  1. Owens helps more or less bridge the gap for Hardy or Johnson to develope. Hopefully one or both of those guys gets some playing time this year and starts to turn into a legit number 2. If this happens, then the Bills shake Owens' hand and say thank you for your services. They give him high recommendation to the rest of the league. But say we have two good young recievers, and Evans and Josh Reed. Plus hopefully Nelson has shown something by that time too. So Owens is a nice guy to have this year to keep the pressure off some of that young talent and help Edwards gain some confidence, and get Evans open more.

    great points.

    Next Year

Evans in his prime, Josh Reed as a three.

Between Hardy, Johnson, Nelson, and Fine they're hoping for one stud. If they can get one with another emerging as a decent target- they'll be fine.

  2. It has nothing to do with what anyone wanted. It has everything to do with our current players and their capabilities. For years, Tampa Bay has had four or five QBs. But you could just as easily say they have no QBs. What is the famous saying, "If you have two quarterbacks, you don't have any." Same with LT.

I think the saying your lookin for is "schitt in one hand, wish in the other. See which one fills up first." 7-9 three years with Peters(yes he is elite). Its a gamble, only time will tell.

  3. The point is, they are throwing a lot of eggs in Bell's basket. If they draft a tackle instead of a DB (of which we already have starters in place), then you have more depth/competition/probability of getting the right guy.

As for the staff being high on him, that means nothing. They've published articles on Bills.com on how they were high on Whittle too...

Walker, Chambers, Bell, and now Butler are competing for two tackle spots. May the best two win. This team has assembled quality o-line competition across the board. Because it didn't go the way you and some others envisioned dosen't mean it can't replace Dockery and Peters (11.5 version).

  4. This horse has been beat, but I'm going to take another whack:

What the heck were the Bills thinking?...3 good tackles went off the board AFTER the Bill's 2nd 2nd-round pick. Loadholt, Beatty, and Vollmer.....and don't tell me Demetrius Bell is the answer...because that joke will get old when TE gets hurt coming out the gate against the Patriots.

Every year, I tell myself the Bill's front office might know something I don't (or the draftniks for that matter), but every year its the same 'ol same 'ol. Examples where I've been left shaking my head in the past, but gave the Bills the benefit of the doubt are: John McCargo, JP Losman, and an injured Willis McGahee. Jarius Byrd would've been there later, and is a DB for that matter...

These DBs aren't going to giv TE any more time and definitely aren't going to make our total lack of pass rush any better. It would be nice to see a draft that doesn't look like the Bills are trying to outthink everybody, but rather simply looks solid on paper.

How is it a fact any of these guys will be better than Bell? Based on a week of senior bowl practices both Wood and Levitre are now guards. Bell has practiced with NFL players for a year. His knock outta college was size and experience. Now he has a year under his belt in this offense(also trainers and strength people). Plus the staff seems high on him. As a prospect who would you want- Bell or some 2nd rounder from UCONN?

  5. Ayers - Looks like a solid DE prospect. The lack of college stats scares me though? What gives? Is he one of those guys that only plays when he knows it's now or never? Did he just mature late as a player and person? Every single one of these DE prospects has a big 'ol question mark on their backs.

Like the fact he had 16 TFL. Some guys tackle. Some guys hit. he does both.

  6. Guessing about the draft

-the value for D front 7 is strong. This team needs an impact player (or two) on the front 7. They also need a very solid o-lineman. Last they need an impact TE. The chances of quality defensive front-seven being around picks 28-42 is good.

-The trade of Peters makes no sense if you draft a OT at 11. You have to believe they are not bluffing when they spew all the praise for Bell,Cpt. Kirk and Lang.

-The debate has raged over DE,LB and OL talent. Who is better and where people will get drafted. Ayers could go top 10 or mid 20's. Pettigrew is heads and shoulders above any other TE prospect. If they are in love with him (They are) he will go at 11.

-They can snag someone like Larry English at 28. Then go G/C or LB at 42.

My preference would be to add a vet to fill one hole on offense. Then draft DE at 11 and LB at 28. O rd 2

  7. I watch a lot of SEC football and have to agree that his rise up the draft boards in surprising to me. I would consider him a solid, rotational DE. I'd expect to see him in the lower part of RD1, not top 10.

I also watch a lot of college football in general and think that there isn't a single DE in this draft worth taking in the top 10. Same with the QB's. Everyone is taking the best of a bad group and expecting them to be first class NFL players. Just doesn't work that way.

    Guess we'll see.

Would Love Ayers or English at 28. The boyz are going Brandon Pettingzoo at 11. DE at 28. Mark it dawn ya'll!!!!!!!!

  8. He was my number one. Now I prefer Robby Ayers. This guy reminds me of Demarcus Ware. He destroys double teams, best DE against the run, and is BIG. This DL has smaller, fast, high-motor types. It needs another anchor to go with stroud.

I would love to see Ayers at 11, Pettigrew at 28(or trade up a bit), interior OL in rd 2. OLB Freeman in rd 3

  9. Strange how you keep feeling the need to attack Graham, but whatever floats your boat, I guess.

And FWIW, my clips from here DID help me get my first newspaper job ... so yeah, cheers to SDS for that!

I don't mind Tim- just the "mods" that play parent on here. I find it funny how everyone kisses his arse and he in turn uses this info for research.

    Congrats on the day job.

  10. Strange that ESPN hasn't offered any of them a job, then. Hey, I'll be seeing Chris LaPlaca on Tuesday. Want me to put in a good word for you?

Strange how you keep mentioning your status with the "in" club...Perhaps you consider this assylum to be your own little audition. Go for it! I'm sure when Timmy decides to throw a bone you'll eat first!
