1. More than even all the player signings, were the front office signings.  Fairchild, AVP, Turk get all the credit for grooming Losman (The Future).  Whoever made the decision to shuffle the OL deserves the Coach of the Year award.  And to do that mid season!  Brilliant!

To have a coach who knows how to make the correct half time adjustments......PRICELESS!

You hit the nail on the head. I think TD did pretty well in evaluating player talent, but sucked when it came to picking a coach. I think that was TD's downfall.
2. I'm not calling it a mistake.  Just that Mangold at center would have solidified things right from the start and given the Bills a great center, whereas finding one now is going to be hard.  There are no great ones available in FA and the draft seems pretty weak.

A great line does not need great players as much as great chemistry.
3. What completely boggles my mind is that Buffalo was the first city to have a blackout ALL YEAR!!! How is that possible with fans like Miami and Tampa? :bag:

851037

Most teams have a large number of tickets bought by corporations, hence the empty seats you see in Miami. Don't lump Tampa in with Miami though. In spite of a terrable year - due to injuries, all the seats are filled in Tampa.
4. DTV can not show the NFL game if local affiliate is showing it however it seems when the game is HD and you have superfan than you get the HD broadcast on the NFL ST side.  This is the dumbest rule but forced by local affiliates who figured we would miss their commercials if we watched the ST broadcast.  This is the same insanity with local affiliates that prohibits east/west coast feeds of major networks.

849751

If the local channel shows a game it is blacked out period. I am considered to be in the Tampa market even though I live closer to Ft Myers. If a game is shown on a Tampa station it is blacked out on my ticket even though I can not pick the station from Tampa up over the air. :D
5. Romo is terrific.  He was handled well in Dallas.  I am sure there is going to be that inevitable day, where he has a crummy game, but he will bounce back, becuause he already knows what he can do.  If you had seen any of Dallas pre-season games the last couple of years, you could just tell this guy had some real football talent.

As for Drew, I still like the guy, and I don't know what else he could do to handle his situations in New England, Buffalo and Dallas any better, other than retire.  I have a hunch, barring an injury to Romo, Bledsoes' playing days ended with that int against the Giants on MNF, about a month ago.

BTW- I still hate Joe Buck...that shot of Aikman and he, with their daughters was priceless.  Bucks' oldest daughter looked like she didn't want to be there...as they cut away, you can hear Buck say, "the 10 year old wants to be in the back, this isn't "cool"...funny stuff...

846606

I'll tell you what Drew could have done to handle his situations better. He could have treated his job as a 12 month per year full time job, not an 8 month part time job. Drew is the classic case of a guy with a God given gift, but no work ethic. If he had worked at honing his craft, he would have been a sure HOF player, I guess 4 months a year free in Montana & Washington were more important to him than the HOF.
6. I used to have a 1976 Chevette, such a POS.

But as for an answer on the question, I don't think we can really gauge JP as QB until the O line is shored up.  If we can fix it in the draft/free agency, I say give him 4-5 games next season and if hestill can't cut it, time to get rid of him.

840315

I am in total agreement with you, provided they get him some line help next year. If the line still sucks, then I say let him play untill we get a decent Oline.
7. his point was that this years Bills are no better then last years even though most people thought they would be simply because of the change of GM and coach...dont know what was so hard about that to figure out

840418

Oh really? Most people had us pegged to win 3-4 games this year, only us optimists thought we could win more than 6 games.Go back and read the threads. This team is be better than last years, even if they do not win another game. They at least have leadership & direction now, along with many young players who will only get better with experience. :D
8. I bought a 2Gig Nano at Target a short while ago for $200. I was happy with it untill I heard Apple was coming out with a new version. I took it back and could have exchanged it for a 4 gig at no charge or for $50 I could get the 30 gig 5gen video Ipod. I chose to spend the extra $50 and get the video Ipod and am very happy with it.

9. I interned at a Hospice while in college.

It was called The Center For Hope, and it was located in Linden, NJ.

My experience was VERY positive. The way I explain in to people was, was that it was like a hospital with a spa-like setting.

Pain management is very important, and they Doctors and nurses will take great care in making sure that pain is as limited as can be.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or PM me.

835889

I agree, Hospice is great at pain management. Many Drs. are reluctant to prescribe narcotics, even to the terminally ill. That is the main reason to get hospice involved in my opinion.
10. Booger is a decent player when healthy. He isn't healthy all that often. He is set to earn way to much $ on a contract he signed while Rich McKay was GM of the Bucs. The Colts over paid for him (in my opinion) with a #2 draft pick & the contract he carries (maybe they can get him to renegotiate). I also think the Colts window is closing as someone else posted and that is why they overpaid.

