Dean, what the heck is going on with your face dude?
-
That was the smartest thing I've ever read on this board.
And I'm actually not being sarcastic.
Yo Hargrove, you're the one that started the new thread bro.
-
To Quote the great Anchorman, "Well that got out of control pretty quick."
Listen, experts and novices alike, this post was certainly not trying to "jockey" my take on how good or not good these players will be or could be, examine their mental capacities, evaluate their on-field ability, make a case for their worthiness of their pick, test their character, pimp their ride, or whatever else.
I am simply commenting the fact that certain dudes looked pretty cut, ripped, sculpted, jacked, whatever you want to call it. Although, I still think that Calvin Johnson will be nasty next year. I mean the dude is 6' 6, runs the 40 faster than most CB's, and he isn't spindly, he is huge. He is gonna be one tough cat to cover. I saw him a few times last year and he blew it up on a totally sucky team.
Lions take him and continue their quest to be the black hole of 1st round WR.

If Turner costs a 1 and 3 (which I don't think they would ever get for him), then Portis should at least cost that or more based on his performance from his 5 or so starting years in the NFL. The skins don't like draft picks, they like to sign and overpay free agents which if you have the money is not a bad route to take if you can get good team play out of them. Unfortunately for them Snyder and Gibbs have not been able to figure that out, even with the highest paid coaching staff in the NFL.
Don't think that they are gonna play ball on that deal, or even a better one.
And I think they will still suck next year, or as long as Campbell and/or Brunell are their QB
-
In this past weeks issue there was a picture of 8-9 top draftees of the upcoming draft. Three things were notable to me
1. Obokye (sp?) was a lot smaller than I would have thought.
2. AP was beastly, that guy has a huge upper body
3. Calvin Johnson without pads on was the most impressive, that guy is absolutley cut. I would love to have him opposite of Lee Evans, even in the Atrain was all we got at RB.
-
without the injury I would take him. If the donkeys are dropping him, he must be pretty run out because their defensive front 7 are already in rough shape.
-
tip, have you been drinking tonight?

Give Big John a shot, we hardly know him yet. If Whitner, Simpson, Williams, Ellison are excelllent picks maybe MCcargo (sp) will be a good DT when healthy and with a little experience. I have a hard time believing that we traded up for trash to be thrown out the first chance some vet comes across the wire.
-
I know that we would all like it to happen much earlier, but I don't think any of this is going to happen until draft day. I hope that the Bills brass is patient and waits to see how those first 10 picks pan out before pulling the trigger.
-
Nope. That's because I'm uncoordinated, legally blind, and 94 years old.
(But I have good character.)
But do you have a high motor and are you relentless? If so TD will draft you and MK Jr. will love you.
-
With all due respect, this could be the reason that you're the last guy on the bench.
-
I got 7 wins and agree with some others here, that schedule is nasty and we are going to have to show a lot on this D to stay in a lot of these games. How come we get two years in a row of one of the tougher schedules in the NFL?

I'm sure Marv is thinking:
"There are a LOT of dumb fuc#ers posting crap on the Internet when they know nothing of what's going on."
"Oh, and that The Dean guy is very astute...but a bit of a dick, dontcha think?"
Oh man, this made me laugh.
What is up with the trippy Dean changing face?

I know that we desperately need a RB1, but I am really skeptical that Turner "The Burner" would end up being any different than the already mentioned Lamont Jordan when he moved into a starting role with the Raiders. Is it possible that this is fool's gold and we are reaching at straws in hopes that he can be a full time RB? All this within the context of his being in a very effective running offense in SD, and spelling LT (hence the bloated stats).
Does anyone have a line on a game that he started and played 4 quarters? This has the scent of RJ at the RB position to me.
-
This would be a horrendously stupid move.
Remember LaMont Jordan, famed backup of Curtis Martin?
What happened to him when he had to carry the running load for a team?
jack squat
I was just thinking the same exact thing.
-
very maddenesque and slightly confusing, but I really don't see the Bills making that many moves. We don't need that many players and there are high quality options available without all that movement.
-
How pissed would the fans of the Bills be if we gave an 8 Million dollar bonus to our average QB and pledged commitment to him, then a year later turned around and traded 2 second round picks and moved down three spots in the top ten of draft to acquire an unproven 6td, 6int QB???

????????????????????????
WTF is talking about? Wait til he sees his property tax bill on his 2 car garage, 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, $175K home near Buffalo.

I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
I said to that undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see here go
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
I went back home, my home was lonesome
Missed my mother, she was gone
All of my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and lone
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
We sang the songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that mother maybelle taught us
Hear the angels sing along
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

Dean, you are rapidly moving up my favorite posters board. I was thinking more "When the Man Comes Around" Johnny Cash
"And I heard as it were the noise of thunder
One of the four beasts saying come and see and I saw
And behold a white horse"
There's a man going around taking names and he decides
Who to free and who to blame every body won't be treated
Quite the same there will be a golden ladder reaching down
When the man comes around
The hairs on your arm will stand up at the terror in each
Sip and each sup will you partake of that last offered cup
Or disappear into the potter's ground
When the man comes around
[CHORUS]
Hear the trumpets hear the pipers one hundred million angels singing
Multitudes are marching to a big kettledrum
Voices calling and voices crying
Some are born and some are dying
Its alpha and omegas kingdom come
And the whirlwind is in the thorn trees
The virgins are all trimming their wicks
The whirlwind is in the thorn trees
It's hard for thee to kick against the pricks
Till Armageddon no shalom no shalom
Then the father hen will call his chicken's home
The wise man will bow down before the thorn and at his feet
They will cast the golden crowns
When the man comes around
Whoever is unjust let him be unjust still
Whoever is righteous let him be righteous still
Whoever is filthy let him be filthy still
Listen to the words long written down
When the man comes around

