1. I would have really liked a chance to see Mcgahee running behind what should be our best offensive line in recent memory. At this point, our running back position, linebacker corps, and cornerback positions are in shambles, with most of the top tier free agents already gone. It's hard to see why this team should be better than last year's squad.

  2. I love the Bills as well, but if you are making life decisions based on the Bills you might want to re-evaluate some things.

I don't make my life decisions exclusively on the Bills; however they do factor in my future plans. The enjoyment of going to games is a reason to stay in Buffalo; it certainly isn't the only reason. But, as a lifelong fan, I will certainly do my part, small as it may be, to keep the team here. Too many fans just feel it is their right to sit on the couch on Sundays and watch the Bills play. Basically, the point is simple. If you like the team so much and want them around, buy a freakin ticket. If you can't go, buy it for your friends or loved ones. It is an embarassment that we are not selling out for Miami.

  3. the qb ratings goes on a week-by-week basis, at least i thought, and was supposed to pretty much be a 'who's hot' kind of list.

yeah, roeth has proven he can win in the playoffs.. but as for the biggest stage thing? he had the lowest qb rating EVER for a super bowl winning quarterback.  antwan randle-el had the only touchdown pass that game for the stillers.

    866585

Fair enough. I defintly think they stole that SuperBowl anyway. That game should really have been a black mark on the NFL for the quality of the officiating. However, since the media is in bed with NFL, they completely overlooked the shoddy officiating. It's gonna be interesting to see the hierarchy of that QB draft class. How do you think it will pan out? I think Rivers seems to have taken a lead in that regard, while Manning has dropped significantly. If Losman continues to quietly improve, he may climb to the top of that ladder.

  4. yeah, but the point is they're grading roethlisberger for his team's accomplishments last year.  he's sucked this year and is leading the league in interceptions.

    866565

Well, if the rating are for who is playing better this year, I'd go with Losman. However, we seem to be forgetting a long stretch where he was virtually useless.

But, if we're talking about who you would rather have as a starting QB, I'd have to say Roethlisberger. He has proven he can win in the playoffs and on the biggest stage. I guess time will tell, but I can't fault the rating system for not yet giving Losman the accolades we feel he deserves. Once he starts performing and winning at a high level consistently, I guarantee he'll start flying up those charts.

  5. I know there have been many posts complaining the fact that the game isn't sold out. I hope this topic isn't seen like that. I think we can all agree that the fact Bills-Miami isn't sold out is disturbing, if not embarassing. Even at 3-13 in 01, they sold out Buffalo-Miami. Rather, this post attempts to look at the big picture and why I feel it is almost our obligation to buy tickets.

One of the main reasons I choose to stay in the area is the Bills. In some cities, being a fan amounts to cheering for them when they are good and following them on a more remote basis when they are not. Attending games is an option and a luxury. In Buffalo, given the Bills vulnerable status according to the owner, attendance right now is more of an obligation and, in some cases may amount to a sacrifice. That is not to say that being a hardcore fan and going to the games is not rewarding; I have the time of my life on Sundays, and should the Bills ever win a SuperBowl, it would probably be the best day of my life. (My girlfriend wouldn't like to hear that, but its true.) It'll be even more rewarding to see the whole journey instead of just the final destination–ask any Boston Red Sox fan about that.

But, in this time of turmoil for the Bills, as evidenced by the owner's comments, it appear they need us. Rather, WE, as fans need us. The Bills will be fine if they go to LA or Charlotte; in fact, I'm sure there are some players on the team who would support that move. Now is the time when Bills fans, near and far, must make small sacrifices to attend games. In a year from now, this might be a moot point if they are winning again. But, for the time being, every seat that we don't purchase is further ammunition for Ralph to move the team, which it seems he is seriously considering. Don't give him that ammo. For yourself and fellow fans, buy a ticket and give the team one more reason to stay instead of go.

