  1. Didn't he have issues. The Bills passed on him. Their nuts

Ngata didn't have issues, the Bills had issues they didn't think a huge DT was a good fit for the Tampa 2 even though Ngata was very quick for a 6, 4 1/2 in 340+lbs DT- and the Bills thought that safety was the key position for running the Tampa 2.

What I never understood was one of the stated reasons to go to the Tampa 2 was it allowed teams to play good defense without huge athletic DTs and shut down corners - but we had big athletic DTs Williams, Adams, and could have drafted Ngata we also had some pretty good corners- just one of many Bills mysteries which include having two QBs who main asset was the deep ball and trying to convert them to dink and dunk players- now they have a QB who dinks and dunks and they pay a long ball WR big money- the Bills would have converted Babe Ruth into a bunter base stealer.

  2. I think we all understand that this is preseason and its only one game. It doesn't automatically mean a lousy season. But the inescapable truth is that to the limited extent that game was a window on the regular season, there is plenty to worry about. Getting schooled in preseason is abviously better than in the regular season but better still is not getting schooled at all. Certainly, getting schooled now is no guarantee they won't get whupped just as bad later so I don't see how on earth anyone can consider last night's miserable performance a good thing.

They sucked last night, face it, deal with it.

And Bell at LT would be a disaster. The best way for him to learn is in practice and in the preseason, not in a game where we would like our QB to make it to half time. You are right, Levitre isn't ready but putting another guy who is also not ready won't remedy that problem, just make it worse because you can hide a crappy guard easier than you can a crappy LT.

Disagree, Bell has improved every outing I've seen him and he is better at LT than at RT, probably because at the moment he's better against speed and quickness than power.

  3. I sorry but cutting Schobel is completely stupid. He is coming back from a serious injury and it will take time. But for a team lacking a pass rush, cutting your best pass rusher and #2 guy in sacks since 2000 is borderline retarded. If he doesn't produce this season, then we'll talk. But not because he hasn't been productive in preseason.

I'm glad you are sorry- you should be

Before his foot injury in 5 games Schobel had 1 sack so he was on pace for a 3.2 sack season before the injury.

the season before he had 6.5 sacks which is pretty ho-hum

He is undersized and has loss a step and for every hustle play he makes there are three plays where he is absolutely dominated- if he had come a season where he had double digit sacks then preseason means nothing but he has come off two pretty bad seasons and football players don't age like fine wine.

  4. D. Bell got some playing time at LT with the starters and more than held his own. Perhaps the coaching staff wants to see if he is ready to move up sooner rather than later. It would of course jumble the OL once again, but if Bell can continue to hold his own against the other team's starters, my OL would look like this:

    LT: D. Bell

    LG: Andy Levitre

    C: Eric Wood

    RG: Brad Butler

    RT: Langston Walker

Hangartner reprises his Carolina Panther role as first man off of the bench at G, C

I think that would be a much better Oline.

  5. I always been in the camp that Kelsey isn't as terrible as he is made out to be (which he isn't) and has a role on this team. However after seeing Copeland Bryan play, I think it's time to cut CK too. There is no difference between Denney and CK (Denney is cheaper and may eve nbe better). Additionally, it would serve as a big wake up call.

Add Schobel to the cut list and I agree- Denney plays just as well for less and plays special teams and in an emergency will play DT

Bryan, Ellis, Maybin, Mace, Denney may very well suck but at least they will suck for less money- If Schobel and Kelsay make this team then I never want to hear DJ talk about competition for positions ever again because it's a lie.

  6. We have a ton of position battles with guys that are pretty much even when it comes to talent. I looked at what we might keep and here is what I was thinking, I want everyone elses input as well.

QB - 3 Edwards, Fitz, Hamdan

    FB - 1 McIntyre

RB- 4 Lynch, Jackson, Rhodes, Omon - we cant afford to only keep 3 with Lynch's suspension in my mind

WR- 7 or 8 - this is a tough spot for us, We obviously have Owens, Evans, Reed, Parish, Hardy, Johnson, I think we need to atleast keep Huggins, or Jenkins for Specials if not both of them

OL- 8? - we have the starting 5 and then Bell, Chambers and McKinney? What does anyone else think, do we keep 9?

TE - 3 or 4 - as stated in another thread its a tough choice on who to cut and how many we keep

DE - 4 or 5 - Maybin, Schobel, Denney, Kelsay, Ellis or Bryan? I don't see DJ and staff cutting Schobel, Denney or Kelsay even if all 3 are at best average, I think we may have to keep 5 based on the fact Maybin isn't close to ready to step in and be an every down player if needed

DL- 4 - Stroud, Johnson, Williams, McCargo

Lb's - 6 or 7 - Poz, Mitchell, Ellison, Harris.... Buggs, Corto and Bowen fighting for 2 spots?

