  1. Only got a couple of hours sleep. This is unbelievably fantastic news. I'm happy that our country has finally killed this <explicative> and that the families of lost love ones relating to that tragic day can feel some sense of payback that this slug finally got got.

Just as we grieved as one almost ten years ago, let all Americans celebrate as one today... USA USA USA!!!!

  2. Fitz's play last year could have been an anomaly, but how can anyone honestly say after all of his accomplishments, he doesn't deserve a chance to prove he has "franchise" talent. Talent comes in many forms. It's not all completion percentages and touchdown/interception ratios. There have been a lot of people writing him off, but my belief is that he has as much of a chance as any rookie coming out of college. If he takes this team deep into the playoffs and they don't win the big game I can just here the criticism ahead of time. It'll all be because of the lack of a "franchise" QB. Some people are just born pessimists and can't help themselves.

What Fitzpatrick has to do is to take the next step up and start pulling out wins for the Bills against the good teams like the Patriots and Jets. That's what Kelly did to win over teammates and fans, and that's what he has to do in 2011.

Before the Ravens game, I was the first one to propose that he could be a late blooming franchise guy. His 12 point jump in QB rating only solidified my thought that our guy just might be already here.

He's got a one year audition and I can't wait to see if he can do it.

  3.

    9. Michael Jasper, DT, Bethel TN. A mountain of a man with incredible agility for his size. All I can say is WOW. He is most definitely a project and may not even make the team. That being said though, if our coaching staff can turn him into a real space eating 3-4 NT, this defense is going to put the fear of God into opposing offenses. This guy has played at well over 430 pounds and has dropped below 380 since. If he is strong enough and smart enough, he could turn into the biggest steal in this draft. It is considered a very tall order at this point, but stranger things have happened. Right?

Mountain? Dude's the size of a small planet!...LOL

  4. The only thing I will say in Maybin's favor is that he came out early and that might have hurt him. He may not have been physically ready for the NFL, not to mention mentally! If he grows up and fills out some and gets his attitude right he may amount to something. But I wouldn't bet on it.

    PTR

Kelvin Sheppard is OLDER than Aaron Maybin.

That tells you how young (and immature) of a player we drafted two whole years ago. I think Bills fans should relax with the trashing of Maybin and let's see what he does this his third training camp.

Maybin seems like a kid who should have stayed another year in school, but with idiots like Jauron who have no problem drafting such an immature (both physically and mentally) guy in the first round, who could blame him for striking when the iron was hot.

Let's hope Maybin somehow turns it around and becomes a big surprise for us.

  5. I believe Fitzpatrick's ceiling is somewhere below Drew Brees and above Eli Manning. Go ahead and mock me if you want. Last year, Fitzpatrick blew away Bills fans' perceived ceiling of his by throwing an eye popping 23 TDs in 13 games on a team with no running game or defensive turnover abilities. He scared the daylights out of the Ravens and Steelers defenses. Was this an anomaly or did a light switch go on? I think a light switch went on.

The beauty of the 2011 season is that we're all going to get to witness Fitzpatrick's audition for the Bills franchise QB roll. Because no matter what the doubters say, the guy DID make a huge improvement last year which suggests that he's even got more ceiling, and I'm talking about franchise QB level ceiling.

So while you'll never change the minds either way of fans who believe he's got the ceiling or not, in the end it'll be what he does on the field. This is what makes the 2011 season so exciting!

I think the 2011 Bills will look a lot like the 1987 Bills. At least that's what I'm hoping for. A team which is clearly on this rise and which will be ready to make some serious noise in 2012.

  6. McElroy couldn't have found a better spot to land than in the New York area. This guy's going to retire after five or so years as a backup and become an NFL media star as a commentator/analyst. Dude's so polished and relaxed in front of the camera.

  7. I likeTaylor, Gailey would find a use for him I'm sure.

Quarterbacks? We don't need no steen-keeeng quarterbacks!

I love love love Tyrod Taylor and really hope the Bills draft him. The guy has amazing pocket awareness. As soon as pressure comes, he moves away and creates space as if someone just pressed a madden speed burst button.

He's seems to be compared to Vick a lot. He's got Vick-like scrambling ability with less arm strength however he looks like he might have better decision-making/intangible ability in the passing game (as compared to when Vick was coming out).

His lack of height and cannon arm is why he's still on the board. There's three teams that I could see drafting him in the fourth round...Miami, Washington or Philly. I know it's a round higher than he should go, but I really hope the Bills pick Taylor at #100.

