  1. I'm hoping the Bills bring in a FA and a draftee at QB. I don't think it would be a good idea to go into next season with Cassel and EJ competing for the starting job. The rook can go on the practice squad if he can't stay on the roster. Cassel, EJ and the FA can decide which one of them is the backup or gets released. EJ gets a chance but I think it is nearly a foregone conclusion that he is not the starter. Especially with the Bills spending a pick on Cassel.

  2. Can he? Maybe, but I highly doubt it.

Will he? I highly doubt it.

The Bills just traded for a QB. I'm thinking that indicates two things, The Bills brain trust don't think he can and if somehow Manuel and Cassell are equal the Bills braintrust will lean towards Cassell.

If the Bills just wanted competition, they could have signed FAs. They actually took the time and resources to trade for the "competition".

  3. The Bills have surprised me two days in a row. The McCoy trade was a shocker. Couldn't believe what I was reading last night. Wasn't sure it was possible to trade a LB on IR for one of the best backs in the NFL. Then today I see the trade for Cassell as I sit down to lunch. Not as big of a trade but unexpected none the less. I don't know if either of these trades will work out for sure. At least the FO is trying and they aren't afraid to take some risk to do it. It appears to be a new way of doing business at OBD.

  4. Not a bad deal. Cassel is as good or maybe better than any FAs or Manuel. I'd still like to see them sign another FA (Locker) and/or draft a QB, but that's probably not going to happen. Cassel should easily win the QB competition but at least there will be one and may the best QB win it.

  5. I always liked Hill's fire on the field and ability to not crumble under pressure. Could fill the Gap for now.

    "Shaun Hill , Ht./wt 6-3, 220. Age: 35. Experience: 13 seasons.

    2014 stats: 9 games (8 starts), 145-229 (63.3 pct.), 1,657 yards, 8 TDs, 7 INTs.

What they’re saying: Polian: “Pretty good prospect. He’s had enough playing time to be seasoned. He’s played pretty well in the opportunities he’s had to play, both in Detroit and St. Louis. I would probably look hard at him.”

Carucci’s take: I wish he had done a better job of avoiding interceptions, but the Bills could do worse in free agency than going with a solid pro who seemingly has what it takes to be at least a one-year solution as a starter."

I wouldn't mind seeing the Bills bring in a veteran like Hill and young guy like Locker and have them compete for the starting job. The vet maybe starts the next year or two until the young guy is able to beat him out. Throw EJ in if you want although I don't think he has any chance of beating out either Hill or Locker unless there is an injury.

  6. I don't get the hate Bills fans have for this move if it happens? Take your pick in free agency, nothing great. McCown and Locker fit the scheme the best.

I don't think McCown is any better than EJ and McCown has no upside. He is what he is. At least with Locker he's young, reports are that he has shown some above average play at times (yes he has injury issues) and has some potential to get much better. McCown will play one or two years and then the Bills are right back where they are now at QB. No viable candidates on the roster only those that "may" have some potential.

  7. I'm hoping the starting QB is not on the roster. My fear is that it will be EJ not because he is the best available but because Whaley is trying to save face. I'm hoping they sign two FAs and draft a QB and let EJ compete with them. Unfortunately I don't think they can sign two meaningful FAs though. As soon as the first FA signs all others will stay away as they figure the Bills have their guy and no reason to sign here. Best case is probably sign Locker, draft Grayson (more likely Bridge) and EJ.

  8. All this QB talk is confusing, but I think we really only have one option.

EJ - That's it, bring in whoever you want as long as it does not have a big impact on next years cap. The 2016 draft class at least right now looks way better, if EJ stinks we get a great pick next year, possibly we pick a high as 15, and a trade up to around 9 or 10 would be possible.

to bring in anyone else unless you thought he was a franchise guy is a waist of money. Draft a the best running back we can this year with the 2nd and see if we can get to the playoffs with ground and pound. Sign a couple of TE in free agency a couple of guards fix the o-line and get set for Rex year 2.

If EJ stinks you can draft at QB in the first and the third next year, the class could be that strong, sign a veteran QB to help the young guys, of course by year two you will need to sign/draft another Pass rusher and DT, the Williams brothers will be getting up in age.

in the 2016/2017 year we should have lots of cap room to sign needed pass rushers and DT if we cant find them in the draft.

I think after next year we become a real challenge for the AFC tittle, Brady may even be gone by then.

    Just my opinion

In the mean time a very good, maybe great, defense is wasted. Who knows what the defense will look like in 2-3 years down the road. The Bills need to create competition and not treat EJ as the default #1.

  9. Since EJ is on the roster I'm sure he will get another chance. I don't expect much improvement from EJ. In 14 games he has shown the same problems that he showed coming out of college and with no improvement. It appears that he is what he is. While it's too soon to give up on EJ, I'm just hoping the Bills can get someone who has the chance to be much better than EJ. If EJs play doesn't improve and he is the starter, the Bills probably don't make the playoffs unless the defense and run game are absolutely dominating. I'd try to sign Locker as he and EJ can run a similar offense. Assuming that the relationship between Sanchez and Ryan is still good, I'd also try to sign Sanchez. Between EJ, Locker and Sanchez hopefully one separates himself and can become average at least. It is the key to the playoffs.

  10. I much rather listen to Howard Simon & Jeremy White over Schopp & The Bulldog. Sylvester & Peters are very bad too.

Of the current personalities they have I'm holding out hope that they put Simon and Sal together for the afternoon show. I think they would be able to keep the talk interesting and interact with the callers civilly instead of the harassment that Schopp and White dish out on a daily basis.

  11. One was the hit placed upon Trent Edwards by Adrian Wilson, the safety from the Arizona Cardinals. Our team was 4-0 and looking pretty good. Edwards was not great, but he was good enough to get them to that game undefeated for the first 4-0 record in years. On one of the first plays of the game, Wilson came through and knocked Edwards into the future. He was never the same.

    He never got it back.

Last year the play that ruined the season of EJ Manuel was the pick six by JJ Watt. Prior to that play, EJ was good but not great, and was progressing like one might expect from the 16th pick in the previous draft.....not a franchise quarterback, but one who needs a couple years to get up to speed. We were ready to score against the Texans, and he threw that pass that Watt, well, you saw it.

He was not the only player to be made to look foolish by JJ Watt.

As a result, Saint Doug took it upon himself to declare that EJ Manuel is no longer the quarterback of the Buffalo Bills. One play changed everything.

The difference is that Edwards was actually injured on the play, and perhaps that injury led to his long-term mediocrity. EJ Manuel made a mistake. People make them in games. All quarterbacks make mistakes. The way to measure the quality of a leader is to look at how he responds after he gets back up. EJ never was given that chance.

Since he was not hurt, I think that he paid an unfair price for making a bad throw to the best defensive player in the NFL. Next time he won't make that throw, and the Bills go on to win the game.

This is not an EJ thread. It's a thread about redemption. One guy's malady was physical. The other guy got beat by a great player. Maybe he should have not endured such a consequence.

I think you have made EJs inadequacies a little too simple. No one play ever made or broke a players career.
