10-6, unlikely but hey might as well be optimistic.

  2. Lynch was suspended 3 games not 4. I think he also only had 10 days from when he got his suspension to appeal. we never heard whether he appealed or not.

    Per Tim Graham:

Players have 20 days to notify the league they want to appeal a suspension during the offseason, 10 days during the season. But the appeal happens at a much later date.

I spoke with Lynch's people a while ago, and they said they had notified the league. Now we wait.

  3. You don't hear about LB'ers having to gel, or about the DLine having to gel, you don't hear about Safeties having to gel, you don't hear about QB/WR/RB having to gel, it's always about the offensive line.

I wanted to know what --pertaining specifically to the offensive line and their duties-- makes this heralded gelling process so darn important.

Sorry if this thread annoyed and/or got a rise out of you, but if you did read the thread, you'd know that it's NOT just as simple as "TIME TOGETHER."

I'm well aware of the importance of team cohesion.

Actually you will hear the whole gelling thing about the QB/WR's often, about the RB's when pass blocking with the line, and about the secondary.

It is not just a offensive line type thing, even if it may be the most important for them, and imo "time together" might not be the whole thing but it is most of it.

  4. I like Steve Johnson. Yes, I realize he has very little experience, but he's just one of those guys you get a sense is something special. He made the most of his slim opportunities. Kinda of makes me wonder why the coaching staff didn't work him in sooner and more frequently, but whatever -- I think this guy is going to be a real contributor this year.

I doubt that they have better speed than Coles. Sure, he lost a step but he used to be one of the fastest WR's in the game, surely he is not much slower now.

  5. I can't understand why you never liked the guy. We don't need height necessarily on the other side just someone to command attention, to free up our deep threat in Evans. A guy with height is usually what fits this bill, but sometimes a guy of Coles stature is tough enough to command the needed attention. To be the #2 with a speed threat on the opposite side you must be a threat over the middle, be willing to take a hit, be a good route runner that finds the holes in a defense, and have the hands to make catches while getting hit. These are the things Coles does great. He makes perfect sense.

He is 31 and and he is very durable. Missed 4 games in 8 years.

Exactly. Size is always wanted yes, but it is more about knowing how to use your size and your body. Look at Hardy, he doesn't use his frame and that is why he has been ineffective for us. Coles will attract attention away from Evans, which is exactly what we need. Josh Reed is a good number 3 and he might of put up some numbers as a number 2 but he could not take doubles off of Evans because he was simply not that good in the position. As posted above, we have a solid 1, 3 and 4, why not get a solid 2 for now. I understand that some people have blind faith in Steve and Hardy but they are not ready to be a number 2, and there is no proof that they will be. Get Coles and allow them to develop and potentially become the number 2 when/if they are ready.

Also, he has been injured one time in his career, why is everyone saying he is not durable? Come on now.
