    1/21/24 Division Playoff GAMEDAY Bills vs Chiefs Pregame Thread

    THIS IS WHAT WE’VE WANTED! Playing at Home vs KC in the Playoffs!

     

    Of course, at Home in January means both teams battle Old Man Winter as well as each other and today is no exception. At least they’re somewhat familiar with freezing temps -if not back to back ‘snowpocalpses’.. For all the uncertainty that was the Bills this season, we’re 8-1 at Home! The Bills extended their current winning streak to 6 games beating Pittsburgh handily last week while the defending Champions finished their season at 5-4 before beating the hapless fish last week at Home.

     

    Yet again though, we couldn’t escape injuries. Gabe Davis and Taylor Rapp still can’t play and now we’ve lost the services of CB Christian Benford and LB Babylon Spector, while P Sam Martin is Questionable. BUT, CB Rasul Douglas IS back and star LB Terrel Bernard and All Pro nickel Taron Johnson MAY return today.. 🤞

     

    No sooner did I dub Khalil Shakir WR2 when he made a jaw-dropping, unbelievable play that clinched the victory last week as well as 2 other meaningful catches throughout the game! We’ll need more of the same today as the Chiefs are a top Defense, 2nd in sacks and 2nd in total Defense overall. Chris Jones & Karlaftis have 21 sacks combined and Steve Spagnola has transformed the Secondary into an elite corps, though we can attack Watson. They now roll with QB spies -which may be to their detriment shadowing our QB.. But this a decidedly different Offense than the League is used to. As their recent record suggests, they are no longer rolling every team, barely scoring in the low 20’s pts/game. Yes, Mahomes is still brilliant and can will his team to victory, but his supporting cast is simply ordinary. Kelsey has ‘other interests’ (see Swifty in a box here today!), their receivers are middling and their OLine is susceptible to the rush. Plus their OT is the most penalized player in the League! But their RBs can take over a game. I expect our pass rush to keep Mahomes on his toes today and  so relieved Daquan Jones is back and playing great!

     

    Speaking of the Scarlet and Royal Blue, our Offense has come together since Joe Brady took over play calling. Knox is back and fully involved in 12 personnel groupings with the wunderkid Dalton Kincaid -who’s getting more impactful with each game. Knox’s TD catch last week moved him ahead of no less than Jerry Rice in career playoff TDs! 😳   Pro Bowl bound RB James Cook is COOKING and our OLine is playing exceptionally! Were it not for ST injuries and unexpectedly poor kicking by Tyler Bass, our Offense has hit its stride just in time for KC.

    Allen loves playing KC and dueling with Mahomes! These 2 surefire HOFers are at their very best when they face each other and the whole football world loves it even more! Simply put, these 2 guys turn chaos into an art form! Just when you think you’ve seen everything from Josh, he takes off on a 52 yard scramble TD! in the Playoffs! He was error free last week, bringing him to a perfect 18-0 when he doesn’t turn the ball over. He personally whooped the Steelers with 70% completions, 3 pass TDs plus his unconscious runs for another 74 yrds! NO ONE has ever seen the likes of him before! So  CHERISH IT! RELISH IT! LIVE IT! This is what he and all of us WANT!

    These are the Best of Times!

    The goal was and has been SB though. It was never about making the playoffs. Coming up short again is a failure… losing out in the divisional game again is just another blown opportunity(as yet another AFC team possibly emerges better than Buffalo in Houston).

    This year they did. It’s still officially one of the Bills uniforms, but teams aren’t allowed to wear their 3rd uni in the playoffs.

    I suspect, and I haven’t heard this anywhere, the Bills will showcase a new throwback uni next season and I think it will be the 90’s version with red helmets.

    If Haliee Steinfeld started going to Bills games to support Josh, I'd think that was pretty cool too 😉

    Obviously you don’t follow this much. Unlike Swifty & Kelce, Josh and Hailee are very close, they just choose to stay low key. She’s attended every game that her schedule allows. But you wouldn’t recognize her if you don’t know her well. She dresses like any other Mafia/fan and sits in the stands often. That’s just the way they want it.

    McAfee’s show has raised the bar for sports media. To me, it’s worth getting notifications every day from/about the show. Irreverent, humorous and insightful. 
    He seems more than a bit exasperated over the grief they’re taking from ‘the establishment’ -including their own bosses. I hope they can work through it and keep providing this level of journalism. Yes, part of it is they love the Bills -from BrandonB to Mitch.

    That man deserves a world of credit right now. 

    From keeping the team together and going from 5% chance at playoffs to the two-seed, to keeping this defense together with duct tape and baling wire, to holding the Steelers to 17 points despite being down to CBs 4, 5, and 6 and two backup linebackers. He made major changes to the way he was calling defense on the bye week, he had the courage to fire Dorsey mid-season. All in all, Coach McDermott just deserves a ton of credit. A ton!

    Bravo, coach. Way to go!