11. It is strange, but some of TD's moves/non-moves are looking better now that he is gone then they did when he was here

777510

I liked and defended TD. He made some great player moves (with the exception of Fat Mike). His downfall was he did not know a good coach from a bad one.
12. I remember a Minnesota FOX game last year that was not in HD.

Maybe they only have capacity for (for example) 6 or 7 games in HD, and anything beyond their limit is in standard format.

Something else that can suck....

If the Bills do gain some notoriety and create fan interest, their HD games may be broadcast on the local CBS affiliate (I'm in Atlanta).  Unfortunately, my CBS reception for over-the-air broadcasts is the most unreliable (for me) of the 4 major networks.  FOX, NBC, and ABC both come in fairly well with minimal picture "break-up" or freeze frame, but CBS gets too much freeze up to make it enjoyable to watch.

So, in some ways, I'm better off if they don't show games locally. I think Directv will be having HD receivers with local Atlanta channels via satellite available very soon. They're already rolling them out in some cities.

I still prefer the over-the-air games on FOX or NBC.  As good as the satellite HD picture is, the HD broadcasts I receive via amplified antenna are superior.

777020

I have the HD receiver in Tampa with locals over the sat. Works fine for regular programing, but sucks big time for football (to much motion for the high compression they are using.)
13. The OL was terrible....yet again. On some of what I thought were JP's worst plays, guys were charging at him completely unblocked.

When this franchise wants to get serious about featuring an offense powered by JP and Willis, they will start replacing the Mike Gandy's and Chris Villarial's with actual starting-caliber talent.

776607

The Bills had many holes to fill this year,I think Marve did a good job this offseason. The O-line will continue to improve this year with coaching & continuity, If not then Marve will adress it next offseason.
14. Substitute Meathead to HC and substitute DL for secondary and we pretty much have last year's Bills team.

For Puhonix, it looks like it's gonna be a long season.  It's really a shame that you don't cheer for a team that I could say I don't want to see it happen to you.

777207

Good point. There is also going to be a simularity with the QB situation - last year:JP/Kelly This yearDC/Joey. Let's hope the Fins have a nice QB controversy by week 4
15. Ok, I'm here to take my licks, watched the whole thing with Ramius, and got hell all day long.

One thing I'm wondering, is Miami tha bad, or ar the Bills that good, or is there some combination of both?

Ok, I'm ready to take my licks.

776397

I think after next weeks games we will know the answer to that question. Fins fans were sold a BILL if goods that there team was a potential Super Bowl contender by the media, and that the Bills were a pile of dung. In reality the Fins have 1) A TERRIBLE O-line B) Meathead as OC 3) A terrible secondary, can't expect to win much with all those problems.
16. I had an expensive (when I bought it) Philips recorder. I was happy with it untill it died. I bought a Magnavox DVD recorder for $98 @ Walmart, after research on line. It works as well as the Phillips did for less than a third of the money. The only fault with it is the remote control. The remote is very small, & the buttons are TINY. I have had it a couple months now & am very happy with it. I have also heard good things about the Polaroid DVD recorder. It cost $218 @ Walmart & has an 80 gig HD which is very easy to replace with a larger one. I am probably going to buy one myself & put the Magnavox in the bedroom.

17. I don't see how the DirecTV deal is a monopoly. It is an exclusive rights agreeement which happens in several industries and markets- think Windows and Intel till a few months back. Also, if a monopoly such as this were to reduce competition in the marketplace, the FCC would be all over DirecTV. Count me in as one who switched from Comcast to DirecTV only due to the Sunday ticket.

{mods- Perhaps this thread should now be in the Consumer Forum}

765980

It is the same as networks televising the games. NBC had the AFC for years, but when the contract came up they balked. CBS balked at first also, Fox came up with the $$$$ and got rights for the NFC from CBS.
18. You might run into problems with the installer if you don't have a phone line - they usually like to connect it to the phone line when they do the install.  You should be able to convince him otherwise though.

However the major problem with not connecting to a phone line is that you will not get any software updates to the DVR -- and they happen about once a year (at least with the DirecTiVos -- not sure about the new ones, but I would assume a similar schedule).  In addition, with the TiVos, you get a nag screen saying you havn't checked in.  It doesn't affect functionality, but it's a bit annoying.

You cna't split the cable -- the reason is that the receiver actually communicates back to the dish, and if you split the cable, you lose that communication path.  What's wrong with running two coax cables to the TV?  Most people have the cables behind the TV so you wouldn't see it anyway.  Recording two shows at once is one of the biggest advantages of the DVR, IMHO.

766031

I had a HDDVR replaced under the protection plan. The first replacement had very bad pixalation of the screen, The 2nd had a faulty modem. Because it could not dial out It had no DVR functionality. NO program guide, no recording, the DVR was useless except it would rewind the last 30 min. of airtime. I don't know if it needs the phone line once set up,but definatly does need it for initial instalation.
