  1. If it happens, I'm happy.  I don't need two years to size up anyone's performance.  How he handled adversity suggests he does not have a strong enough personality to handle the job.  I could say this another way, referencing body parts.

I'm not concerned with MM as much as I am with the vibe it sends off to perspective coaching candidates and FAs.

The only coaches who might now be interested in coming to a F'd up situation like this are guys like Cottrell or Haz, who've worked or played here before. I'd prefer to draw from a deeper talent pool than that...

  2. it's sad, actually. the buffalo media and fan base has become more abusive than i can ever remember, and that's gotta to be tough to deal with for anyone.

as for getting a new coach, great. let's get some assistant coach who's never done a goddamn thing and who no one truly knows anything about except that he comes from a vaguely defined "good coaching tree."

i hope mularkey stays. but given the espn reports, i seriously doubt that he will.

I'm not happy. We need some stability at OBD right now if we're ever going to attract any qualified coaches or FAs. MM's just castrated himself as a HC here, so he has to leave regardless of how today's meeting goes.

  3. for giving Charlie Weis an extension!!  Damn you TD for not hiring Weis in the first place!!

ND is a better job than ANYTHING in the NFL...what's a mystery is that more pro coaches don't do what Charlie did.

  4. Oh god...if Meathead 2.0 leaves the Bills, does that leave the door open for Meathead 1.0 to come in and take his place?

Ralph is a cheap bastard when it comes to hiring head coaches...he could EASILY see Mike Tice as the best available (and cheapest) HC canidate.

Now there's an image: Marv working with Tice.... :P

  5. Bills | Mularkey to resign?

    Thu, 12 Jan 2006 12:51:27 -0800

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Buffalo Bills head coach Mike Mularkey reportedly met with team president Ralph Wilson and general manager Marv Levy Thursday, Jan. 12, about resigning from the head coaching post. The resignation is not forced, as Wilson and Levy are trying to convince him to stay.

So what OC or DC would want to work with him now??? :P

    Jesus H. Christ...this is getting FUG'd up.

  6. Mularkeys family doesn't like the criticism he is taking.

Ralph and Marv are trying to talk him out of quiting.  All of this is according to Mort.

Can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. :P

Even if he's voicing this concern internally at OBD, the fact that Mort's picked up on it neuter's his effectiveness as a leader, IMO. I'd eat his salary and wipe the slate clean.

  7. Without a doubt, Donahoe's biggest fault was his inability to pick the right coach.

Why do you assume it was TDs decision? Maybe the high profile cocahing candidates didn't want to work with TD, given his rep with Cowher.

  8. Why Irvin?  That would really piss me off if he gets in before Reed (and even Monk)

People say Reed "hung on" and "padded" stats.  Well, guess what?  Reed has more catches in his first 12 years than Irvin does in his entire 12 year career (766 vs 750).  He has more touchdowns (75-65).  They played in a similar number of playoff games and have similar playoff stats.  What the hell?

Yeah, but did Reed play for "America's" Team, or act like a clown on a network pregame show? I put Irvin in the same category as Howie Long. IMO, Long got in because of his TV exposure more than playing career.
