  1. What some of us object to is giving aid to nations (aid that comes out of the taxpayers wallet) to nations that openly support anti-Americanism such as Indonesia. And this is the opportunity to point out the hypocrisy and greed of nations such as Indonesia.

I don't think there should be political tests for people dying. Life is sacred, so I believe. (or racial one's)

  2. As a foreigner I thought I better weigh in:

I have recieved many kind words of support and condolence since the July terrorist attacks in London from Americans. Those words have been glady and gratefully recieved. So to the victims, family and friends of Katrina I offer my sincere condolences, prayers and hope for a swift return to normal.

In terms of Aid, both financial and humanitarian, large prosperous nations such as the US, UK, Germany, Australia, etc cannot realistically expect a large amount of aid from foreign countries. We are the ones with the money, so we have to make sure we look after ourselves properly.  I hope the UK is offering aid of some sort in this case, but chances are it will not be accepted or needed. The USA has remarkable resources at its fingertips that the rest of the world can only dream of - you'll use them to the best of your ability to fix up and move on.

Take our aid if you need it - take our condolences and prayers because we offer them.

Don't be isolationist - in times of crisis you need your friends, if only for a shoulder to cry on.

Nick, you're a man with grace and sensibility. :P Thanks for being in this forum.

  3. Usually the swiss offer dog teams to sniff out survivors in rubble.

I am sure there will be offers, but the problem is not resources the problem will be access. The US has millions of gallons of water, but when there is no highway in, that doesn't do you a hell of a lot of good. We don't need aid, we need a sensible plan for hundreds of thousands of homeless people.

  4. I saw looters circling FootLocker on TV in NO today like Sharks around a distressed fish. It was appauling. Thugs looking for a new pair of "Melo's" during others absolute worst time.

It will be nice to die of dyptheria or dehydration with your new Air Jordan's on.

Those people are already f***ed. I wouldn't be surprised if you had a death toll in one month in the thousands.

  5. Here is a disturbing thought. I know someone that is retired from New York State and he says that during emergencies they were trained to never release a high death toll or estimation early as it does not make people evacuate but return to look for friends and family. He speculates that the death toll is probably ten times greater than early estimates. I hope he is wrong, but I suspect he knows something about this.

  6. When a roof is missing a third or half of its shingles, there is a good chance of major damage. With no power, there is no air conditioning. Moist + hot = mold.

Edit: not that I am worried about the Superdome getting mold. I was referring to peoples houses.

  7. "Own" or "owned"?  I thought the Japanese pretty much broke them up.

They worked with a lot of stuff, I know; anthrax was the only one I distinctly recalled.  But Aum Shinryko (for those who don't know) had a $2B war chest and one of the better bio labs in Japan.  One would assume it wasn't just for anthrax.

They had a pretty good business model too. They brainwashed college aged kids and had many of them assembling computers 16 hours a day. They would then sell these things at very good discounts, but there was no labor overhead. You could buy these things in every major city in Japan.

Fortunately they were just trying to foster the end of the world, and didn't have a good game plan past that.

  8. It's actually pretty straightforward.  Much simpler than football.  Played Rugby for a club in college -- have 8 stitches in my eyebrow and a pint of blood on the old rugby shirt as a reminder, esp. since I don't can't recall the after-game parties (a vile and amusing events).

My roomate played college hockey and I called him a wimp for playing with pads.

Would like to play again but I don't think my body could take it anymore (pushing 40).

Spend a lot of time watching 6 nations or the Rugby world cup, and Pro Football starts looking really slow. I always loved the non-stop action, but I am too cheap to buy PPV for only myself unless Ireland is playing.

  9. Someone refresh my memory.  Wasn't Wire originally picked up for run support in Williams' 4-6?  I seem to remember statements - probably from the same people now lambasting him  :( - to the effect of "Oh, goody, we've got a run-stopping tackler of a safety for the 4-6!"

Quick, don't think, spend 90 minutes shopping for shoes or watch Coy Wire's career highlight film?
