  1. Is Ertz signed yet?

This will probably be one of those things that just completely fizzles out here. We will all start to get excited for the new season and just forget about it for a while…then out of nowhere get the alert that we traded for him.

Bills fans are a like a dog with a bone when it comes to potential trades.  No forgetting about it around here....  we have waaaay too many pages still to fill on this thread.

Time to dig up a new Ertz rumor and get a new Ertz thread started?

    Don't be that guy.  😉

Until Ertz is traded to Buffalo or any other team, this is what Ertz twitter talk has become for me...

Don't get me wrong, I'll still participate. I like pain.

Well frankly, it's all we have at the moment.  Beating the Ertz horse into b&w is still more compelling than trying to figure out who will make the team because they can play special teams.... 😜

the TE is an afterthought for Josh - not Daboll necessarily as he came from NE as a TE coach - he knows gettin those guys open - Josh just does not consistently or even often look for that as his primary guys were getting open last year.

Fair enough - but it's certainly an area he and Daboll should be working on.  I'm not saying Ertz is Kelse by any stretch, but look at what KC did to Buffalo...

I’m not sure.  From a DC position am I really worried about Ertz versus Diggs, Beasley, Sanders, Davis, McKenzie?  If Ertz was on the team - I as DC - would be thrilled to have the ball going to him all day and keeping it out of the WRs hands.

Until they prove that they will use the TE to win games on a consistent basis - my gameplan would continue to focus mostly on ways to handle, limit, or contain the WRs.  Either tight man coverage with doubling of some of the WRs or a blitzing package to go after Josh.  Ertz getting 8 or 10 yards making a catch and going down would be acceptable.  Make the Bills go down the field slowly without big chunk plays.

If I’m a DC - Knox worries me more than Ertz at this point - he is inconsistent, but when he catches the ball - especially on the outside - he has gotten some nice chunk plays and has run over people bringing huge energy to both Josh and the team.

Ertz gives you another reliable receiver (although his catch % last year was worse than Knox), but his strength is not in blocking and his Yards per Reception is not great - which all suggests he is basically a get to a spot - make a catch - and get tackled guy and that may help with a few 1st downs, but actually lessens the offense versus Beasley in that same role.

All valid points, but the line I bolded could also be a function of the Eagles' system.  Josh certainly has gotten better at throwing guys open so they can get some YACs.  In a different system with a better QB than Ertz has had - might he be able to shed the "get to the spot and get tackled" label ??  Obviously no way to know for sure, but I sure would be willing to bring him on and see.  Ultimately I think we were somewhat lucky with major injuries to our WRs last year.  Will that hold up this year?  I guess I'm just a proponent of stacking the roster with as many proven productive receivers as possible for this year's run.  Loved the Sanders pickup for the same reason.  Options, options, and more options for Josh!!!

Well judging from the season he had last year I would be surprised if most defensive coordinators would still worry about him being a threat.

Different team - different system - different QB.  Did everyone think Diggs would have the amazing year he had last year based on the production he had at Minnesota?  Some guys clearly respond to a change of scenery and some don't.  I'm not sure which one Ertz might be, but I'd be willing to take a chance to find out.  Hey, it's not MY money!!  🤑

This screams their moving on from Beasley if Ertz is signed. If Beasley is there not enough touches for Knox, Hollister & Ertz. I’m sad to even say this but Beasley’s days are numbered in Buffalo

That's a big leap to think Beasley is automatically gone regardless if Ertz is signed or not.  You want to stockpile weapons if you're serious about making a SB run this year!  Plain and simple.  You won't find an Ertz on the wire mid to late season.  He's your insurance for either Beasley or Sanders getting hurt.

No, I disagree that this FO has any hope of Knox being the long term answer for us. They made too many moves to suggest comfort here. I doubt Buffalo plans on running many Twin TE sets, sure it’s a nice wrinkle in the run game and play action but a bit conservative for us given Allen’s skill set.

I'd be willing to bet Daboll can dial up something interesting out of a 2 TE set....

  7. I think it's hilarious that folks piss and moan about adding another above average weapon on offense.  How many years did the Bills suffer with lower talent - in part - because they didn't want to come to Buffalo and get thrown at by... who??  Finally we have a QB who can actually throw the ball and win games - oh and throw a LOT!  I want as many quality targets for him to throw at as we can afford.  You always have to plan for injuries and hope they don't happen of course, big ones anyway.  If Beane says we can afford to maybe overpay a little for yet another quality receiver at a position in need.  Sign me up!

Oh and that was my contribution towards 11 pages.

  8. A little, but I'm honestly feeling pretty good about how in control Josh is playing.  I get no sense of that desperation hero ball that always seemed to doom him early.  The whole team is playing well.  If they do end up crashing and burning at some point, I suspect it will because they simply run into a hotter team.