  6. You know my daughter has applied to UB Law, and I'm kind of pulling for her to go there.  That would be another good reason to get up there for a few good weekends.  I do some work with local universities up there and always look forward to visiting Buffalo and the Falls.  This summer we vacationed on Lake Erie, Chatauqua, Niagara Falls, and had a terrific time.  I can think of a lot worse places than my hometown.  Maybe someday I'll move back (at least during the non-winter months)

I'm actually currently going to UB Law and will be practicing at the District Attorney's office here next year. If she goes I'll give her some of my notes and study aids which could be helpful to her.

  7. It's called a bad day and taking it the wrong way.  Simple mistake.

    865546

It's called they'll never let it go, because some peope find it amusing to laugh at other mistakes.

That being said, it matters little that we are all getting behind JP; and while he may be good with kids, my primary interest is in how much respect he is getting in his own locker room. I'm always looking at how he interacts with his teammates, and have always noticed a lukewarm response to him. One example is when he threw the winning touchdown in Houston and Price ran right by him. Also, I noticed that when he missed Evans high on a simple slant pattern, right before the touchdown to Royal, Evans went off to the sideline shaking his head and saying something to another player. While I think JP is making strides, he needs to finish the season strong to assure him of the job next year and solidify the respect of his teammates.

  8. The humor on this board makes Michael Richards sounds as funny as Dane Cook. Jason Peters is pivotal to any success this team will have on Sunday, and in the future. I think he'll play, he's a gamer. To be cautionary, the Bills should keep McGahee or Shelton on Taylor to begin with. However, if Peters shows he is capable of handling Taylor one-on-one, we will carve up That Dolphin D.

  9. He has mentioned it, in that he's said he had never thought to much about it, but that he never planned on buying the Sabres either. If Ralph passes, the eyes of the city would turn upon him. He could carve out a legacy for himself in this region were he to purchase the Bills.

  10. Here is an idea, and I'm already anticipating all the clever and witty comments from the jaded cynics and ubercool cyberhacks that permeate this board...

As for the rest of you :bag:, what do you guys think about petitioning Chris Berman to make an issue about Wilson's comments in one of his upcoming Gameday editions? While he may be somewhat of a shill for the NFL's devoted wife, known as ESPN, (as opposed to its new mistress, the NFL Network) I do think he still has the kid in him that grew up rooting for the Bills as passionately as we do. I genuinely believe he still has a soft spot in him for the Bills and would be upset if they left. Further, I think he is not that far removed from being the voice of the NFL to be irrelevant. I'm hoping, although I could be wrong about this, that he has evolved from his jolly fun-loving Primetime self to tackle a more serious role; that of a senior statesman for the NFL and a voice of conscience.

Also, I could imagine TJ and co also sounding sympathetic for Wilson and the smaller markets. I heard Howard Simon and Jeremy White solicit James Brown to say he might run a piece. I'm thinking that if we wrote Chris Berman a long lengthy petition just asking for his help and explaining what the Bills mean to us, it might, just might make a difference. Probably not, but you never know. Who knows, it could even get on the air. What do you guys think? I do know that, whether or not we agree with Wilson's fight, he is far too old to do it himself. If a guy like Berman backed him, at least people outside the Buffalo market would take notice. What do you guys think?

  11. I see a young, exciting team with a good young core of players who does not quit.

And yet, as soon as I get start to get excited for the FUTURE, the team's OWNER tells me (for the 3rd or 4th time in the past YEAR) that the team cannot compete and is likely headed out of town

That sort of kills my enthusiasm. We're watching the Los Angeles Bills develop into a team that will be able to win once they get to southern California.

Ralph Wilson is his own worst enemy when it comes to marketing. Holding a gun to fans' heads and saying "accept our crappy product and buy tickets or we will move" just isn't cutgting it any more.

On top of that, this is an owner that lets his key players go, fails to bring in quality free agents, and seems to be resigned to losing.

