  1. I am very disappointed, but not as much in the trade but that Dareus has turned into a player of this little value.

Just so everyone is clear, we did NOT trade the number three overall pick for a 6th rounder. We traded a disappointing and underachieving and overpaid player who we mistakenly thought six years ago was better than Julio Jones, Patrick Peterson, AJ Green and JJ Watt.

We are trading the current player and remaining contract, and the fact that we didn't get our draft value six and a half years ago shouldn't impact our judgment here. Like the Watkins trade, we have to evaluate the actual player now and the impact of their departure on the big picture in addition to what we get back. I'm more confident in out current decision makers than I have been in a while, so I will trust the process.

If there was a better trade they would have taken it, so when no team will offer a fourth for him, the mistake is in the past and all 32 teams think he is worth less than a fourth as a player with his contract. Oh well. Let's win. Sunday and see what 5-2 feels like without Marcel.

Yeah, sunk cost fallacy all up and down this thread.

  2. But why get rid of him this year at all? Why not after the season?

Guessing that they felt his negatives in the locker room outweighed his so-so contribution on the field to this point. I've worked with malcontents before, sometimes it's such a positive to be rid of them that the cost doesn't matter.

  3. Yeah, alot more body of work to judge from McD than Beane and he has been phenomenal.

But Beanes trades have produced, Matthews and Gaines have been critical in some of the victories.

I've been saying it for weeks, next year will be the year that the talent on this team jumps up.

I am stoked to see what they do next year with all those picks. They have me confident in their decision-making and they seem to know the players they want.

  4. He won't be released mid season.

The thing I wonder- who here thinks this is the way you reach dareus and get him re-engaged? It doesn't seem like the right approach to me. I'm not sure how to get the guy but this doesn't feel like it.

May as well try it. Nothing else has worked to this point. And if Dareus doesn't step up, I will put the blame on him. He's getting paid to be a star, he's an adult, and if he needs a professional support network he can definitely afford therapists.

  5. and it's rare to see such low standards all over this entire forum. how is striving for a championship miserable?

Telling other fans "Anything less than a super bowl title is a failure" does not equal "striving for a championship". Look, the Bills played a solid game Sunday and had a win. I'm happy because I root for the team and I like seeing them win. I say you're miserable because you're here complaining after a win.

  6. No. Panthers smash us. The Jets are terrible. The Panthers will be playing a similar D, so maybe the Bills score points, but McD's secondary gave up some yards to Mclown. Cam Newton is going to throw through the air. When McD switches to covering the pass, then Cam will run. The D will break at the end of the third quarter and the Panthers will run away in the forth. The Panthers will be a great feat for the Bills to play against.

I think the Bills could have a chance, but at this early stage in the season, the Bills haven't matured enough yet to compete against the Panthers. Fans will be calling for McD's and Beanbabies heads on Monday.

I guess "some yards" could mean anything greater than 0, so in that sense you're correct, but McCown got 187 yards and 4.8 YPA. Let's not act like it wasn't a good all-around defensive performance.

  7. So what is the vision? Hope that teams who don't need QBs finish at the bottom so they will want to trade out of the pick? If the Jets, Browns and 49ers finish with the top 3 picks and there are 3 franchise guys then they aren't trading out no matter how many picks we have. This team is probably going to have a mediocre season which means we won't make the playoffs but we'll still win enough games to keep us from having a top pick. It's literally the worst place to be.

I don't see any way that the Jets would trade. But what if Kizer shows some promise for the Browns and the 49ers go out and get Cousins? Suddenly the idea of taking a couple of 1st round picks to build around that guy starts to look more attractive. I don't think it's as cut and dried as you do.

  8.

I have no idea how the McD + Beane tandem will turn out and I pray to God this is finally the answer. I think it's very possible the team could be on the verge of figuring this whole mess out and turning the culture into a winning one, but I'm also reserving my right to withhold any optimism until they show signs of a winning consistently. Too many times I've been burned by this team to just sit by and accept every single thing they do as a positive move.

So, with all that...it blows my mind how snarky some of the answers here are. I'm a die-hard fan just like all of you, but I cannot understand how many people continually defend this franchise, decision-after-decision, after 17 brutal, playoff-less seasons.

The OP wants accountability? Heck yeah - so do I. Asking him why he "deserves" it, is pathetic.

Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

I mean, it's not a bad question to ask, but it seems pretty clear the team has no interest in offering up an individual for outsiders to hold accountable. If you can't live with that, then you should exert the pressure that you can on the team - but I don't thinking bitching on a fan site amounts to anything.

  9. Cause may family has had season tickets since the 60's. I go to every game, buy beer, buy clothing. I'm 29 and never seen a Bills successful team that I can remember. I want to know who to hold responsible.

Cause I want to know how the team I support is run. Like every other fan of any other team.

Would it make a difference if you knew McDermott or Beane was responsible for a given decision? The only entity that you can "hold responsible" is the Bills organization as a whole, by deciding whether or not to continue buying tickets and merchandise.

  10.

It's a legitimate way to write an article: find something good, use it as a standard and compare it to something poor. I thought it was pretty decent. Some might think the part about Whaley playing with his daughter is overreaching, but it could also be used to signal that he knew he was on the way out.

That's the way I took it - that it was a sign that Whaley had been completely marginalized at that point, not that it was indicative of his tenure.