  8. I think we blew it here, and I'm a Fitz guy.

IMO the QBs in this class were way overrated. Lots of teams fell in love with grenades this year.

Fitzpatrick will prove to Bills fans that he's as good as Eli Manning. Which was obviously good enough to win the whole damn thing. That is if our defense and running game comes around finally.

  9. Something tells me that the Tom Brady/Ryan Mallett transition isn't going to be as seamless as the Brent Favre/Aaron Rogers.

Yes, Ryan Mallett has a GREAT arm...but I don't think he's got the psyche to deal with the pressure of following Tom Brady.

There's a reason why he went where he did, that boy's got some Jeff George and Ryan Leaf in him. Great arm, 2 cent head.

  10. Please God no. 34 is too valuable of a pick to use on a huge project like Kaepernick. We could get an instant starter on this team rather than spending the pick on a developmental QB. We didn't have our heads up our asses when we picked Dareus and I'd prefer we kept it that way for the rest of the draft.

I agree, Kaepernick would be kind of a luxury pick at this point (Kyle Rudolf is a luxury pick also). Yes, he's good some very good potential but how long is his development curve? Three years?

I think the Bills should take either Reed or Carter. Both fill a need and would be good fits for our team along with good value.

Let's finish the job of the front seven, or at least come close.

  11. IMO, the only QB in this draft who has franchise level ability is Newton. The rest of these guys look like mid round backup QB types. The reason why the Bills are in the position they are currently in right now is that they would pick mid level QBs too high in the draft in the hopes that they are smarter than everybody else (I.E. Losman, Edwards) and before you know it they have wasted six years on these shmucks.

If the Bills do pick Ponder either in the 2nd or trade up to the 1st, they'll be telling us fans that they still don't know what they are doing.

Let the other teams reach for these backup types which will push really good players to our picks in the top 100.

  12. Gabbert...

He may not be ready for a year or two...But I've been following this Draft thing for a bit now...And I've yet to see a guy come out with more of the total package than Gabbert and not go #1 Overall...If you built a QB from scratch and gave him all the attributes you desire he would look a heck of a lot like Blaine Gabbert...He's got it all when it comes to size, athletic ability, arm, leadership, drive, and he's well beyond smart...I think if he went back to School he would go #2 Overall in 2012...It's looking like he may go #6 Overall or later this year...Give this Kid a couple years under a REAL good Offensive Coach and you could get the next Aaron Rodgers...There is nothing holding him back besides the lack of experience...We'll see I guess... B-)

Well there's that and then there's also the thing about him having poor pocket presence, not handling defensive pressure well and his inability to get the ball in the endzone in his "money" year before going pro. We've been down the poor pocket presence road with Losman and Edwards.

If he won't be ready for another couple of years, what does that say about his decision making ability? What...he thought the NFL simply shouldn't have to wait one more year for Blaine Gabbert?

To me, Gabbert is by far the highest overrated prospect in this draft.

Sorry man, but I couldn't help get one last jab in on Gabbert before the draft. You can rip on Quinn if you want.

  13. Interesting take, and yes, the Bengals are historically frugal. However, my impression is that they aren't particularly smitten with Gabbert, but rather prefer both Ponder and Dalton.

As for 2nd round WRs, you're probably looking more towards Jon Baldwin, Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb, Titus Young, or Jerel Jernigan. I think Little is more in the 4th round area.

I too think that the Pats could use a pass rusher, so I thought about giving them Aldon Smith. However, I think that the defensive depth is greater than the OL depth, so that makes me think they'll go that route at 17. I was a bit confused by your statement, since Heyward and Jordan are more run-stuffing DEs than pass rushers, but nevertheless I see your point. If they want a pass rusher, they could grab Justin Houston, Akeem Ayers, Brooks Reed, or Jabaal Sheard at either 28 or 33. And as we've talked about, the 5-technique class is very deep, so there's always the chance they nab a guy like Christian Ballard or Adrian Clayborn at one of those spots as well.

Just as a matter of housecleaning, I had them taking Justin Houston at 33.

Could happen, but more and more I've been hearing that they want to trade out of that spot. That may just be pre-draft crappola, but right now I'm buying it. With the # of teams that want to move up for QBs, they may be able to net a pretty solid haul by moving down.

Nice to see your one last mock. It's amazing that the mock stuff is over now and it's finally go time. Man oh man, am I excited for tomorrow!

  14. A few thoughts...

The Bengals have no Plan B and would take Gabbert if he's there.IMO, they have too many needs to be trading back into rd 1 and won't pay 2 rookies rd 1 money. They can get a quality receiver in rd 2 like Little from NC.