Ralph is a stubborn old man. Sure, some of the points he makes are valid, especially concerning revenue disparities. But he has apparently decided that NFL football "cannot work" in Buffalo anymore, and rather than try to actually DO things to help his situation, he whines and cries and makes fans even more miserable on a yearly basis.

    **************************************************************

    For example:

New Stadium: It works everywhere else. However, it CANNOT work in Buffalo. So says Ralph. There is no saving us.

Sell the naming rights: What's a few million dollars? It wouldn't help, anyway. So says Ralph. there is no saving us.

Try actual marketing like the Sabres do: Not sure why they don't, but Ralph likely thinks that the market is already tapped out, which could NOT be further from the truth. This market is nowhere NEAR tapped in terms of potential revenues. (see Sabres)

Raise ticket prices (combined with a winning team): Fans will pay $$ for a winner. Again, the Sabres couldn't GIVE AWAY tickets last year, but now tickets are going for a couple hundred dollars on eBay. However, although fans can pay that $$ for 40 Sabres games, Ralph doesn't see how fans could pay 2/3 that for 8 Bills games. The $$ is there, the creativity and will to MARKET to get it is NOT there on the Bills part.

    ***************************************************

To me, Ralph seems unwilling to take the steps he needs to take in order to help the Bills situation. On top of that, he has apparently decided that there is no way that NFL football can work in Buffalo. Buffalo is doomed. etc, etc.

IMO, we need a new owner who is visionary enough to find a way to get it done, rather than sit around whining that nothing can be done.

There is almost ALWAYS a solution. Sure we might not match Washington and Dallas, but we can still do things a LOT better here.

But as long as this team tells its fans that there IS no future, why SHOULD we invest emotionally and money-wise?

THAT is why the games aren't selling out, in my opinion. So Losman might be a real QB, Evans could the real deal at WR, the defense has a lot of nice young players. the team FINALLY has real coaches.

    Good for LOS ANGELES.

    Why should we get excited?

    864413

You, like Ralph, make some valid points. But, aren't you also engaging in the same kind of negativity that he does too? Think about this: if Ralph were to move, would he not just be giving in to the Snyders and Jones's? Personally, I think he harbors too much bitterness against those guys to accept that course of action.

  12. These two weeks at the gate may mean something, with respect to Wilsons comments about moving. Four straight non sell-outs to end the season would certainly fuel some more of his not-so-subtle threats about moving the franchise. He could easily just throw his hands up at the end of the year and express his insincere frustration at the incompatible current economic states of the game and the region, harping on the four non sellouts as being proof that the Bills are no longer financially viable.

Also, it would be somewhat unsettling to not sell out the Miami game, especially given the teams resurgence the second half of the season. Two more non sellouts could have things moving a little faster than we expected. Of course, maybe thats what the NFL hoped for when they scheduled so many December home games in Western New York on what was thought to be a rebuilding team. While it could all just be posturing and ramblings, (and none of us really know one way or the other what his intentions or thoughts are), it sure wouldn't hurt to sell a few more seats these next couple weeks.

  13. While being at the game yesterday pretty much by myself, wearing my new Whitner throwback authentic,  I expected to catch some flack.  Instead I caught nothing but cordial fans, respectful fans, and people who were very knowlegeable of the game.  I received many compliments on my jersey, hadshakes for a game well played etc.

I feel that the example they set should be the same respect that opposing fans receive when they are visiting the Ralph.  Good game nonetheless, and I will give props to Buffalo Fans, because considering the playoffs were on the line for the Jets this game, there was absolutley no heartbeat from them.  very Very quiet stadium except for the Ralph.  Seems as if they wait for the Firehat jets guys to fire them up.  The energy for our sub 500 Bills at home is NOTICEABLY stronger than the Jets Fans were today.

    863070

Definitly. While the Ralph has been taking some heat for not filling up, the energy level has been impressive, and I'm hoping we could get it back to 1990 level at some point. However, I think this is the wrong week to start a be nice to the opposing team fans thread. Look at who's coming to town. While I won't physically attack or even swear at a Dolphins fan, I feel it is our duty to make their lives miserable. After all, we don't want them there; each Dolphin fan just takes a little something away from the 12th man and its effect on the game.

