  1. I think we solve a lot of our issues by moving to a 4-3. Dareus and Williams at DT would be menacing you couldn't double both guys. The switch would also provide a boost to pass coverage. Our CBs wouldn't be on an island when we didn't get to the QB. The safety help a 4-3 provides would be huge, especially keeping a ballhawk like Byrd back there to make plays

The second half of your post is talking about going C2, which has nothing to do with 4-3 or 3-4 whatsoever. Also, C1 or C2, Byrd, being the FS, is going to be the deep help almost every play anyway. The only difference is if he's defending the middle or a half.

  2. Re: Shawne... Let him come back, see how he does in training camp an preseason and go from there.

    Ditto with Roscoe.

If we don't have better players, then why cut these guys?

    Exactly.

People want to cut players because they are injury prone or just average players all the time, but the thing we need on this team above all else is talent and depth.

By cutting our "average" players we are essentially making our below-average backups into starters and making our backups completely unknown prospects who rarely ever pan out for us, deflating our talent level and depth even more.

  3. Soooo... he breaks his wrist after falling eight feet out of the air then he sustains a bad ankle injury, but he's always getting hurt because he's small...

    Yup.

And we should part ways with him in spite of the fact of how well he was working in Chans system last year, and in spite of the fact he's one of our most sure-handed receivers...

    Yup.

Well he is injury prone at this point, but that is no reason not to sign him on the cheap and get him back in camp next year. He is a weapon in this offense when healthy, and that alone is worth giving him a shot. Whose roster spot does he take up...one of the scrub WR's who shouldn't even be on a 53 man NFL roster, yup, big loss there :x

  4. What do you see about Gabbert that troubles you? He seems to have all the tools. From what I have heard about him he is a student of the game and he is known for his diligent preparation. While Rob Johnson seemed to be somewhat aloof BG appears to have more passion and personality.

I go back and forth on taking Gabbert or Newton. I view Gabbert as a more polished player. One analyst views him as a Rodgers type qb. However, at times I lean back toward the more unconventional Newton. Very often the "it" factor term is used with the qb position. In all the Auburn games I watched this year (at least five) Newton stood out. Not only was he the best player on the field but he was the most impactful player. The Alabama game stood out for me. A stellar Alabama defense couldn't stop him.

You are not alone who thought RJ was going to be a very good qb. But I'm not publicly stating what my thoughts were about him at the time. As it stands my credibility is lacking. I can't afford to diminish what little I have left. So I will give you a "no comment" on what my original thoughts were on RJ.

They both have issues. If I had to pick one I would go with Cam.

Gabbert is a more polished player, like you have said. However, he gets skiddish and seems to really feel the pressure as it closes in on him, and not in a good way. Nix stated that the biggest thing he looks at with a QB is if they can hit the tight window while being pressured, and from watching 3 of his games I personally think that he will not be a great QB because he gets nervous when pressured.

I see some issues with Newton as well, mainly mechanics. He has a good throwing motion, but seemingly half his throws he isn't set for, he has terrible footwork, and he seems to use his talent to bail him out of using proper form since it works for him most of the time. The reason I would be okay with drafting him is because he would be ideally sat for at least a season, in which he could hopefully learn to plant for every throw, and learn to be consistent enough with the form that his talent will allow him to hit all the windows with a much lesser risk of a ball sailing or dipping on him. His freelance type play can be considered an asset when on the run however, so I am more talking about while he is in the pocket than out of it. I did notice he will rush a throw at times in order to avoid being hit, but that can be changed. It is not an issue of getting Skiddish like Gabbert. As for making reads and such, I'll leave that to Gailey to decide this Monday. If Cam is on the board for pick #3, I have a feeling the meeting on this Monday will go a long way in if he is picked or not.

  5. Coach doesn't strike me as worrying about the future as much as win today at all costs. Auburn has been reckless in game strategy, recruiting etc.... May haunt them long term. Even if he knew cam was hurt I think he'd call his number- he's done with him tonight whether or not he can walk off the field!

Sorry, I like a lot of the auburn players, love the brand of football but don't much like the staff from what i know.

I understand that, but it was fairly clear that keeping the ball in Newton's hands, especially as a runner, was not as good of a strategy as handing the ball off to running backs once he got hurt. The coach is going to do whatever to win, and I agree that he likely thought keeping the ball in his hands was what he thought was best, but it wasn't.