This thread has now come full circle, Cincy - sorry I forgot about you and SDS and Pyrite (pirate) Gal and obviously Six Pack out in the beginning. I guess that my main point was not to have a "let's remember the old days or good ol' days" conversation. Rather just getting back to a slightly more relevant and intelligent Bills talk.
The circle is now complete
-
At this point I think that I would just take having a FB on the roster.
-
You have
4 years and 23 million guesses why the texans won't take adrian peterson.
Not only that but Kubiak is a Shannahan disiciple and has never been big on taking 1st rd rb's. I also am pretty sure Domanick Davis is still on the texans roster.
And I love Davis, he was on my FFl two years ago. He is a question mark that he can make it back and especially with Green on the roster. So if the Browns pass and the Texans pass do the Bills really have a chance at AP?
-
Well for starters I wont give you a mock but starting with the most critical need
Rb-
Right now it's painfuly obvious we have no "upgrade" to willis mcgahee. Despite LSI Cadets unwaivering faith in the Atrain. Shaud Williams at best is a 3rd down/situational type back. He lacks size and speed and hands. He has good quickness to turn the corner though. Not someone you can rely on in a rbbc. I dont know much about the guy from NFLE, but I highly doubt that he's the future. Someone with knowledge about nfle can help you with that.
This is a area that will most likely be addressed via the draft. While my prefrence is large and away the guy in my avatar my 2nd choice would be draftin antonio pittman or michael bush in the 2nd or 3rd rd and picking best available corner or lb depending on what the bills feel the bigger need is.
LB-
With the unsurity of spikes due to injury and unconfidence that crowell can man the middle and only 6th rd pick Keith Ellison at the other lb spot this will be addressed. I will just say that this position in paticular becomes a non need if keith ellison continues to progress, spikes pull a julian peterson and crowell turns out to be a solid mike backer. Due to cato june signing with tampa and the free agent crop weak. Unless you like someone like Kawika Mitchell. IMHO he's too slow in coverage, not a great tackler nor good at blitzing or causing fumbles. This area will also be addressed via the draft early. Depending what the bills feel they need more a mlb or olb we'll see. I'm leaning towards mlb myself.
Cb- After rb this is my biggest area of concern for the bills. Not just because ashton youboty didnt play much last year, but because for the past few years I've watched terrence mcgee repeatedly get beat like a drum and get praised because he's seen so much "making plays". He's overmatched at 5'9 by most #2 receivers in the league. I just see this becoming increasingly more evident when he's matched up week to week with teams #1 and just for a preview some of the wr's he plays this year include To, Plaxico Burress, Donte Stallworth, Coles, Santana Moss, Chad Jackson, Braylon Edwards, and Javon Walker. Feeling comfortable with that thought? Theres a few decent corners that we can get up the 3rd rd. As long as the corner isn't leon hall.
Free Agency-
As far as free agency goes I'm hoping the bills sign no one else other then their own free agents. Specificaly Andre Davis. He's a great gunner on st's and unlike sam aiken at least offers some aspect of a receiving threat. I've never been one to believe in all out spending sprees for free agnecy prefering instead to build a team via the draft while using free agency as a means for a depth. 1 guy however I wouldnt mind is detroit lb boss bailey. He has some injury issues but great speed and would be cheap to sign. If he can manage to stay healthy would be a coo. I doubt it would make a dent salary cap wise if we went after him. That's really it though.
THE DRAFT-
The most critical need on this team is without a doubt in my mind runningback. I feel more comfortable about the situations at lb/dt/corner then I do about rb. They may just be prospects at those positions, but I'm more comfortable with the unknown of John McCargo, Keith Ellison and Crowell improving and Ashton Youboty then I am about Anthony Thomas.
The a-train played hard last year, but he offers a limited scope of attibutes. He's not real shifty or elusive. Although at time he tries to be. Watch him he doesn't run thru the hole as much as people think he does instead prefering to make a cut to try to get to the corner. However he generally doesnt have the speed for this. He does have decent hands. Is a nice little check down option but wont do much with the ball in his hands. Has no breakaway speed. The one aspect of his game that is good is his vision. He can read blocks well.
All in all Anthony thomas is an ideal #2 back. He'll never be the main horse and for good reason. Getting a rook with potential to be the guy. Someone like Peterson, Lynch, Bush,Pittman and have them split carries with the train and slowly bringing the rook along more and more as the season goes on would be the best way to go about it. Give the rook a chance to learn the nuances such as blitz pickup, properly reading blocks, and running routes. They made a decision to get something for willis and as it stands now with to be seen results in the future. For now I hope the bills know what they're doing.
Good insight, Thanks
