (after Peerless left). He wasn't and people gave up on him and even ridiculed Marv when he re-signed him.

    This is the real question that I've wanted to ask for the past couple of weeks: Has Josh Reed lived up to his second round pick status with the Bills? Or do people still view him as a bust?

    I personally am of the opinion that it doesn't really matter where you take a guy, as long as he can contribute to the team for more than one contract, he is OK with me. Reed to me was a bit of an enigma in that you could see the talent, but he seemed to have concentration problems; thus not really contributing consistently, but did contribute.

    So what do you think - bust or no bust?
