We're gonna end up going into 2024 with Josh Allen and a bunch of JAGs.  I'm pretty salty we didn't make a move for one of the top 4 WRs.  As unrealistic as it may have been to land someone like Odunze,  Brian Thomas certainly wasn't out of reach.

Outside of Diggs, we always go into every season with Josh and a bunch of crap. Nothing new.

Here's the outcome if that happens - in one year we'll play the Chiefs in the divisional round. Chop Robinson or Cooper DeJean or whoever else will be invisible as the Chiefs casually move the ball up and down the field at will. Josh Allen will stand on his head and do backflips to keep us in the game but we'll ultimately fall short because no one else on offense cared to make a play. People will say "why can't Josh Allen beat Mahomes?" McDermott will have a presser that week talking about how hard it is to win and how close we are. Next year around draft time the usual suspects will say "we can't focus only on WRs, we have too many needs." Rinse and repeat.

If you don't know for a fact that this would be the outcome of picking a non-WR with our first pick, you're lying to yourself.

100% this. Let’s continue being the team with a franchise QB that doesn’t give him weapons.

I don't think you're suggesting that there couldn't be a higher graded non-WR left on the board at #28, are you? I keep hearing about how deep this WR class is. Would it be unreasonable to think that getting a WR in the second would get the Bills better value in the draft? And if the Bills don't do something to beef up their currently paper-thin defense, the Chiefs (and other teams, as well) will certainly be marching down the field at will! That's not "lying to myself." I'm just trying to look at the big picture, and at the moment, it has some problems!

Honestly, I don't get how it is that so many fans are calmly dismissing the numerous issues on this team beyond WR?

This roster SUCKS outside of Josh. Josh is THE ONLY elite guy on the team. Let that sink in. Wasting a pick on a DE who won’t pan out is a disaster waiting to happen. Even if they kind of hit on a DE, that’s not going to fix all the holes we have. Just invest in josh and try to win that way.

lol the 49ers believe their getting a top 10 pick for Aiyuk seems a stretch.. let me pass on these 3 long term cost effective blue chip WRs and take the older proven expensive WR.

I mean, I guess but if I were a fan of that team I’d want the GM fired.

There are a lot of dumb GMs. Lynch tends to fleece teams left and right (see getting a 4th for Trey Lance.. a 4th!). Guarantee he makes great moves this draft.

Morse wasn't worth his contract at this point of his career.

And since you brought up injuries, Morse is always 1 concussion away from being done/career ending.  He also seems to battle through elbow injuries each year, and is not getting any younger.

Bates was versatile.  But it's very possible that Alec Anderson is our Swiss army guy at IOL.  Loser of Edwards/Collins battle also gives depth.  And we signed Clapp, who has solid starting experience.

Starting OL will be just as good, if not improved.  Remembering Torrence as a rookie and Brown showed his potential with a full offseason regimen (not coming off surgery/injury).  OL is least of concerns with the current roster.

Glad you’re optimistic. Depth wasn’t needed last year but it was great to have jt when needed. I for one am not looking forward to a few injuries leading to Josh running for his life.

How exactly did we "nuke" the OL?

Morse was slightly above average some games, but mostly average.  McGovern, Dawkins, Torrence and Brown return.  Edwards as well.

Yes Connor likely moves to C.  But that could be a very good thing.  Morse didn't hold up against 3-4 style, or anytime DT was in a 0 or 1i technique.

Edwards and Collins battle it out for LG.  Combined OL is just as good, if not better.  With Torrence likely improving and Brown as well.

We haven't even had the draft and you're prognisticating a bad WR room.  Let's see what happens in draft to start.  1st round WR and double dipping sometime later, and all of a sudden we might have a more diverse group since 2020

Why change the o line at all? It worked last year for once. You think oft-injured Collins or old Edwards is going to hold the left side? And we were healthy last year which won’t happen again. Add in trading a versatile bates, and I’m not seeing what there is to be positive about. No depth at all.

  6. Thought this thread was a joke until I opened it. The bills weren’t winning the Super Bowl with Diggs let alone with no #1 WR. Come on, I love the bills but beyond Josh Allen we don’t have 1 elite guy on this roster. Not 1. This team isn’t going anywhere with McDermott anyways. Incredible how poorly managed the roster is when you’ve got a top 2 QB in the league.

I'm not saying whether the Bills should pursue him or not but Aiyuk's definitely a number one... he relegated Deebo Samuel to number 2 and his already huge numbers from last year (75 receptions 1341 yards 17.6 YPR 7 TDs) would explode if he were to transition to Josh Allen from Brock Purdy.

Those who closely watch the Niners and the NFL know without a doubt that Aiyuk is a number one receiver.

He's just not yet a household name.

    Undoubtedly.

He’s a number 1 for sure. Dude is incredible. Projecting how he fits into our office is tough though coming from the much better Shanahan scheme where everyone is open every single play. But I’d give up a 1st for him now and not think twice. Tired of Josh not having weapons to work with.

He has the added bonus of playing in the south, which means a lot of dome games.

