I actually like what they're doing with Allen. I think that how they're developing him will pay dividends down the line. It looks to me like they are trying to rein in his hero ball and turn him into a passer. There will be growing pains but he's young and they're still winning.

    So much exactly this.

Year 1 they let him loose faster than they meant to and let him play loose and free, making mistakes but just seeing what he is at QB. Year 2 is all about making sure he has game management skills and completing a high percentage of passes.

Josh was drafted AS A PROJECT and everyone knew that.

What we know after 18(?) starts:

    - he is clutch

    - he can take over a game with his physical ability

    - he can (now) manage a game

    - he can be accurate

    - he has touch

    - he is learning to control his impulses

    - he is a big threat to run

    Things still in progress:

    - downfield accuracy

    - hot-read blitzing reaction

Most fan bases would be damn happy to have Josh. I sure am!

Yep, I agree with that for the most part. My view of the QBs that bring a lot of running to the table has generally been that you still have to be able to pass (duh), but that if you're a very good runner, it increases your margin for error as a passer (i.e. the way it plays out in actuality is that it'll likely be easier to find holes in the defense due to the defense needing to expend more resources on stopping their running ability).

I'd say that this applies to guys that are the level of runner that Josh Allen is, but Lamar is in a completely different class in that regard. He's legitimately as good a runner as probably like a top 10ish RB and is also throwing the ball like an average starting QB. I'm sure a couple teams will be able to play him very tough defensively (New England comes to mind), but with Roman's running schemes, Lamar's vertical passing ability, and Lamar's elusiveness within the pocket, he's turning into a very, very difficult QB to stop.

He was IMO the best QB prospect in his draft class and he seems to be developing faster/more than a lot of people expected of him.

I thought Jackson was the second worst prospect (ahead of Rosen). He's totally proven me wrong. I don't know if he will be good long-term (meaning, can he stay healthy?) but he's going to win a lot of games. His running ability is other-worldly and that gives his WRs a lot of time to get open.

IMO, Wentz is a one dimensional quarterback in that if you eliminate Zach Ertz as a target for him, that offense struggles mightily.  He's poor at distributing the ball.  Their Lions and Cowboys games are blueprints on how to do it.

Ertz will not be easy for the Bills to deal with without Milano. They sucked covering the TE yesterday.

Its not really silly. Yes they were built for who they played against at the time. Thats the whole point...those big LBs meant to stop the run would have a lot of problems trying to cover people...

Just like saying today's defenses would have had issue playing the 70s Steelers teams that were built to run it down your throats a lot of times...today's defenses are designed to stop the pass.

Yesterday showed Bills need help at:

    1. SAM position behind Milano.  History shows he can't be counted on for 16 games as hurt each of first 3 years.

    2. Edge Rusher.  Bills struggled to get pressure from outside despite Miami OTs being below average.  This is top trade target at deadline.

    3. WR continues to be a need on this team. Another outside target with separation skills would help.

Phone lines are open at ONE.

I would put RT and WR before DE, but agree overall. The Bills should be able to fill a need in the next week without giving up the future. This team is not SB-ready so I think they can save the high picks and try to just upgrade some spots.

The 85 Bears would not do as well today...the West Coast Offense is what ultimately led to the 46 defense's demise...they would be good today but not dominant as the spread, quick passing games and RPO's would lead to a lot of problems.

That's silly. They dominated who was on the field at the time. You can't ever swap teams from other eras. The '85 Bears D was maybe the best of all time.

Criticizing them is like saying Kelly was not a good QB because his completion % is low by today's standards.

He played great and beat a very good team on the road. Ravens have the highest scoring offense in football. Lamar is why.

They are going to be hard to beat in a few weeks.

    Agreed.

His route running leaves a lot to be desired as well. I watched a lot of the Seattle/Baltimore game and his change in direction is very telegraphed. It makes it easy for CBs to cover him.

He was bad yesterday. That's not been the case other games. I've strangely seen a lot of the Seahawks. He is better than I thought and has better hands. Yesterday he was terrible.

Well, a lot more to do with his terrible lateral movement. His three-cone and shuttle times were slower than Tom Brady's. And now we see him try to move laterally and he just loses control of the football!

I thought he would suck but he's been darn good.

    UGLY win.

Only feels ugly because the Dolphins have played so badly before today. Today they played their best football on O by far, and their D was not really that good...but good enough to force 3FGs when the Bills got to the 20.

Every team loves playing for Fitz--that might be their best shot this season coming off the near win alst week under Fitz and starting to almost believe.

The only thing I'm concerned about after today is the Bills interior defensive line, which got gashed quite a few times and their pass rush vs a quick release QB.

I totally expected this type of game against a division rival with Fitz as their starting QB. If some of you didn't think this was going to be a tougher game with him at the helm then I don't know what to tell ya.

Fitz was very good but that pick was awful. If they score 7 there, the Bills may lose.

    Must signings:

LB Lorenzo Alexander - 1 year cap friendly deal

    DT Jordan Phillips

    OL Quentin Spain

    CB Levi Wallace

    2020 Free Agents:

CB Tre’Davious White*  - 5th year option but try to get a deal done - will save on cap space and not risk him getting to free agency

    LB Matt Milano
OL Dion Dawkins - try to extend ahead of time

S   Jordan Poyer - try to extend ahead of time

    OG Jon Feliciano

    Would like to resign:

    DE Shaq Lawson

    RB Frank Gore

    CB Kevin Johnson

    WR Isaiah McKenzie

    2020 Free Agents:

    DL Trent Murphy

    S   Jordan Poyer

    OT Ty Nsheke

    OG Jon Feliciano

The guy that I disagree with most with on that list is Milano. If he wants big money, let him walk. He's great but I have little faith in him completing 16-game seasons. Johnson and McKenzie are "meh" resignings. Shaq is only worth it for a fair contract. Gore I love but again only for the right $$.

Not in 10 years and I don't think in 20, either. Perhaps the technology will be ready, but changing minds and habits is going to take a LONG time in a country where owning a car = personal freedom to so many.

I value my time more than my freedom to drive on a road, as do most people. Give me drives where I am free to do what I want any day of the week.
