  1. Now that there are no HC openings, do you think the Bills would at least hire him as OC?

So Brian Billick, who is known to have a massive ego, will take a coordinator position with a team that he publicly mocked two months ago and who never bothered to give him the benefit of an interview for the HC position?

  2. Just heard on the radio that Gailey was going to be Cowher's OC and assistant HC. That's the most encouraging thing I've heard all day about him.

Why is Cowher's opinion of who would make a good HC relevant? Cowher is a proven winner as a coach and as someone who knows how to hire quality assistants. That said, I'm not sure how that translates into an ability to pick someone who can be a successful head coach. I'm glad that he has faith in Gailey, but frankly I'm not sure how much that actually means.

  3. Anybody else heard that as a kid, Wilfork loved the Kelly era Bills teams? The reason I bring this up is because he could be available next season if the Patriots don't tag him first. Any takers?

If Wilfork becomes an UFA, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that his enjoyment of a team from almost 20 years ago isn't going to play much of a factor in his decision.

  4. hmmmmm.....if these guys were the problem, why are they getting snapped up by top echelon teams? Could it be that the entire coaching staff wasn't the problem and firing ALL of the coaches only assured that we would lose the good coaches with the bad? But then...maybe the Eagles, Giants and Steelers don't know as much about football as the Bills do and they will be at the bottom of the pack next year?

Why does this surprise anyone? The Bills have sucked for the last decade because of poor drafts, poor FA decisions (both in terms of players signed and let go), and three head coaches who weren't up to the task. Two of those three HCs have gone on to have success again as assistants, and the third may very well be a good DC in the league again. That said, none were head coaching material, and with a few exceptions (mostly at the OC position), we've had pretty good assistants and coordinators throughout the decade.

  5. I'm willing to give Nix the benefit of doubt here, and wait and see what happens these next two years. Ultimately they'll either turn it around, or it'll continue sucking. Personally, I liked our last draft - except the Maybin pick (he needs too much time to develop), and that was Nix's first year here. Another draft like last years in regards the lines, and we might have a good young O-line ready to play for four or five years together, and hopefully more. Nix made a positive impact last year, and I'm sure he looked the operations up and down and knows where it needs to improve to be competitive. I'm thinking I'll like the coach they hire and I'll be looking forward to the draft and F.A. By next year we'll know what to think of Nix and whoever he hires as coach.

I hope you are right. Nix has a great track record in terms of picking players, but the fact is that he has never run an organization. I'm not saying that he can't, but choosing players is not the same as hiring a coach, setting up an effective front office and scouting department, and making general personnel decisions. Maybe Nix will do a great job, and maybe he's already made some moves that nobody knows about, but at this point I can understand everyone's frustration.

  6. I don't agree.

As fans, we were led to believe major change was coming after the season and that they were going to bring in a "name" football guy to run the show. That didn't happen.

Now we have accepted that the same monkeys are running the show but maybe we can get a decent coach to give us hope. When a prospective coach is mentioned we talk ourselves into the guy, because that is what we have to do. When that guy doesn't even want the job, it is a tough pill to swallow.

I agree completely. After he fired Jauron, Wilson made the following statement:

"I tell you, we have a lot of work to do," Wilson said from his home in suburban Detroit. "We've got to revamp and take a look at the whole operation and that's what we're going to do."

I agree that people went back and forth on whether they wanted Schotty Jr., but the fact that he won't even interview tells me that we are headed down the road of Gregg Williams Part IV, Mike Mularkey Part III and Dick Jauron Part II. . .
