  1. 2 things come to mind..A helluva nice young man who everyone was rooting for. A shame that the Bills disaster of a franchise plus his

questionable football smarts killed all that.

The drought era Bills' organizational approach to the QB position wasn't just bad, it was criminal!

Shockingly mismanaged for decades.  And we weren't alone!

I feel like just now teams are FINALLY starting to catch on you have NOTHING without a QB!

    NOTHING!

The Bills were miraculously inept as a franchise. Almost beyond belief.

That goes double for Edmunds and Oliver. They were 1st round picks. As such, they should not be using the excuse that they need to have a better 1-Tech or DE's to play better. They should be the ones elevating the performance of the people around them.

right on the money Gregg. As soon as that excuse comes up you probably  have a dud.

  3. The Bills  fans are famous for the 'playing out of position' excuse.  I dont believe  Oliver and Edmunds are bad players.I think they are very average. So the high  picks used for them were very bad decisions..Unless they are both playing out of position.

Put Oliver at DE and see if he is strong/fast enough to get push from the outside as well as contain the run. I think its obvious that he isnt going to  win many

sumo matches in the middle in an enclosed area against an O lineman who outweighs him by 50 LBs.

Edmunds doesnt have the body type for middle linebacker.Too top heavy.--Put him outside as well so he can use that speed .

This is a ridiculous assertion.  We've had a top defense until last year when some injuries and opt-outs hurt a lot more than any draft or FA misses did.

And frankly, I'm much happier that they have a top offense and a middling defense vs having a top defense and a middling offense

It's a much stronger and sustainable brand of football.

Would you prefer that we bring another GM in to make these decisions???  Again - ridiculous

we get one of the fat guys back this year. we should draft a fat guy at #30....its a matter of physics

I was unaware that there was so much hate about the Bass pick..........that seems a bit exaggerated on your part.

I liked using a late pick on a talented kicker.........late round picks are fair game for any position.

As for getting a true game changer for 5 years..........that's a lot to ask of a RB nowadays.

Zeke Elliott was IMO the best RB prospect of the past decade of drafts...........and he's been the best producing RB selected in round 1 in that span........and has now actually played in the NFL for 5 years..........and still in 2 of those seasons handing the ball off to him has been a less-than-league-average per-carry proposition.

The odds are more in favor of that RB ending up producing like Fournette or Sony Michel than they are getting 3 "game changer" seasons out of 5 like Elliott.

The era of RB's you could expect to be good every year until they turned 30 seems to have ended with guys like AD and Shady..........the position doesn't pay so the best amateur athletes just don't say there.    Instead each draft class of RB's seems to be a field of players like Etienne who don't have the size or length to project to a more premium position.   Today's starting RB's are the athletes that would have been the backup RB's 20 years ago.

right on the money..  in fact going back further the very best athletes were the RBs.Guys like Tyrod would have been an excellent RB instead of a barely mediocre QB.

Michael Vick would have been a legendary RB.

I remember there was a reason I never joined Bills forums during the drought years. It seemed like getting five or six wins was a badge of honor to some because we were never at the bottom. Comparing the Bills and Sabres is apples to oranges, but not making the NFL playoffs for almost two decades is also epically bad. I don’t care if you win five games every season, it’s still a tremendous feat of incompetence. This is a good organization now, so none of that matters. I just think it’s funny how some will always be in denial that the Buffalo Bills had been a rotten franchise in the past. It’s ok to admit that, it makes having ownership willing to spend money, and good front office staff all the more impressive.

the sabres were the quality franchise.....what a shame that after 40 years of being an upper tier nhl  franchise its come down to this for the past decade

I think most realistic Sabres fans thought the absolute best this squad could do was “hang around” the last playoff spots. The core is rotten and has been for some time. I see the point you’re making, but I don’t think this years’ Sabres are a good way to illustrate it.

sabres players are grossly overrated exc for eichel

Agree with the premise of the article.

    1. The Sabres don't draft well. None of their picks end up being that good - Ristolainen, Mittelstadt, Nylander. How long did we hear about Justin Bailey, Brendan Guhle? Never did anything.

    2. The Sabres get themselves into horrible deals - Matt Moulson, Larsson, Okposo, Gionta, Bogosian

    3. They were like the Bills, they love old minded Coaches and GMs. They love the Phil Housley's and Ralph Krueger's who talk about gritty goals, and checking, and defense. The last GM they had sat there are did nothing for 3 years in Botterill. Their GM before was Tim Murray, at least he tried to bring in SKILL.

We love guys like Cody Eakin now.

How do you draft a guy into the N H L who cant do a pullup?

Funny thing is, one of the few people who DID see it coming was Benjamin Albright, who just so happens to be the same guy saying the Bills are looking RB at 30.

Also, I agree that Harris is the perfect fit for the Bills. Power backs go much better with spread offenses than speed backs. Come out in 10 or 11 personnel and the defense comes out in nickel or dime. Then you have a guy like Najee Harris back there and, well....the opposing defenders are gonna have to make some business decisions.

a RB and a DE...our D worked hard and played hard last yr but they spent whole games without getting much of a rush

Wow.  So much being put on Star, a situational player who chose not to play last year, coming in and having what would have to be a career year to live up to expectations.

i dont know about that. i just think we need more weight on the d line(in addition to a passrusher)  We lost 2 good fat guys last yr.Thats why we were only barely avg on D .

True, but Reggie White had 29 sacks in the previous 2 seasons before moving to GB, and had started 16 out of 16 games for the previous 5 seasons. There were no signs of injury or performance dips in his entire career.

He only missed 1 game and 3 starts in his 6 years in GB, and had 16 sacks in his last season with GB at the age of 37.

There is only 1 Reggie White.

right on the money. Watt will give you 4-6 games/yr.People expect him to get healthier as he gets older?
