  1. On the surface, I think we would all agree that he is a stud inside. He is a playmaker, and always seems to be around the ball...

However, isn't the main job of a 3-4 Nose Tackle to keep bodies off of the MLB's? While watching games, I am consistently seeing Williams being pushed to one side, usually the off play side which opens a huge hole in the center of the defense and allows a guard to get to the "second level". This is exactly what he is supposed to be preventing.

Poz sucks, no doubt. But I am not so sure that Williams is as perfect as some of us like to think.

  2. Someone made an argument at one point to the idea that Old White Men are the only people to get rich off of professional sports.

If you put some thought into it, it actually makes sense. Say you're a Billionaire team owner and you give 50 million to a kid straight out of college who most likely has never had to pass a finance/economics class in his schooling career. Now, the guy has tons of money and is spending it at night clubs (loans own by big banks run by "Old White Men") and eventually invest in a huge house (with a mortgage owned by big banks run by "Old White Men") and marry a woman who eventually files for divorce (the attorney is typically an "Old White Man").

Interesting idea, that is probably unfortunately true.

My advice? Make Pro Atheletes complete a financial planning course prior to playing in their first game.

  3. Since this thread was started, I'll throw in my 2 cents on what I would do if I was a GM.

1.) Sign Fitz to a contract that extends him through the 2013 season (make it front end loaded)

2.) Free Agency - Sign a stud Right Tackle

3.) Free Agency - Sign either a Stud Strong or Free Safety (a game changer in pass coverage)

4.) Trade Lee Evans for a 4th Round Draft Pick (if you can't get a 3rd)

5.) Draft - Round 1 - Left Tackle (future of franchise)

    6.) Draft - Round 2 - Best QB Available

7.) Draft - Round 3-7 - Draft best DE, OLB, MLB available (starting with DE)

8.) Give Maybin another year to prove his worth, if he comes to camp and sucks, outright cut him.

9.) Start Fitz in 2011 with the Rookie 3rd string.

Hopefully we are fighting to be .500 in 2011.

10.) Once eliminated from the playoffs, start your Rookie QB with no pressure to see what potential he has.

11.) Open QB competition in 2012 Training Camp, loser is 2nd string

In 2012 we're in the hunt for the playoffs.

  4. I noticed in last weeks game (as in all previous games), we did not utilize a TE as a blocker even though our OL was getting killed with backups playing due to injuries.

I realize that this is a spread offense, but what good is a spread offense if the QB is on his back or throwing the ball away to avoid a sack 2 seconds after the snap. Seems to me, we should have made an adjustment at half time to dedicate a TE as a run/pass blocker the remainder of the game. One less WR on the field, but perhaps it would have given Fitz enough time to complete a pass down field.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

  5. I have been hard on Lee Evans in the past. He is a only a fly-route runner in my eyes, however I am going to take what Steve Johnson says to heart. Perhaps SJ is getting so open because coverage is being rolled over to Lee on almost every play. If Lee is drawing double-teams on a consistent basis, then I think he is doing all that can be asked for him. What will be interesting is to see how the Steelers prepare for this game. Do they now focus on Johnson leaving Lee matched up 1 on 1? And if so, does Lee begin to become "relevant" in the offense again? Time will tell, but for now, I am apt to give Lee the benefit of the doubt because we are putting points up.

  6. I need to vent for a minute. I am tired of seeing these threads calling out our DB's and Safety's (except for Whitner, with those I agree whole-heartedly).

The fact is, without a pass rush, no DB's in the league can hang with a receiver for 5-8 seconds! I guarantee with an acquisition or two to bolster if not create a pass rush, our DB's will look great again!

At this point in time, the biggest needs on this team is a stud pass rushing WLB and stud LOT (move Bell over to RT after Rookie is ready).

    Thank you...

  7. Hang on here... That list doesn't show which round those players were drafted in. What if most were drafted in the 7th round? Getting drafted in the 1st round vs the 7th round would make a big difference in how successful that list is.

Nevermind, I'm an idiot... didn't notice the round numbers.

  8. I'm tired of seeing players from the Bills smiling to and patting opposing players on the ass during the game.

From the opening kick off to the final whistle, this should be a battle... a war. Not a reunion. After the game, if you want to run over and say hello to a "buddy" of yours, so be it. But during the game, when you are down by 30 points, I hate seeing 2 guys on opposing sides playing grab ass with each other. In fact, I'm tired of seeing players helping each other up off of the field.

When did the Sunday's turn into a time to catch up with friends?

It sickens me and makes me think that the players really just look at this as a job, and not as a battle like the fans do.

  9. I would rather go 0-16 than win a Superbowl under those circumstances.

Once you get caught cheating, you're illegitimate. It might not seem like much in the rush of the present, but think in terms of history. Do you honestly want the first Superbowl the Bills ever won to be tainted forever? You can think of football in a lot of different ways, but with the ever increasing emphasis on the NFL as a family oriented game (as evidenced by the increasingly stringent tailgating restrictions), you can't help but think about its impact on the next generation.

Do you want to implicitly tell your kids that it's okay to cheat to get ahead, because their favorite team did it and was successful in doing so? What the Patriots did is so much worse than steroid use. Steroids are most often used by an individual to perform at higher level than they could normally achieve, one way or the other. The Pats, however, did something that violated the rules on an organizational level. It was a conscious effort by at least a few powerful people in the Pats coaching staff/front office to do something they knew violated the rules.

Or maybe you don't care about winning with honor, dignity, or class. I'm not saying the guys all have to be saints (although I wish they played like they were Saints...), but win the right way. If Buffalo ever won that way, it would break my heart. I'd have to give up rooting for my team.

Hopefully you're trolling. If not though, I'm stunned.

This is why I could never support Michael Vick as our QB. Every win he had would be tainted for me personally (dog lover). I would feel the same way if I were a Ravens fan (Lewis).

  10. Perhaps I believe that football is a simple game, coached by over-complex people...

But where were the 6 yard quick slants when 10 defenders were stacking the line?

Why don't we have a Stupar and Nelson (both tall) running 6 yard quick slant patterns on almost every play for when the blitz comes?

I just don't get it... football is simple, if a guy blitzes, that means there is a guy uncovered. Throw that the side the blitz is coming from.