When it comes to opposing teams fans, I think balance is the key. Don't abuse them too much, but you still got to abuse them. And if there's ever a fight between a Bills fan and Dolphin fan, jump in and stomp that clown.

  14. About the only knock anyone can have on Jauron is his handling of challeneges. Even yesterday, I felt he should have challenged the Price reception on the sidelines, especially considering he still had the use of all his timeouts in the second quarter. On the replay, it looked like he got both feet down, and last weeks ridiculous rule wouldn't have applied. Overall, I would give Jauron an A- for his performance this year.

Most importantly, it appears that both units have really adapted well to the new schemes, which explains the teams improvement over the course of the year. This team looks like they may be set at coach, quarterback, and maybe both offensive tackle positions. Those along with cornerback are the most important positions in football. If they resign Clements, (which they have to do) the rest of the pieces shouldn't be too hard to fill in. While he won't get COTY this year, I have a feeling he could get one next season.

  15. 8-8 is good, but... Did somebody say PLAYOFFS???

Too bad Indy had to start their swan dive earlier than usual this year, or we would only be one game out. Still, I think there is a pretty good shot that one AFC team will sneak in at 9-7, and why not Buffalo?? Two home games against teams they are competing with for the wild card, and then an admittedly tough road game against a team that may be resting some guys if they are due to play the next week. I Billieve.

  16. The key play in this game was the Evans bomb on 3rd and 2 in the second. Both corner and safety played the inside route and opened themselves up for the double move by Evans, which is why he caught it at the Meadowlands while the rest of the D was somewhere on the Jersey turnpike. Jauron must have caught a key on the Jets tendency to try and jump the route on third and short. While Mularkeys keys often put us in position to lose–like Losman's int on the goaline last year against Miami that triggered a dramatic collapse, Jauron gives us a decided edge against the competition. It's the difference between a guy who trys to prove he's smarter than everyone else (Mularkey) and one who really is smarter than everyone else but trys to take a backseat role. (Jauron).

That play ultimately turned the game around and can be credited to Jauron. It also may have obscured what, up until that time, was a disappointing performance by Losman, who was getting sacked and making bad decisions in the first half. While Mangini has been mentioned recently as the vogue pick for coach if the year, but the Bills are now just one game behind New York, and have been competitive in all but two games this year. This was a 5-11 team that got gutted in the offseason, losing pro bowl, albeit over the hill players such as Vincent, Moulds, Adams, and Milloy. Further, this years free agent class has been largely unimpressive. The one big improvement has been that of our head coach.

He's not going to get it, and more than likely will not even be mentioned with the exception of this post. But, how many coaches would you rather have right now than Jauron?? He has a quiet confidence to him, and doesn't have the arrogance of a Parcells or the smugness of a Belichick. He may not get it this year, but it wouldn't surprise me if Jauron does one day receive is due in the form of a coach of the year award.

  17. Geez... what's his hangup today?

    862206

Just his usual nonsense. You know, "the only thing that I took from today's game is what a joke the Jets are," and busting on the league for parity. He also said something about Losman being very inaccurate today.

It's funny, he completely overlooks the fact that his beloved NHL also has unpredictable and even peculiar results, such as the Panthers beating the Sabres. Yet, while it makes hockey 'interesting,' it makes the NFL mediocre. He is such a schill for the network; you'd think that there has to be two guys in town more adept to talk sports than those morons

  18. Here was my e-mail to Dyke and Dyke in the morning:

Was that D'Brickshaw Ferguson or Mike Golic playing

left tackle for the JETS today?? Marv at 81 is in

better shape than you at 40, FATTIE!!!! LETS GO BUFFALO!!

On a sidenote, Schopp is on WGR right now sounding about as happy and irritable as if his dog just died, the miserable little puke.
