ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo Bills have called a 2:30 p.m. news conference Thursday to announce the appointment of a new general manager.

Sources tell News 4 Sports that Buddy Nix will be named the team's new general manager.

Nix has served as the Bills national scout for the past season. He rejoined the Bills this past January, after spending several years as a football personnel executive with the San Diego Chargers.

Sources tell News 4 sports, the Bills interviewed two other in-house candidates for the job, Tom Modrak and John Guy, and settled on Nix as the GM.

The announcement is expected to be made official at 2:30.

  2. With Nelson out how many touches does Stupar get today? I hope he has a solid day and shows the front office they should have kept him in the first place. Good news also in the secondary because we are gonna need all the help back there today we can get.

  3. With McFumbles and McGee banged and Roscoe doing the returning today it raises some questions for me. With the rumors that Roscoe is back on the trade block is his returning an audition for possible trade partners. Also I have wondered since most Bills fans want Stevie Johnson to touch the ball more could he return kicks?

  4. Sources: Bills Shopping Simpson

Sources close to the National Football Post have informed us that the Buffalo Bills are looking to trade free safety Ko Simpson before this weekend’s draft in New York. The former fourth round draft choice has complied 143 tackles and 2 interceptions in three NFL seasons.

The Bills have been active in the past week. On Friday, Buffalo traded away Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters to Philadelphia in return for multiple draft picks and are reportedly shopping wide receiver Roscoe Parrish and defensive end Chris Kelsay as well.

We are also hearing that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to trade tight end Alex Smith before Saturday.

  5. Ocho Cinco could be traded by the draft

Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports reports a year after turning down a trade that could have netted two first-round picks for the receiver then known as Chad Johnson, Bengals owner Mike Brown could be laying the groundwork to trade Ochocinco for much less this year.

The Bengals have reportedly had highly regarded Missouri wide receiver Jeremy Maclin in for a workout recently. That said, two sources who have spoken to Brown said he would be willing to deal Ochocinco – and two others said he won’t.

What could turn the tide toward a trade is that while Ochocinco has been much quieter than last offseason, he still wants out. Ochocinco hasn’t shown up for offseason workouts. That follows his decision to not have surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, something the Bengals wanted him to do. Throw in the fact that at least two people who know Ochocinco have told the team that his competitive spirit to play for the Bengals has basically burned out, and you get the picture.

One source even said, quarterback Carson Palmer said in March that a deal for Ochocinco could be coming before the draft.

  6. With Jason Peters once again not agreeing to a contract we simply deal him for a first and some other picks. Then you pull the plug for Cutler and give the Broncos Edwards and they'll probably want a first or second so give them that. If we lose a second for cutler then we would have our 11th pick and one from whoever's we would get for Peters. We then could try to package a deal and move up and get a solid LT in the draft. Or if we give a first for Cutler then we would have the one we recieved in the deal for Peters. So all in all we would either really still have our picks or possibly more, and we would get rid of the headache in Peters.

  7. With the Lions still in search of CB, Jabari Greer's phone may be ringing at 12:01 with the Lions Front Office on the other side. Jabari Greer would be the perfect fit the Lions and they wouldn't have to give up anything to get him, meaning any draft picks. If the Bills were smart about it they should have reached some agreement and then shipped him off and gotten something out of it. But tomorrow don't be surprised if yuou hear Jabari making a visit to Detroit.