DB's - 9 - McKelvin, McGee, Simpson, Whitner, Florence, Lankster, Byrd, Corner, Wilson, (Do we keep Wendling for specs? What about Sargent?) maybe we keep 11 DB's?

Then of course we have LS, Kicker and Punter which is 3 more spots... these #'s take us to 56 to 59... so do we only keep 3 TE's 4 RB's cut Steve Johnson and keep 6 receivers? Do we only keep 2 QB's this year because of all the other needs this team has? Also what do we do with DE, I think 5 is too many to carry but who is the odd man out?

QB - 3 Edwards, Fitz, Hamdan

FB- none - Schouman is suppose to be versatile if he can't play as an H-back he should be cut

RB- 3 Jackson, Omon , Rhodes when Lynch comes back Rhodes is cut

WR- 6 Evans, TO, Reed, Parrish, Johnson, Hardy- Nelson can fill in at WR in case of emergency

TE - 4 Schouman, Fine, Stupar, Nelson

OL- 9 Walker, Levitra, Hangartner, Wood, Butler, Bell, Chambers, Mckinney, and Chris Denman or Jonathan Scott

DL- 9 Mace plays both DE and DT

DE- Schobel, Ellis, Maybin, Bryan, Mace- Money to performance Kelsay is impossible to keep- Denney goes into FA next year- I doubt Schobel will be back to form but you got to hope

DT- Stoud, Williams, Jones, Johnson, Mace- McCargo can't seem to keep healthy

LB- 7 Poz, Mitchell, Ellison, Harris, Corto, Bowen, Buggs- Corto beats out Wendling for specials

DB-9 McKelvin, McGee, Youboty,Corner, Lankster Whitner, Scott, Bryd, Wilson

    K, P, LS

That IMHO should be the Bills 53

  7. O-line has to be a question mark for now, especially depth.

Pass rush has been a problem no doubt about it, but before Schobel hurt his foot he also led the National Football League in tackles by all Defensive lineman. TE's concussion is a big reason Buffalo struggled in the 2nd half of the season last year, but losing Aaron Schobel was just as big in my opinion.

Now with the addition of Aaron Maybin whom I'm delighted to have with us now, I'm expecting a much better pass rush and big, big play from our defense as a whole.

Lots of sacks, interceptions and forced fumbles, Yup, I like our Defense allot. This is a good football team we are putting on the field this season. :P

    I billieve...

before the foot injury Schobel was on pace for 61 tackles and 3.2 sacks - Denney had 58 tackles and 4 sacks, my mistake we have two studs

  8. Before Schobel hurt his foot he had 1 sack in five games a pace of 3.2 sack season, the year before he had a mediocre 6.5 sacks - now coming off injury and another year older exactly what do you expect from Schobel- his pass rush is talent is very diminished, he has always be a liability when rushed at, about all that's left is the occasional play chasing from the backside.

Kyle Williams is ok which is better than sucks but not as good as one would like- the only problem I'd have picking up Henderson is what does the guy got left? I saw him play last year and thought he was way slower than I remember- maybe just a bad game and the guy is still huge but I wouldn't give up too much for him.

  10. Billy Bob is a wee bit testy, eh?

I'm at work so I can't check out your link, but rest assured I will when I return to my humble abode. Then we can embark in a witty back-and-forth debate over the merits and pitfalls of #94.

And for the record, I didn't think you asked a question.

Sorry- I thought the question was implied (what do you think about what you saw on the video) - as for being testy yes and not a we bit but a huge boulder size bit.

  11. go to Aaron Schobel's profile at nfl.com and check out "soundtracks-Aaron Schobel" and you can find out what Aaron Schobel thinks about Aaron Schobel

lets see my intention was for people to take the 30 seconds to check out what I was talking about before commenting but once again I'm thwarted.

I'd like to know what Aaron Schobel thinks about Michael Vick.

not the question thanks for trying to hijack the thread.

Id like to know why he runs circles to get to the QB.

good question but you still didn't check out what I asked you to so why comment.

    The guy is a joke.

interesting statement but same as above

He gets there more than anyone else on this roster, so I don't think we should be picking nits about how.

Schobel was on pace for 3.5 sack season before the foot injury didn't Denney have 4 and again to lazy too take the 30 seconds to watch the video.

  12. would have tried like hell to trade down - if I had to stay there I would have taken Oher but to be fair to the Bills there were significant question marks about almost every player in this draft- Oher learning ability, Orakpo maxed-out frame, Pettigrew ability to stretch the field, Ayers explosiveness,- I didn't like the Maybin pick but I understood it - it's the Bryd pick that frustrates me there was a lot of talent left at DL, (E. Brown, C Barwin, C Sintim, M Johnson, J Gilbert and L Sidbury) and OL ( Unger, Loadholt, Beatty) so for me Bryd had better be all that and a bag of chips.
