  1. Winfield is playing very well in Minni -- scratch that -- he was palying well -- his ankle is screwed up now. I agree that we got the better end of the deal. We have linebackers who can tackle the running back. We need someone who can cover top receivers -- McGee is getting to that point already.

  2. Williams, Jennings and ( GASP !  :D  ) Vincent are listed as probable for Sunday.

Troy better play -- think he could have gone last week? My thinking that MM decided to hold him out to be safe and also to not mess with the defensive team chemisty. But, Baker got burnt too many times -- if Troy can play, he better!

  3. WEEK 14:

    Bills over Browns

    Dolphins over Broncos

    Giants over Ravens

    Bears over Jaguars

    Steelers over Jets

    WEEK 15:

    Bills over Bengals

    Packers over Jaguars

    Chiefs over Broncos

    Colts over Ravens

    Seahawks over Jets

    Steelers over Giants

    WEEK 16:

    Bills over 49ers

    Titans over Broncos

    Texans over Jaguars

    Steelers over Ravens

    Patriots over Jets

    WEEK 17:

    Bills over Steelers

    Colts over Broncos

    Raiders over Jaguars

    Rams over Jets

    Dolphins over Ravens

    49ers over Patriots

To finish ahead of the the Jaguars, Jacksonville needs to lose at least one game. To beat out the Ravens, Baltimore needs to lose at least two games. The Broncos need to lose at least two games. And the Jets need to lose all of their remaining four games. Of course, four out five of these teams need to lose the perscribed number of games, or the Bills will be stuck shoveling snow in January.

The only Bengals game that really matters is Week 15 -- either the Bills beat them and knock them out, or they beat us and knock us out.

  4. Army opens new investigation into 'friendly fire' death of Pat

    Tillman

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Army has opened a new investigation into the friendly fire death in Afghanistan of Pat Tillman, who quit the NFL to be a Ranger, officials said Dec. 6.

Army officials said Tillman's family sought additional information about circumstances of his April 22 death, but the fundamental account of the battle in which he was killed is not being challenged.

"The family asked questions, and we're looking to get answers to the questions," said Army spokesman Paul Boyce. Officials declined to be more specific.

The Army's Special Operations Command, based at Fort Bragg, N.C., is conducting the investigation, said command spokeswoman Carol Darby.

Then-acting Army Secretary Les Brownlee ordered the new investigation in mid-November based on the family's questions, Army officials said.

The results of original Army investigation were released on May 29.

It found that Tillman was shot to death on April 22 after a U.S. soldier mistakenly fired on a friendly Afghan soldier in Tillman's unit, and other U.S. soldiers then fired in the same direction.

Initial reports by the Army had suggested that Tillman was killed by enemy gunfire when he led his team to help another group of ambushed soldiers.

Tillman, 27, left his position as a starting safety for the Arizona Cardinals to join the Army after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. He was posthumously promoted from specialist to corporal and received posthumously a Purple Heart and Silver Star. The latter is among the military's highest honors, awarded for gallantry on the battlefield.

No soldiers faced judicial action as a result of his death, but several were disciplined, Darby said. One enlisted soldier faced formal administrative charges, and four more Rangers, including an officer, were transferred from the elite Ranger force to elsewhere in the Army. Two more officers were reprimanded, she said.

The military would not release additional details because the disciplinary actions were administrative, Darby said.

  5. no

he was on our 53 man roster for enough games last year to accrue a season

... but I watched the movie Rudy and it said Rudy wouldn't be considered a real member of the Irish until he played at least one play!

Hell, it was worth a shot. :w00t:

  6. I'm surprised nobody mentioned the drubbing we gave Miami in 1987.

It was at home in November, about a month after we got Cornelius Bennett. I remember the giddiness we were all feeling after that trade, and after Bennett's first game against Denver when he was all over the place.

