  1. Are we still talking about CC or has this discussion morphed over to former NYS AG Elliot Spitzer?
  2. Didn't check the link, but they "aired" one in the States back ~December when they were all recording their meals and when they let one rip. (Might be the same one.) They had Adam in a tub catching his. I think the point was to see if someone could make the air in their room so toxic that the person would die. I'm pretty sure that one was busted.
  3. I don't know just how great Marty's trade value is. It appears that it wasn't much more than a 2nd round pick last year or he'd have probably been the one moved rather than Mika. (Either that, or Darcy tried to squeeze Edmonton a little too hard for Marty and ended up with no deal when Minny cut Rolosen loose.) He was an RFA this off-season. Considering he is now a rental player, I don't think he'd bring back much in a trade; definitely not as much as most of us fans would like to see for him. I've seen in several places that the Sabres would like to make a run at Gary Roberts, but don't know if that is based on anything real or meerly speculation. Marty wouldn't land him from the Panthers as a team that won't make the playoffs this year won't trade for a rental goalie. Tampa could be interested in him, as you mention, but I don't know what they would offer for him that would upgrade the Sabres current roster; especially considering the Sabres can't accept salary. If it would make the Sabres better, I wouldn't mind seeing Marty moved; I'm just having a hard time coming up with a deal that someone will bite on.
  4. How could Obama running for President be anything BUT a "silly question" in '04? He hadn't held national office nor been a Governor (either of which would appear to be a prerequisite to running a legitimate Presidential campaign), it could have been argued quite legitimately back then that he would not have the experience after only 2 years in the US Senate to begin a legitimate Presidential campaign. And even though he appears a legitimate candidate now, he is still very far from the Democratic nomination, much less the office itself, and I would be very surprised if his lack of experience isn't a major obstacle for him to overcome in the current election cycle. There are a lot of things I might like to get indignant over Dems actions and views; I am having a hard time seeing how this should be one of them.
  5. In your example, the actions of the licensee still wouldn't fall under 1st amendment protections. It could fall under some civil rights statute, although I don't know what one, as "Bills fans" are not, ttbomk, a protected class, although I think we should be.
  6. Kelly, w/ all due respect, McCain would have been, or more accurately is, wrong if he stated that. The 1st Amendment clearly states that CONGRESS (i.e. the government) cannot abridge the rights of free speech. There is nothing in it that says individuals (or corporations) can't limit what is said (and allowed to be said through their own property). 1st amendment: If Scott wanted to ban you, or I, or any other poster; he would be well within his rights. Clear Channel is no different (although it is a heck of a lot bigger). People also could have protested CC's decision if they so desired and provided they weren't threatening anyone or blowing anything up would have been within their rights.
  7. While Taxi and WKRP are classics that did air in the '80's, I consider them '70's TV shows. The best of the '80's have to include: Cheers Police Squad Hill Street Blues St. Elsewhere Newhart Buffalo Bill (Geena Davis was hot prior to hanging with Susan Sarandon) Family Ties and Cosby get honorable mentions.
  8. Heck, I thought this would be a post about Anna Nicole. Gee, the "international community" needs to do much more to help? No kidding. Considering most of the world is doing absolutely nothing (think France) or actively supporting groups promoting the "insurgents" (think Syria), that isn't really a newsworthy thought. I don't really feel that bad for Syria having to deal with refugees when they are creating a large portion of the problem. (I DO however feel bad for the refugees.)
  9. I really liked the bumper stickers in Louisiana when Edwards was running against Duke in '91. "Vote for the crook. It's important." Talk about a no win situation.
  10. Tomatoes, peppers, cukes, peas, carrots, radishes, pumpkins, cantaloupe, watermelon, potatoes, probably corn (I never seem to have any luck with that, so I'm not sure if I'll plant it or not), and 1 rhubarb plant that we don't seem able to kill. Start all from seeds. Grow the tomatoes and peppers in small pots until the late spring, then transplant them. We also have cherry trees, blackberries, and wild strawberries (and them's good eatin').
  11. How exactly is a courthouse, and one who's construction according to your linked article is the judiciary's #1 priority, pork spending? A courthouse is a building that is required for the judiciary to perform its Constitutionally mandated functions.
  12. You may want to move to Venezuela soon. It looks like they are in the early stages of implementing a system that you would love. Except they are taking it 1 step further than even you are advocating at this point, they are about to steal, er, I meant to say, nationalize all the large private businesses. That way they will be able to have lots of pork spending and give middle class people jobs. As if taking their property at below market rates isn't taxing the rich enough, I'm sure their other taxes will keep the system mostly taxing the rich. It sounds like Utopia, you can probably get a plane ticket to there pretty cheap.
  13. We already have that. It's called the EIC.
  14. That seems to be your favorite talking point and it is also the most spurious. Of course revenue from an income tax increase will go up that particular year and revenue from an income tax decrease will go down that particular year. There is no time for the tax change to alter people's behaviors. Also, I have never understood why you seem to assume that GDP will always grow at 3% regardless of policy. Were that assumption valid, then your argument that tax cuts decrease forever federal receipts and tax increases increase them would be true. Fortunately, your assumption isn't valid. Finally, I still don't understand why you never look at the spending side as a problem with creating the deficit.
  15. Except Dick Nixon wasn't running for POTUS and stated unequivocably "(y)ou won't have Nixon to kick around anymore", and hadn't been in public office for 8 years. He went into private practice for a few years, and then, lo and behold, there he was in '68. I guess we did have him to kick around again, afterall. I'll believe Gore's not running when it's August of '12 and he hasn't thrown his hat in the ring in either race.
  16. EII, I hope you are correct that GL water will never get diverted to the SW. I'm afraid that it will, quite likely in the next 20-50 years. While the GL states and Canada will raise holy hell over the issue and have been working for several years to come to an agreement on this and other issues regarding the GL's, unless there is a treaty approved at the Federal level between the US and Canada you will see increased pressure at the Federal level to allow diversion of GL water. Considering that population shifts are reducing the # of reps from GL states and increasing them in the S and W, it looks like it would be a hard fight to prevent diversion of GL's water if legislation doesn't get passed soon.
  17. Maybe. But a few years back the Bills showed the Fish game down in Miami in the Field House. Some portion of the proceeds went to Roswell Park. They were going to make it an annual thing but the league made them stop doing it claiming that having a corner of the Field House packed with fans hurt the TV ratings.
  18. Unless your profession is "gambler" or more accurately "game show contestant", why would you have to pay employment (SS and medicare) taxes on those winnings? Lotteries and the like are considered "other income", not "self employment" or "wages", so I don't see how you'd have to pay those other taxes on that money.
  19. Top federal tax rate is 35%. Top NYS tax rate is 6.85%. So assuming the lottery winnings don't kick you into paying the AMT, in NYS you'd be taxed 41.85% on a big win.
  20. But most of Reed's catches (5) and yards (124) came in the 1st half while it was still a football game. His 2 big catches came when Dallas only had 14 on the board. After only having the ball for 1 more offensive play the Bills were down by 18. Reed caught the ball 8 of the 9 times they threw his way. The only 1 that wasn't a completion was the play that Kelly got hurt.
  21. Grant's a good egg. (Even though he likes TO.)