  6. Before the "long table interview" with the coach, Cam, and others, the ESPN announcer reported that Cam went to the stadium x-ray facility to have a quick xray on "an undisclosed" part of his body. No further information at this time. I hate to think this way, but is this just a quick way for Cam to sidestep some of his mistakes (underthrown wide open receiver in endzone, fumble, lethargic running) and say "Hey, I was playing injured". I hope that is not the case, but it seems in this day and age, I have a negative outlook on the motivations of players (i.e. this Bowl game may have hurt Cam's draft rank/spot...did he need to try and explain his average performance by getting a quick xray?)

The current line on the xray being negative in Vegas is 2:1. Any takers???

When he lowered his shoulder on a first down run he hurt his back and you could tell it affected him the rest of the game. He didn't run as hard, showed body language that it was hurting, and on one play he went down early on a designed run because he did not want to be hit. I don't think his coach even realized because he kept calling his number even though he wasn't fit to go, be it physically or mentally because of the pain, and it almost ended up costing them the game when Matthews forced the fumble on Newton. I don't know how bad it really was but I am certain he was in pain.

  7. Example #43902 of why the Bills are the worst franchise in all of professional sports: Marshawn Lynch.

1st good game of the season for him. I understand your upset that he is playing well tonight but if you look at it from a whole and unemotional position the trade still doesn't look that bad.

  8. So basically we just dont know if the bills pick #3 or #4???

Good research, Ill take it from you,... #3 it is....

Hope fully better than out last #3,,..OT from Texas

You mean #4, we have never picked from the 3rd spot until now.

  9. He looks really good to me right now. He blows up the offensive line on just about every play. Very disruptive...and a little quicker than I thought. Dareus would definitely help to improve our run defense.

Same. He will have trouble containing if forced to as a 3-4 DE though imo but once we get some OLB's that won't really matter. He is really impressing me so far.

Once he is out of the play he doesn't really pursuit at all, and on the fumble 10 minutes ago you could see that he didn't really hustle to try to get the ball. Not big issues but worth noting.

  10. I saw some good things, some bad. USF played with an offensive gameplan that was intended to neutralize Clemson's D-line, and it worked for the most part. Screens, quick reads, etc. all made Bowers fairly ineffective in this game but it was not so much a showing of him not being the player he is rated to be. I'll need to watch more tape on him and on some of the other top D-line prospects(not impressed at all with Clayborne though- not the player he was last season imo) but I would still be okay with us taking him at the moment.

  11. Again, they may have fielded offers and had discussions leading up to draft day. You should have a pretty good idea of who is looking for what, and what they are willing to deal by then. Particularly with the 1st round pick.

On draft day, I'd still prefer they take time and just pretend they are looking at all the options, even if they aren't.

I agree, but I think he is referring to how Nix stated that he does not like to move around during a draft and how it is rare for him to do so. He said this before the draft, to the media.

  12. This kid has a cannon. He looks confident and is accurate downfield. I've noticed that he isn't very elusive and if there isn't max protect he tends to get skiddish. Missou plays strictly out of a spread shotgun, so there would be a transition period, but his ceiling is very high based off his measurables and arm.

Last night he put up 434 yards passing versus a good Iowa defense. 1 passing TD, 1 rushing TD with 2 INTS. 1 of those INTS should have been a TD as it hit the WR between the numbers, bounced out of his hands and was picked off.

He very well could be the second QB off the board. He's like Locker with a better more accurate arm.

I agree, but he gets more skiddish than I care for. He absolutely folds under pressure as he doesn't stand strong when the pressure is coming at him and based on how he even flinches away from contact while releasing the ball I don't see that changing. I'll pass. Talent is there but I think he will bust behind our line.

  13. I said this after the game, when they showed that replay, they only highlighted the two receivers that were covered (to make their point). What they didn't talk about was how Parrish was open TWICE on that play. First, in the middle of the field, then again streaking down the sideline when Trent was scrambling.

I don't care if we lose this week, but boy am I glad I don't half to watch Trent.

They circled 3 of the 4, but you are correct, the 4th WR was absolutely open on multiple occasions. Not circling made him look like a defender and made another WR look like he was covered when he was also open enough to be thrown to.
