    Cook Islands.  (Rarotonga and Aitutaki.)

The wife and I were scheduled to fly there next week, for a two-week holiday.

    Cancelled.

The sad part is that the Cook Islands haven't had a single case of Covid-19 and we're free from it, apart from Kiwis returning from overseas.

I’ve looked at both of those spots. We did Moorea & Bora Bora for our honeymoon and have always wanted to go back to the South Pacific. Had originally planned to do our 10 year at Huahine, Rangiroa & Bora Bora. Too many life obstacles going on to make it happen at the time but whenever we do go back that way (God willing), I think we’ll probably do that and also tack on the Cooks as well. Hell, if you’re already in the neighborhood why not!?

I did that one for the 1st time this year, and have to say Disney does it right—great course, great support, and great camaraderie amongst the field of runners—it was my 1st ever marathon and decided I’d try to make this an annual tradition...hope we both get the chance at this one again soon!

That’s for sure. Very well organized & executed from start to finish. Pretty impressive considering the amount of participants. We’ve done the January 1/2 twice and then switched to the wine & dine and have done that 6 times. Always enjoy doing the race, relaxing for a bit then drinking around the world!

Aruba. We try and go every couple of years. This was our year, pushed it to next year instead (?). Also love Hilton Head and of course, Buffalo.

We were supposed to do Aruba for the first time in April. Was really looking forward to it. “Supposed” to drive down to Hilton head for a partial week before Labor Day but not sure if that will happen or not.

Not sure how true this is for Columbus.  Apartments and condos are being built downtown like they are going out of style.  2-3 years ago I was considering the move to downtown.  Now, you can't touch a condo / townhouse downtown.  Prices went out of the roof.

I think I’ve heard we’re the hottest market in the country

Yep we were supposed to go that week, plus am signed up for the full in January, but not looking much more promising at that time either. Here’s to 2022!

Well at least you don’t have to run a full ?! Tons of respect for those that do that. 1/2 is about my max but I have said I’d like to do the Jan full once just to say I did it!

  5. SXM used to be our Caribbean spot but last time were there was pre Irma in 2015. It’s been pretty messed up since and Corona is just destroying any progress that was made.

We’ll miss our annual fall Disney trip for the food & wine 1/2 marathon.

If we’re not able to travel this winter for some ski trips that will really hurt too. Supposed to go to Montana in early Jan with our friends and all the kids to their ski condo.

Did the notice to STH say that specifically?

    Yep

“Season Ticket Members that apply money as an account credit will have exclusive access to 2020 single game ticket sales for available seats if spectators are permitted. We will have multiple single game ticket sales throughout the season as capacity is determined. In any limited spectator scenario, seating capacity in the stadium will be reduced, seat locations may change each game, and all members may not be able to purchase tickets for every game they want to attend. Additional ticket purchase limits and other restrictions will apply and be communicated before any ticket sales.“

If I read the article correctly, it seems to me the Bills are effectively “canceling” all season tickets this year but telling current STH that “you’re good” for 2021.  My question is what is the setup if there are fans allowed this year?  Will current STH have priority for purchase or will it simply be a free-for-all when the limited number of seats go on sale?  I see valid arguments for both.

If you let the Bills keep your $ already paid, you’ll have “first crack” at some ticket if they allow some fans at some point. Not your seat, but just a seat somewhere in the stadium.

  8. I think I’m gonna go with the account credit. I’m 3/4 paid up anyways, I’m luckily not in dire need of the funds elsewhere and I’d kick myself all the way down the road If by some miracle we were playing a home playoff game this year with some fans in the stands and I wasn’t one of them. Plus, when next year rolls around I’ll be almost fully paid up and it will be like finding a bunch of money in the couch!

If your a player, having to quarantine and spend the majority of your time somewhere with limited external contact, I'm sure you would want that place to be very nice

Pittsburgh has a very nice ball field with major League caliber facilities. Buffalos facility is nice for a minor league club, but its not the same as a pro league facility.

Get out of here with this sense making. Who the hell took my pitchfork!? Rabble!!!!

    Apples ? & Oranges ?

People drink intoxicating libations and social  distancing  breaks down.  Yes, it is about  alcohol. It's  that simple.

And... If you  drink ? alone, that's  another red flag.

Well I guess I’m in trouble then. Good thing we have people around here to help us alcoholics from further ruining our lives.