He also has Bobby Slowek calling the plays and running the Shanahan system where guys are Constantly WIDE TF OPEN, which can’t be understated. On the flip side, Josh is asked to play backyard football just making stuff up as he goes since no one is ever schemed open.

Considering his age and how badly his production fell-off the end of last year (not to mention the never-ending drama around his Twitter posts)... I really have no problem with Stefon Diggs getting traded.

The part that confuses is me is the compensation.  We get a 2nd Round Pick... but not until next year.  We do save some cap from his contract... but also next year, while taking on a big dead-cap hit now.  This adds up as a team willing to get worse in 2024, in exchange for the opportunity to be better in 2025.  It doesn't look like a team hoping to compete for a Super Bowl again.

Most of the moves Beane made over the last month I understand (Tre White, Jordan Poyer, Gabe Davis).  These are all losses we could afford to lose and still field a contending team.  But the Mitch Morse release (just when the O-Line was finally getting set) and the Diggs trade make me question if our GM is just punting away this season, and hoping to reload for the future.

Maybe there will be some follow-up moves in the coming weeks (maybe trading for Justin Jefferson or Brandon Aiyuk).  Maybe the plan is to trade-up for one of the Top 3 receivers.  But as things sit right now, it's a depressing downturn.

This is where I’m at too. This is a GM that knows his roster isn’t good enough to win a SB and needs to rebuild. And that’s pathetic when you have a top 5 QB. But that’s where we are when you blow draft picks on guys that aren’t good enough and don’t get your qb legit weapons.

The fact that they got rid of Morse is what upset me the most. Our o line has sucked forever and then you switch it up? You’re just creating more holes in an already thin roster.

I’m good with trading Diggs. The guy no showed every playoff game. He was a ghost in every single elimination game. But now you have to trust beane to do the right thing instead of doing what I think he’ll do and grab a DL or CB with our first rounder.

Not really, according to that post the Chiefs have 9 starters called out drafted since 2021. The bills have 8 and had way fewer high picks than the chiefs due to the Hill trade

    kincaid (2023 1st)

    Torrence (2023 2nd)

    cook (2022 2nd)

    Bernard (2022 3rd)

    shakir (2022 5th)

    benford (2022 6th)

    Rousseau (2021 1st)

    Brown (2021 3rd)

Besides getting jumped for Mcduffie and having to settle for Elam our drafting is nearly identical

All nice contributors but no one elite. We have one elite guy on the roster. Gotta start hitting on a few more.

I know jack squat about this player, but I can tell you the Eagles forum is celebrating his departure.

Eagles were the worst I’ve seen in a long time in terms of their LBs and CBs. No reason not to celebrate when any of them are leaving. We would be celebrating too if we were them.

except it seems like they lose NONE of their many quality players.  I don’t understand how this works.

Niners traded for CMC because they knew the league would stockpile picks back to them. Disgraceful.

True. They gave up peanuts for the best weapon in football besides tyreek hill because they know they’re getting comp picks back later on. They fleece poorly run franchises like the cowboys for guys like Trey Lance and the redskins for the best LT in football. Now they get young and cheap at certain spots this year and also can make big moves in free agency. And they can afford to pay their HOF talent at many spots as well.

Obviously San Fran has this figured out a lot better than the bills.  They have a 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th.

This. I catch ***** for repeating on here how great the 49ers front office is. No one is close. I’m not saying they only hire minority coordinators just to get them hired elsewhere for comp picks.. but I’m also not saying they don’t do that. They have the best roster in football and they’re LOADED with picks. Don’t forget them fleecing Dallas by getting a 4th rounder for Trey Lance, a guy who will never take a snap for them outside of a Dak injury. O line help, another CB and a DL opposite Bosa is all they need and they’ve got lots of chances in this draft to hit on those spots plus trade up if they want. Not to mention they always make big moves in free agency so I fully expect them to make a big move here before the draft too. There’s a reason they are the favorites to win it all again next season too.

If the ball doesn't bounce off Darrel Luter's foot during the punt return, the Chiefs do not win the Super Bowl.

If Zay Flowers stretches one more inch before fumbling into the endzone, the Chiefs do not win the AFC.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not trying to diminish the Chiefs accomplishment.  They are a great team and deserve the Lombardi.  But neither of those plays had anything to do with superior roster/cap management over the rest of the NFL.

The Chiefs front office should get credit for putting together a roster consistently good enough to compete for the Super Bowl every year.  That isn't easy.  But so should the Buffalo Bills, 49ers, Ravens, etc.  The difference between those teams is literally 1-2 lucky plays.

This x1,000. Add in Jalen Hurts simply dropping the ball and it bouncing straight up to Bolton for him to run it in during the other SB. They also had horrible OTs that led the league in penalties all year only to not ever get called for holding in the playoffs and especially the SB when they were holding Bosa all night. Things that would sink the other 31 teams don’t bite them and they get every bounce. Not every move they make is perfect. The Ravens and 49ers have better rosters. The chiefs roster is better than ours though.