But the real coming of age was the game against Miami in November, when the Bills thrashed the Dolphins 27-0. It was amazing. They built a 21-0 lead by halftime, and cruised the rest of the way. But completely shutting out the hated Dolphins was awesome. You could tell we had a young team that was going to be capable of great things.

I honestly didn't see your post until after I sumbitted mine. It was a great a$$ whipping!

  7. Late November 1987 in Buffalo. The Bills became the first team to ever shut the fish out. Jim Kelly was finally coming around. They used the game, which featured outstanding play by rookies Shane Conlon and Cornelius Bennett, to springboard into 1988 and the glroy years. It was a glimpse of what was to come. It was a special game also because the start of the season had been horrid being the strike year.

  8. Been deployed twice in the last three years. Each time I received letters asking for Marines to write back. Got to tell you -- there are times when it is real hard to find a moment or the energy to write back. I know that sounds selfish, but it is hard to describe what I mean.

That said, I say include the address, but try not to ask for a letter back too hard. There are plenty of soldiers and Marines who want to write back and will, but it may take a while, and it may not be that many.

One big tip -- troops need a laugh. They'll be a lot more likely to hold onto the cards and eventually write back if the card is funny. I don't mean buy a funny card. I mean let the kids draw a picture of Osama tied to tree starving to death. Yeah, its morbid, but I still have copies of cards like that. Let the kids write things like "I hope the terrorists get the plague and die before they can plant anymore bombs" Etc.

A good place for the return addresses is on the back of each card. It is subtle, but the soldier/Marine will know...

I'm not on active-duty right now, but thanks for supporting the troops over there. The holidays are a real tough time to be away, but it is important to do things like letter writing in the time of the not-so-special times of the year, too. There will be somewhere along the lines of 150,000 pounds of letters from school-age children going to Iraq and Afghanistan this holdiay season, but less than 10,000 pounds in February, and even less in March.

  9. Washington Post:

Stanford University has requested permission from the San Diego Chargers to speak to their wide receivers coach, James Lofton, about the school's vacant head coaching job. The Hall of Fame wideout played at Stanford and has a son, David, now playing at the school. Stanford also has had preliminary discussions with representatives for Jim Fassel, the former Giants coach who's serving as a consultant to the Baltimore Ravens this season. Fassel is a former Stanford assistant who worked with John Elway at the school, but might want to focus on trying to land another NFL head-coaching job. . . .

Link -- near the bottom of the page.

Did the Bills show any interest in getting Lofton to coach the WRs in Buffalo? He's doing a nice job with the receiving corps in San Diego. Good for him all around!

  10. He also wrote:

"He's got big-time streaks of inconsistency, but (Buffalo second-year cornerback Terrence) McGee looks like he can be a player. And I'm not just talking about kickoff returns and special teams."

I have to agree. McGee has me thinking he's going to be a very good corner as he continues to learn.

  11. i dont think we can beat the stealers, but they should already be in the playoffs, and might be resting people.

    137232[/snapback]

Anyone who saw yesterday's Steelers/'Skins game knows the Bills can beat the Steelers in Buffalo. If a team can stop the run and put event he slightest pressure of Big Ben, they will crumble and leave the door open all day. Also, Pitt cannot stop the deep passes. I see big things for Lee Evans in that game -- as long as Drew can get the ball to him.

I agree with other posters that Denver will collapse. I also see the Jests letting a couple slip away that shouldn't. The playoff picture is much more open than it appears right now.

  12. There has to be more to Hasselbeck's injury than a "charlie horse." Even if he starts, the Bills have generated a passrush lately, so we can figure Hasselbeck will get hit plenty. I don't think he'll be able to take it.

No one can dispute that Sean Alexander is among the top three backs in the league, but the Seahawks cannot win when they are forced to only run.

The main bonus is that with this injury Seattle will have to split reps among its QBs this week.

Here is my stance going into Thanksgiving: if the Bills can pull it off in Seattle, they can run the table and possibly make the playoffs.

    That was me.