The Pats are not leaving round one without a pass rusher and would probably take Heyward or Jordan at #17.

The Seahawks stay at #25 and pick a QB. They say they don't need one, but that's because they don't want someone dropping ahead of them to take a QB.

  15. The more I see of Cam Newton, the less I like.

More precisely, the more I see of Newton, the more I wonder what I am missing. Where is the wow? Where is the amazing pass, the incredible run, the special moment that makes me say, "Hey, I can overlook the fact that this guy is a scandal-ridden controversy magnet."

    read more here: http://footballoutsider.com/walkthrough/2011/walkthrough-cram-session

How about 50 TDs in one season, a national championship, a heisman trophy, all in the toughest conference and all the while being in the middle of a "scandal-ridden controversy" the whole season. That tells me this guy is mentally tough enough for the NFL. How about a guy with his talents in a league where you can no longer lay a hand on QBs without getting penalized.

If the Bills do pick Newton, the combination of him and Gailey just might be the game changing moment that sets in motion the Bills getting their first superbowl win in a few short years. I'm a huge Fitzpatrick fan, but even I'd become excited if they did draft Newton.

This guy is just parroting the haters who look at him and can only see Russell. I can see the Bills winning a superbowl with a QB that no defense can stop.

  16. The top five players on most lists don't include Newton either. Everyone is just assuming Carolina will take Newton at 1 - that's not the same as him being a top-five player. Most of what I've heard is the other four are the "top four".

Gabbert is listed higher than Newton on most lists. Quinn (who scares the hell out of me) and Prince Amukamara are in the next batch along with Julio Jones and Bowers.

Don't believe it. As I said previously, with new NFL rules where QBs are off limits, Newton's talents are a game changer. I think a lot of teams who like him tried like heck to downgrade him using their "anonymous" team officials giving poor reports to the NFL draft experts. Hoping that he'd fall to them.

A Newton and Gailey pairing would be something special.

  17. As long as they remain in the top 10, I think I'd set the starting bid at a 2nd round pick. Obviously, you'd try to get more out of them, and I think they probably could, but given that I don't see a huge separation between the talent at pick 3 and at pick 10, I'd strongly consider it even if a 2nd was the only offer I received.

But then that 2nd round pick will forever be judged by you passing on the perceived blue chip player. That's scary. That's why it needs to be much more.

Here's a scenario, what if Newton's gone and the Bills get calls for a team wanting Gabbert ahead of the Bengals? Do they tell the Bengals and then try to get the Bengals 3rd or next year's 2nd to flip firsts? Would they try to bluff them if there are no calls for Gabbert?

The Bills just might be in the best spot of this draft.

  18. The closer this draft gets, the more I think the Bills will be having many offers to trade out of their pick no matter who is left at #3. Does anyone else sense that the Bills will become the first trade spot attempt for teams. What is your price to pass on one of the big three Newton, Dareus or Miller?

My bottom line price is first, the team must be picking in the top 10. Then they should get that teams' 1st of course, their 2nd of this year and next year's 1st.

The reason I think the Bills will have a bounty of offers is not only the perceived "blue chip" three but that the Bengals have no real "Plan B" other than picking Blaine Gabbert. I don't believe the Bengals/Green rumors at all, and if don't believe them then you know NFL teams don't either. So you'll have calls for both Dareus and Gabbert, or both Miller and Gabbert. I won't put Newton's name in because I think the Bills are picking him if he's there, so they don't trade out IMO.

  19. Everyone knows that I'm one of Fitzpatrick's hugest supporters here, but even I would be very excited if the Bills were to draft Newton. Why? Because I think Cam Newton paired with Chan Gailey is a game changer. The rules added to limit the hits on QBs alone will make Newton a tremendous threat, maybe the likes of which the NFL has ever seen.

If you're afraid he's got the right stuff, to my knowledge this guy went though through the most mid-season scrutiny of any college player yet still had 50 TDs (passes and rushing), won the national championship, and won the heisman trophy. People seem to forget what a microscope he was under. Think Mallet would have stood up to that? Gabbert? He had only 16 TDs so what was his excuse for pitiful numbers like that? Imagine if he was scrutinized on that level and yet produced only 16 TDs? He'd seriously be considered a failure like Locker currently is.

The Panthers passing on Newton just might be the Bills' fastest ticket to winning the Superbowl. If the Panthers pass on Newton, fasten your safety belts...
