  1. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought we were talking about a 2-gap d-lineman. I agree 100% that a 1 gap player like Fat Sam should just " GO FORWARD" but not all NT or DT play is coached that way. Some coaches, like me teach players to simply occupy blockers, as many as possible , so that our playmakers can make plays. I spent an afternoon this summer with Max Bowman who used to be on Marv's staff back in the 80's and was with Wade after that. He coaches at Rutgers now. We talked only about the type of player needed to be a NT. He said that the most important thing you want your NT to do is punish the center, play after play. Don't worry about his tackles or sacks or anything. If a Nt does his job then the center will lose his will to play. I took that advice and tried to find the best RUN BLOCKER I could find and lined him up at NT. I tried to teach a quick 1st step and hammer the center. It does work. All this being said, I agree with Faustus. Please draft Nagata in the 1st. I just think that MW is a mass of humanity anf if he can fill space and punish the guy in front of him it may be worth a look.
  2. Hey Faustus, it might be better if you finished your sentences then we could respond in an intelligent manner. Apparently you seem to fancy yourself as a sort of football expert. If you have something to say please say it. I have been following the Bills since 1968. When I lived in the area I went to most of the games. When I went to UB we went every Sunday. Back then the Bills sucked , much like they do now. I am only trying to make a point that we need to explore all options. The fact that I coach football and played a lot of football,of course makes me think that I'm an expert like you. I'm sure you'll have a very nice return post.
  3. Oh please, we can put defensive lineman on offense but not the reverse? I coach high school football and we do this all the time. I'm not saying it would work but is it worth investigating? I think it is.
  4. Do you remember Gilbert Brown? I doubt that fat tub had any more talent or skill than our beloved MW. He was however able to occupy at least two blockers so that our new lb coach could make tackles.
  5. Actually, if guys are running past MW and he is occupying two blockers then I would assume that one of our star linebackers would have a clean shot at any runner that is " running by him". Since our LB's are all world it should be no problem for them to hold the guy to @ a 2 yd gain. In cover two we are in official " Bend but don't break" land
  6. In our never ending search for some quality interior d- lineman why not try to convert Mike Williams to a nose tackle or D tackle? We all say he sucks as a pass blocker but is decent in the run game. A true 2-gap nose tackle is really nothing more than a blocker. His job is to tie up linemen so the linebackers can make plays. Mike W is what 375lbs? If that tub of goo can't clog the middle then who can? He is still a young player. Rather than cut him which will cost a lot of cap dollars in dead money, why not consider him for the D-line? I realize that Jauron just said today that we will play a 4-3 next season but I still think Big Mike should get a look at D tackle simply because he's huge and I hate dead cap space. Any thoughts?
  7. I agree 100% that he would be the best possible hire for the Bills. I , like you live in the NY area so I suppose you see a lot of Jet games. I love the energy and attitude that Donnie Henderson brings to the table. I hate that he coaches the Jets but I believe he is gonna be a star coach at some point. The players play for that dude. I heard today that he and Terry Bradway have personality issues so he may not be back with the Jets now that Herm is in KC. I suppose that means he will follow Herm to KC.
  8. I am not totally against Capers coming to Buffalo, I just don't think it is possible. I think that Tim Lewis is going to get a Head coaching job and that the Giants will then hire Capers to fill that role. I know that Tom Coughlin has been successful with Capers as his D- Coord while in Jacksonville and would surely hire him again.
  9. You may be right. I think there are a couple of reasons that Ted failed in in NY. I think it was a case of Herm Edwards trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Ted was more of a 3-4 guy. Most of his time in Buffalo both as a lb coach and then a coordinator we ran the 3-4. There were times when Wade went 4-3 but generally we played a base 3-4. In NY, Herm played an aggressive 4-3 that he brought with him from Tampa Bay. It never seemed that Ted was comfortable coaching this. In addition to the scheme the Jets had an aging defense with Mo Lewis at one lb and an injury plagued Sam Cowart in the middle. To add to this mess nt Jason Ferguson got hurt early in the season and as always John Abraham missed time I think that Ted was fired by Herm as a sort of scapegoat. If you notice, Herm also fired Paul Hackett last year. The failures of the Jets are never the fault of Herm. In Minnesota his defense did underachieve last year but they seemed to be improving as this season went on. I'm surprised anything positive happened in Minn this year after the " CRUISE". I guess the bottom line for me is if I'm going to hire a retread I'd rather have a former Buffalo Bill than another Steeler reject.
  10. Are you sure he is a UFA? I think he is still under contract to the Jets. It is my understanding that he is due to make@ 4-5 million next season so the Jets are trying to decide whether to pay him or not. That being said, I would pay him 2-3 million/year for two or three years. He is a mean SOB and could instill some toughness into our passive o-line. That guy leaves it on the field every week. When the Jets beat the Bills this year he was the first one out onto the field to congratulate his teammates even though he was in street clothes. Git er done Marv!
  11. I just read on Kffl that new Minnesota coach Brad Childress is going to be interviewing candidates for the position of defensive coordinator. Does this mean that Ted C has been fired? If so, I would take him in a minute. Thoughts?
  12. I have never posted on any board before. I have been reading TSW and the other Bills message boards for years but never felt compelled to write until now. I remember the day I really became a Bills fan. It was in June of 1977 at my high school sports banquet, the day I met Joe Delamalilure ( sp). I grew up in Falconer, NY and played every sport possible. My senior year in high school I was one of three captains on our undefeated football team. I loved football. My dad loved the Bills but I was a Packer fan since they were the best team going when I was small and they were always on T.V. Well my dad was always bugging me to watch the Bills, saying how this O.J Simpson guy was so good. He wore me down to finally attend a game at the new Rich Stadium. It was against the Colts and we were one row from the top. I could see the lake over the top wall. Well OJ went for like 150yds that day and I was in awe. I kept asking my dad about OJ and if it was him or the offensive line doing the good job. My dad said it was both. After that I really started to read about the Bills and the Electric Company. I became a huge fan of the whole line ( I played guard on offense). I especially loved Joe D, he was the man. When he came to our school as the guest speaker I was nervous to meet him. He was the nicest person you could imagine. I talked to him after the banquet for at least a half hour, just like he was the guy next door. I knew right then that I would always love the Bills. Today I live in Millstone Township N.J. I am surrounded by Jets, Giants, and Eagle fans. I of course hate the Jets most but they are all annoying. Everyone in town knows that I love the Bills. I coach baseball, pop warner football, and a travel basketball team. I wear Bills crap to every sporting event I attend. I have Sunday ticket and TIVO. I have to TIVO every game since I coach so much. I haven't missed a game in like ten years. It's a family thing now. Every Sunday we all get our Bills stuff on and watch the game. My friend John that I went to UB with lives in Allentown NJ and he and his family come over every Sunday to watch with us. It's a lifelong love affair now! I am sorry about the length of this, I feel like FFS. I may never post again but I felt the need to get this out. Thanks for the interesting topics over the years.
