These above 2 clips were first time listens for me. I am a fan of the blues genre so Buddy Guy was right in my wheelhouse. The Dire Straits ws a nice surprise. That is one band I have never listened to that much. My main memory was Live Aid and "The Sultans of Swing". I have heard Mr Knopfler is a guitar virtuoso by reputation. This clip proves it. I hear "sultans of swing" type riffs in this. The solos are a bit similar sounding to me. Interesting thanks 🙂
If you weren't too familiar with Knopfler you can consider yourself lucky because there is SO MUCH to explore. He plays many different styles and has songs from countless genres. I wouldn't know where to start with examples. His post Dire Straits catalog is better (in my opinion) than his Dire Straits work, which itself is amazing and hopelessly underrated.
I don't really know what to recommend. Just explore if you're inclined. You may want to start with an album called Shangri-La. He also did a whole album of duets with EmmyLou Harris which is a lot of fun. You can't miss really. I find if you listen to one of his records several times, the song you liked the least at first becomes the song you like the most. There is a lot to his music that gets missed initially.
He's an amazing guitarist that I'd put with anyone and somehow he is an even better songwriter. Most of his songs are about everyday people. Some are about famous people or semi-famous people (Ray Kroc, Sonny Liston, Mason and Dixon). Below is one about Wile E. Coyote (yes) and one of his go-to live songs called Hill Farmer's Blues. The intro to that one is from the soundtrack of Cal. His more famous soundtracks are from The Princess Bride and Local Hero.

Ah, the dying young
Well I'm not done
You watch me and I'll watch thee
I can still work for two men
And drink for threeAnd I raise my flask
To the clearing skies
To you, sweepers
You carrion spies
To scavenge and survive
If you can do it so can I -
I know all the people there's nobody new
Soon we'll be leaving with the same old crew
On the green water the tumbling sea
They ain't running like the good old days
Time's just slipping down the old slipways
In the dock so dear to me
Dark is the night
I need a guiding light to keep me
From foundering on the rocks
My only prayer
Is just to see you there at the end
Of my wandering back in the dock -
Well, I'd sooner forget, but I remember those nights
Yeah, life was just a bet on a race between the lights
You had your head on my shoulder, you had your hand in my hair
Now you act a little colder like you don't seem to careBut just believe in me, baby, and I'll take you away
From out of this darkness and into the day
From these rivers of headlights, these rivers of rain
From the anger that lives on the streets with these names
'Cause I've run every red light on memory lane
I've seen desperation explode into flames
And I don't want to see it againFrom all of these signs saying, "Sorry, but we're closed"
All the wayDown the Telegraph Road

Oh the iron will and the iron hand
In England's green and pleasant land
No music for the shameful scene
That night they said it had even shocked the queenWell alas we've seen it all before
Knights in armour, days of yore
The same old fears and the same old crimes
We haven't changed since ancient times -
Now a year has passed and things have changed
Your spirit's returned from whence it came
Still the ocean sounds the same
And the trees whisper your name
And they whisper words you once said to me
"We have time, love, life is long"
So now I walk this path of memories
Reach for your spirit and join you in song
Life is long, love, life is long
Life is long, love, life is long
We have time, love, we have time
Life is long, love, life is long- 2

A three-chord symphony crashes into space
The moon is hanging upside down
I don't know why it is I'm still on the case
It's a ravenous town
You still refuse to be traced
Seem to me such a waste
Every victory has a taste that's bittersweetAnd it's your face I'm a looking for
On every street- 1

What a set of pipes! No assistance needed...
Lesser known but not less talented. There are three songs. The second one is probably the only one anyone will recognize.

Taking advantage of the bye week
As a fan of the Bills and Padres (odd combo I know), this is a picture I like a lot. Someone tell me it’s a number 19 jersey to make the whole thing perfect.

solo her voice reminds me a bit of Haley Westenra who I love (but my speakers don't). Didn't recognize her from this group at first:
I had heard of the Jenny’s but only heard them after hearing Ruth solo. They have great voices that go very well together. Check out “Glory Bound”. Both Moody and Heather Massey are great lyricists. I originally found Ruth through her work with Mark Knopfler (unlikely but perfect duo). They each worked on albums of the other and toured together.

Studio version is more polished. This more soulful.
Good singer. Here is another:

100% awesome. You can be pretty sure you’re killing it when Clapton plays rhythm and ends up with a bewildered look on his face.

Agree 100%. The only other thing I could possibly envision is he paid McKenzie a chunk for it? I've heard of players approaching a player who's jersey number they want and offering them cash for the right to acquire their jersey number...but you're right, as a rookie, 6th round pick no less, approaching McKenzie for his # would take some brass cohones....
You’re all probably right about him not asking for the number, but I could have sworn I read it.
Regardless of that he is 19. Knowing what Gwynn meant to San Diego and to SDSU, my guess is it has something to do with his selection.

I don't think this is true. I believe the number change for McKenzie came prior to the draft
I swear I saw it somewhere but can’t find it. You’re probably right and maybe I just read it from someone else on here and assumed it was correct.
The articles I do find on the number change are form May 3, which is after the draft.

Unless a lot has changed, rookies do not get to request specific numbers… especially a guy who may not make the team. (I sure hope he does, but who knows.)
When McKenzie changed his number it was reported as being done at the punter's request.

Our new punter has number 19, (not a typical punter number at all nor his college number), which he apparently requested from McKenzie. Has anyone seen the back story on this? I have a guess but maybe @john wawrow can ask at camp if no one knows for sure.
Araiza is from San Diego and played at SDSU. Easily the greatest sports hero in that town (and a guy that is my all time favorite player in any sport) is Tony Gwynn. He wore 19 for the Padres. I think it has to be this but have not seen it reported. If so, it would be a weird but cool connection between my favorite team and player.

Now the sun's gone to hell and
The moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms -
Do you have a song you love and consider to be an all time great a la Stairway to Heaven or the like? It would be a song where maybe people would say "I've heard that", but that is not super famous or considered an all time great? I think there are a lot of songs in that category.
The one I'll link below has just about everything a song could have and you'll barely ever hear it on radio or hear it discussed. I'm guessing most of you have heard it but haven't heard it in quite a while. I doubt it appears on any published "greatest songs of all time" list (but I think it should). Post yours.

Here are my top 15 Dylan covers of all-time. Feel free to add some of your favs. I had to make some tough cuts.
Happy Birthday, Bob.
I'll throw in two that are about Dylan, written by someone known for guitar but largely unrecognized for his songwriting, which is on par with anyone. Anyone. He toured with Dylan a few years back and wrote these two about him. The first one sounds like a Dylan song to me. The second one is named for Dylan's tour bus. The whole record they're from, Tracker, is full of beautifully written songs.

You walk out on the high wire
You're a dancer on thin ice
You pay no heed to the danger
And less to advice
Your footsteps are forbidden
But with a knowledge of your sin
You throw your love to all the strangers
And caution to the wind
