On first down I still don't understand why the Defense didn't hold Hill and Kelce right off the line. Sure we'd get the 5 yard Defensive holding call but it would've been a play that killed 5 seconds. That leaves them 1 play to get into FG range.

Thumbs up to Poyer for not really throwing anyone under the bus.

Because there has been a rule preventing that since 2017. It is 12.3.3 in the NFL rulebook. It reads:

ARTICLE 3. INTENTIONAL FOULS TO MANIPULATE GAME CLOCK

A team may not commit multiple fouls during the same down in an attempt to manipulate the game clock.

Penalty: For multiple fouls to run off time from the game clock: Loss of 15 yards, and the game clock will be reset to where it was at the snap. After the penalty is enforced, the game clock will start on the next snap.

What are your thoughts on trading up for a WR in this draft?

2024 is supposed to be loaded.

    Like in 2014.

2014 Bills trade #9 (2014) and 2015 1st and 4th to move up to #4 to take Sammy Watkins.

    2014 remaining class

    #7 - Mike Evans

    #12 - OBJ

    #20 - Brandin Cooks

    #28 - Kelvin Benjamin

    #39 - Marquise Lee

    #42 - Jordan Matthews

    #45 - Paul Richardson

    #53 - Davante Adams

    #56 - Cody Latimore

    #61 - Allen Robinson

    #63 - Jarvis Landry

    Stacked 2 rounds there.

I think 2024 will yield similar results.

Value throughout the 2nd, even if we don't hit round 1.

I could use that same list to make my argument, which is that there will be busts in this years “stacked” WR class.  That’s a list of 12 players, of which only three turned out to be #1 WRs. And the best one was picked at 53.

NFL puts touchbacks on the 30. XFL put it on the 40 as an illegal kick penalty.

Almost every NFL rule change came from either college or a rival league.

Kicks that are kicked into the end zone are put at the 35. Ones that roll into the EZ are placed at the 20. Also, no more fiat catches on kickoffs. All the incentives are for teams to kick it to the returner and for him to return the kick.

  4. I always say that if a foreign person wanted to understand the American South, a listen to the Paul Finebaum show or Cats Call-In on KY Sports radio would do it. If you think the press were tough, wait until Cal has to field calls from Dale from Winchester on Tuesday.

At the pro days, do you know if the teams get to meet with the players?  Or is it just watch them work out?

They can take them to lunch and talk to them. The Bills did that with Bijon last year on the day of Texas' Pro Day.

I have a lot of confidence in Beane and McDermott in player selection.   They have a very good understanding of the kind of players they need at each position, and they do a good job at figuring out which available players fit.  (That's what's so shocking about Elam.)

I think they knew exactly what they were getting in Kincaid and how they were going to use him.  I think people who thought he would be below 500 yards misperceived how good McDermott and Beane are at this.  Receivers don't have huge trouble transitioning from college to the pros, so it was more or less a no-brainer that Kincaid would play a lot and catch a lot of balls.  That's what they got him for, and they knew he could do it.

As I said in the other thread, I think he needs to bulk up a bit.   Mostly what I think he needs to improve is his route running, particularly as plays break down.  I mean, he runs all those short routes pretty nicely, but he still has work to do connecting with Allen.  The guys who play close to the QB - the tight ends and slot guys - can become really valuable when they develop a high level of communication with the QB, like we see with Kelce and Mahomes, and like we saw with Allen and Beasley.  I think Kincaid has more to learn and will benefit from another year with Allen.  I also think he'll benefit if Brady is as creative as we hope.

There is an incorrect narrative on this board that “McDermott doesn’t play rookies,” all stemming from the Elam situation, that drives a lot of those takes.

What is funny is 4 of the 5 came when he was not starting and played less snaps. Once his snap count went up the sack numbers came down - only one once he started playing.

That probably had a lot to do with no longer being on the field with either Young or Sweat.

the owner is absentee in football decisions - so basically the opposite

I didn’t know that. Signing Carr reeked of “win now under any circumstances” and that usually comes from an owner. So, then the GM and coach have to go. A new regime will clean house and start over, like what Beane and McDermott did here. Fans will complain, but what do they know?

Saint $60M over the 2025 cap and signing Chase Young to a 1 year $13M deal is such a head scratcher.  They really need to just tank for a year, get a good rookie QB and start over.  This can kicking ideology isn’t working for them at all.

    Owner won’t let them.

If the Bills are getting him on the cheap .. then why aren’t the Colts re-signing him? What do they know?

The Colts drafted Nick Cross in 2022 who stepped in for Blackmon in the final two games and played very well.  They could afford to let Blackmon go. The injuries, of course, are also playing a role.
