1. Indeed - very difficult at 6 and 7.  Clearing the table gets them to  9 - 7 and sticking pins into voodoo dolls.

Do you expect them to say "gee, the odds are so bad, let's lay down against the Bills." ?

    161154

Of course not. I do expect them to somewhat understand there is no hope for the playoffs and thus realize there is no reason to play Palmer and risk their future.

Really, I think the Bengals will play very tough and with a lot of pride. They have every reason to hate the Bills, and I'm sure they want to finish above .500.

  3. I know that I will get blasted for this, but I rank Fletcher ever so slightly above Talley.

    160223

No blasting coming from me, but I'd like to remind you how, as Talley himself described, his eyes woudl change color come the fourth quarter. The D back then would pick off perfecet passses, block kicks, just rip the ball from running backs, whatever it took to get a win. The D back then knew how to ensure a win.

  4. Dontcha think that they were a tad light up front?

Btw, I would take Spikes/Fletcher over Bennett/Talley. They seem WAY tougher to run on, but then again, they ARE playing behind Big Sam.

    Tough call.

    160194

Any linebacker playing behind Pat and Sam is going to look at least 20 percent better than he really is. They may be the best D-tackle-duo in history.

  5. I think the Super Bowl D was better. Sorry everyone. I really enjoy watching this year's D, but there is no Bruce Smith. I also think Biscuit and Talley were a better team than Takeo and London. Lenord Smith (only SB 25, I believe) was as good as Lawyer. Nate Odoms was as good or better than Nate Clements. Shane Conlan, Mark Kelso, Jeff Wright, etc., were all great.

Also, MM is no match for Marv Levy -- maybe someday.

Nonetheless, I think the Bills have a good chance of going deep into the playoffs this year -- if they get the help needed to get in.

  6. Not at all.  Weis has certainly had his input in the Pats' recent success.

However, there are many instances where Belichick has outcoached teams, such as last year's Monday night game against Denver (taking the safety late in the game and yet still coming up with the win), that make him so tough to coach against.  Given that, I feel losing Belichick would hurt the success of the Patriots A LOT more than losing Weis.  Belichick is a smart enough coach to prepare for Weis' departure, so Brady shouldn't have a significant dropoff, but you never know.

I completely agree that losing Belichick would kill the Pats. My point was that every chink the New England's armor is a welcome sight to me. I feel strongly that Weis' new job is a serious chink.

  7. Why?  Is Belichick going there as his defensive coordinator?

    159977

Is that to say you don't think Weis is a valuable aspect of the coaching staff? Do you think Belichick can claim total responsibility for the Pats' success?

I think we'll see a less-effective Tom Brady after Weis leaves.

  8. I think the Bills can get to Carson Palmer and make him make mistakes. That would be the key, and I'd predict a 31-10 win for the Bills if Palmer plays.

But, I would be suprised to see Palmer in pads at all. The Bengals have to look at what the D did to Garcia Sunday and realize there is no reason now to put their future on the line.

There is a lot less recent film available of John Kitna. I think Kitna is a good QB who won't make the same mistakes under pressure that Palmer will. Though he is still good for a pick or two.

All that said, the Bills D and running game will prevail in Cinnci!

Don't forget, this is a homecoming for Takeo and Sam Wyche.

  9. You misheard him...the Bills franchise never almost moved to Miami, he wanted to put a team there in 1960 prior to creation of the Bills.

    159296

You may be correct in that PRalph didn't want to move the Bills (I don't know), but no one misheard him. Madden said that Ralph wanted to move the Bills to Miami. I just watched it on tape.

  10. Bengals' Palmer questionable for Sunday

    Bengals' Palmer questionable for Sunday

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer is questionable for Sunday's game against Buffalo after an MRI exam Monday revealed no serious damage to his left knee.

Palmer suffered a sprained knee in the third quarter of this past Sunday's game against New England.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Palmer's status for the upcoming game depends on the quarterback's threshold for pain and how the knee responds to treatment during the week.

"It's a matter of his tolerance and flexibility," said Lewis. "We'll see what happens. He's still in his brace and crutches as of today and we'll see where he goes on Wednesday."

Palmer was hurt on a hit by New England's Richard Seymour and stayed down momentarily. He was eventually able to walk into the locker room under his power.

Jon Kitna took over the quarterbacking duties for the Bengals (6-7) and led the club on one scoring march and nearly had another, but was intercepted in the end zone during the 35-28 loss.

Kitna, who was making his first appearance of the year, finished 9-of-13 for 126 yards with the touchdown and an interception. He would get the start against the Bills if Palmer is unable to play.

Palmer was having a solid day against the defending Super Bowl champions, as he was 18-of-24 for 202 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

In his first season as a starter, the former Heisman Trophy winner and overall No. 1 draft pick has completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 2,897 yards with 18 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

  11. I'm going to do my best to be there! I'll send you a personal message later this week, CenteralVaBills.

I live up in Fredericksburg. We usually have two couples at the Hard Time Cafe and Cue at Four-Mile Fork. We had to dump Unlce Sams as it was taken over by Steelers' fans. What I find so annoying is how many fans I KNOW are in this area, but I never see more than two or three at any one place. I am tired of having the Bills game turned off right in front of me because I'm the only Bills fan there.

I hope to see lots of you Sunday in Richmond!
