The 4th book in the series, "A Feast for Crows" does drag a bit...but it introduces a lot of interesting characters.
The 4th season on HBO (the second half of "A Storm of Swords") is going to be epic...so much happens!
-
Now you can get caught up by reading the books. They're all great!
-
Can you attribute that more to Byrd or the fact that we got ran over like a raccoon on a highway nearly every game ?
You must be the most mentally challenged person on this forum. The Bills' defense has sucked, so why would we want to keep our best defender? You sound like a damn fool.

If the management caves everytime a player holds out, more will hold out. The Bills gave him a very generous, all guaranteed cash offer. If he plays this season & makes a huge impression, he'll be holding a huge contract. The past 3 years performancse have been good but not rookie year amazing good, so which player do we pay ?? The rookie Byrd guy or the past 3 year guy, using the data we have ??
If you decide how valuable a player is based solely on stats, you don't know what you're talking about. He had less passes defensed because QBs aren't throwing his way as often.
He's the best tackler on the team, creates the most turnovers, is good against the run, etc...You're a fool if you think any player wants the franchise tag, especially at a young age like Byrd.
The Bills are stupid for even letting it get this far...they should've signed him last year and avoided the franchise tag altogether.
-
JB's 2009 INT total is equal to his past 3 years combined, even passes defended is close for 2009 if you combine the last 3 years. That's a one year wonder to me & you don't pay him near the most money for one amazing rookie season.
That post shows how little you know about football.
-
You can't build a contender by overpaying players at lower impact positions either.
What is an extremely strong indicator of a successful team? Turnovers. Byrd is by far the best on the team at creating them. He plays safety.
How in your right mind can you say he plays a "lower impact position"?
The defensive gameplan last year was atrocious every single week. I'm hoping they sign Byrd long term and build off of him.
-
That doesn't even make sense. Last season Byrd's stats were better than Goldson's in every category except passes defensed. Yet the AP voters, who presumably watched the games, because they didn't go by stats, voted Goldson 1st team and Byrd 2nd team. Take it up with them.
So your opinion is based on what sportswriters think?
-
Despite Byrd's better overall stats to Goldson, I'd still just offer him a 5-year $40M deal with $21M guaranteed, take it or leave it. Goldson came off a 1st team AP All-Pro season while Byrd was 2nd team. What he did (mostly as a rookie) has no bearing on his contract today.
Spoken like someone who only looks at stats and doesn't actually watch the games. Anyone with half a brain and access to actually watch the games knows Byrd is better now than he was as a rookie, despite not having as many interceptions.
-
The books are 10x better. If you haven't read them, you should.
-
To all you fools who don't think Byrd makes a difference...you are wrong. He creates turnovers. Creating turnovers is the ultimate goal on defense. He's the one player the Bills have that is really good at doing so. Jason Peters was traded for Eric Wood, Danny Batten, and Shaun Nelson. When you have a known commodity, you don't risk giving it away for an unknown.
-
Camp fodder to give the other players a rest.
-
Who cares? Some people need to find a hobby.
-
I find rookie Duke Williams VERY interesting as a FS prospect. I think his ceiling may be even higher than Byrd's... Don't be shocked if he absolutely shines in TC...
Lol. Seriously? C'mon man, get real.
-
No mention of McKelvin? If there is a single player on this team that has the most potential to be reborn, it's him. Pettine's scheme, with it's huge reliance on the corners, is a goldern opportunity for him.
GO BILLS!!!
I agree! Leodis is going to have a career year in my opinion.
-
Agreed. Byrd did his 4-5 year forced service with the crap franchise and now wants a big contract with a real NFL team, the Bills are in full restart mode and who wants to play on a totally rebuilding team during the prime of his career. In Buffalo. Um,,, no one. See: Andy Levitre. One thing working against him is the fact that this was a huge draft for safeties and many teams who were probably interested in Byrd are no longer interested after having drafted safeties this year.
F-----g great post. Byrd is a badass. He deserves better...but I still hope they can somehow get him under contract for another 5 years.
-
With how crappy Buddy Nix is at drafting, why the hell would anyone want a draft pick or two instead of Byrd? That makes no sense to me.
-
I hope we take an offensive lineman in the 1st, and I hope to God we don't take Nassib in the 2nd...he looks very average. I don't care if Marrone knows him well. I don't see him going until round 3...I think people are crazy wanting to trade back into the first or even spend a 2nd on him.
-
Good lord. He wasn't even a stand out player on Oregon's defense! He's Aaron Maybin 2.0.
-
If you're worried that Byrd hasn't signed his tag by mid April, you should try getting a life. It's like a big room of whining women in here, save for a few.
Byrd has created more turnovers than Ed Reed did in his first 4 years. But that's not good enough for some.
-
What a bunch of fickle fans some of you are. I guess some people don't appreciate a good player when they see one.
-
Yet they are in the playoff hunt year in and year out.
-
Nothing wrong with this. Get over it.
Seriously.
-
The players make more than a fair amount. They should consider themselves lucky.
-
It cracks me up when people still defend this team.
Say what you want about teams overspending but are those teams like the Dolphins and Titans better then they were a week ago or not?
There has also been numerous players signing deals including one year deals that haven't broke the bank that would have helped the Bills but they are apparently can't do two things at once
Great post. The Bills sit on their hands yet again, while Miami and NE make moves to strengthen their teams. Prices are way down this year, and yet the Bills are still stuck at the gate, while others are off and running.
How long does Pettine stay with us?

My sentiments exactly.