Maybe people should eat something else for a while, so the plant can be disinfected, the workers all tested and contacts traced, and the outbreak contained?

I hear there's a company that sells cans 'o beans and stuff ?

A lot of these plants are in rural areas where the hospital capacity is NOT good.  The workers and their families shop at Walmart, go to church, all that stuff.
How exactly do "the vulnerable protect themselves" when they need to buy groceries and Walmart is what they got, and the asymptomatically infected meat plant employees are all shopping there?

The vulnerable protect themselves by not putting themselves in high risk situations. A grocery store where everyone is wearing masks, practicing social distancing and disinfecting the shared surfaces doesn’t scream high risk to me.

But yup, let’s go ahead and shut everything down and live in a fake bubble for an undetermined amount of time again. Forget the people who lost jobs, they don’t matter.

I'm not disagreeing that the degree of shutdown necessary should correlate with the severity and likelihood of an outbreak.

    But two points:

    1) One learning about covid-19 is because of the high number of asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic cases...by the time you see that you have a problem, you're probably blowing up (or on the verge of blowing up).  SW MO would be an example of that.

    2) In many areas which were "fine", people moved through and brought virus with them...for example wealthy people renting property in Jackson Hole or in Montana.

I could be wrong, but I really think the global economy (and the economy of different states) is so intertwined these days that it's very hard to say "close that meat packing plant in SD that's having an outbreak but leave the ones in Iowa and MO open...the one plant feeds the others....so they all need to be open or they all need to close.

I vote for open then, since people need to eat. Until I see a dramatic shift in the demographics of the people having the worst outcomes, I’m of the opinion that the vulnerable should protect themselves and the rest of us should do our part to help them. “Locking down“ em masse again is going to cause more collateral damage than the virus itself.

For all of you crockpot pulled pork naysayers, here is a recipe that a former coworker shared with me, as his grandmother wrote it.  It turns out ridiculously good.  Yes .. I prefer the smoker or the oven, too.  But this really is legit.

(to save time, I am not going to worry about capitalization, etc.  I'm typing it as it's written)

    bbq sauce:

cook an onion finely chopped until soft

put onions in a pot, add equal parts of light brown sugar, ketchup and apple juice (usually 2 cups is good)

add a squirt of mustard, a few dashes of worcestershire and liquid smoke

bring to a boil an simmer for 15-20 min or until it's the consistency that you want

    Pork:

Put the pork in the crockpot, use 1 cup of sauce and top off with apple juice

    Cook for about 8 hours

pull pork out of crock pot, discard cooking liquid

shred pork and return to crockpot, add the rest of the sauce, stir and heat until hot

    Serve

Laugh all you want, but before I got a smoker, this is how I made it and it is phenomenal.

It may be good, but I can’t get past the liquid smoke.

And what you're saying supports what I've been saying from day 1 ... Brian Daboll needs to be better and Sean McDermott needs to see to it.  The Baltimore Ravens' coaching staff made an MVP out of a mediocre at best QB.  How?  By realizing and utilizing his strengths and surrounding him with the necessary talent.

The talent is here. Daboll needs to be better.

I think Daboll has to be better too. But in his defense and I guess one thing I kinda like, is that they seem to be going for the more long term development approach with JA (which I think is the correct move).

They’re not trying to catch some lightning for a year or two with a gimmicky offense like the Ravens are doing. They seem to be throwing a lot at him, letting him sink or swim a bit, then adjusting as necessary. It seems like for the first time in forever, they’re actually trying to build a guy up for a 10+ year career as a legit starter.

I can get behind that, even if it doesn’t work out in the long run. Especially with someone like JA who has incredible physical talent but was pretty raw coming out of college.

Tentatively planning a week in Charleston and Hilton Head at the end of July.  Its not the Bali trip we had imagined but it will do.

Since we had to bag Aruba in April and almost certainly will be bagging our Annual fall wine & dine 1/2 marathon at Disney we decided to do 5 nights in Hilton head before Labor Day with just the wife & kiddo. Her aunt lives in Charlotte so convenient stop for a night at least on the way down to break up the drive. When we leave we may drive all the way straight to WNY, looking at a lake house for the holiday weekend with a bunch of friends. Maybe Chautauqua lake. Should be like training camp for the liver before football season.

BTW, won a Cup with the HUrricanes in 06, so maybe this is the Sabres cosmic offering to the hockey gods that finally gets this franchise back to that spot

Played at my alma mater also!
