not what the articles say semantics I guess

The touchdown pass was Allen's 34th of the season, which tied him with Jim Kelly for the team's single season record.

28 is what pro football reference shows

The article reflects the recent fad in the pros to count up a QBs "total touchdowns" by combining throws and runs/receptions. Bad writing of that sentence made it worse. They meant to say the TD pass was "Allen's 34th touchdown overall." Kelly had 33 throws and one TD run (against the Packers) in 1991.

  2. You're quite right, it ain't easy, and even "successful" transitions rely on luck.

Packers did go from Rote to Starr... but then had schlubs like Horn, Tagge, Hadl (near the end of his trail), Dickey, and Majkowski before hitting with Favre, whom the Falcons had dumped for a box of tape.

Raiders had a long transition (1970-1973) where Lamonica couldn't stay healthy and Stabler couldn't grab the starting job for good until halfway through 1973; then as he faded by 1979 they traded for Dan Pastorini (signing Plunkett was an afterthought)--dumb luck and Pastorini's injury opened the door to Plunkett. Since then, Raider QB choices have been mixed.

Niners were lucky to have Young on the squad, though there were four years of controversy before Montana left for good.

Colts of course had to suck to get Luck. One bad year at the right time helps.

The Pats just got very lucky, despite themselves--they had just signed Bledsoe to a monster deal. The org deserves credit for sticking with Brady early once his talents were clear.

Josh has also been setting single game records and ending bad Buffalo streaks.....

the recent ending of our losing on MNF is just the most recent, there are quite a few I think.

Each week we read about them post-game after wins....

It would be difficult finding all of them....

I know I can think of a particular four-game losing streak we would all like to see him end.

This list doesnt even include my favorite throw of the game. It was early in the first quarter, on the first drive I think. He actually moved left which isnt his strong suit and hit Beasly in stride on a laser to a soft spot of the zone. This throw I think he struggled to see the window against the Titans and Chiefs. It was early on and set the tone, after that throw I knew Josh was feeling himself.

Very first pass in this highlight reel:

Not on Josh, but did everyone see the very smart play by the O-Lineman around 2:19--while Josh rolls, a defender is rushing up from behind, and the O-Lineman (69) runs between them but keeps his hands up and makes no contact, effectively boxing the rusher out but avoiding the blindside block penalty? Very smart play, very good coaching there--perhaps some memories of the BS blindside call in the playoff game.

Kelly did that during a D friendly stretch and also missed 1 or 2 games that year IIRC or he probably would’ve also broken through 4K yards—but it’s time the torch gets passed, and I couldn’t be happier Josh is well on his way!

Indeed. He was knocked out of the Colts game early that year and he sat out the finale against the Lions. He threw 33 in 14 games!

Very glad to see Josh pushing these limits already.
