Yes, We are still missing (I think 6) pre draft visits which Simpson may have been one so I couldn’t definitively rule him out. I agree with you though the chance of him being the pick at 27 is lower because it doesn’t seem the Bills are targeting any LB with their visits.

I agree that Simpson is more of a Beane pick than Campbell though, Simpson is a potential home run pick while Campbell is the safer selection.

Since 2018, every first draft pick has:

    1. Been 21 years old or younger

    2. Had two years of solid college production (Rousseau is the one exception but Covid complicated this)

    3. Had clean medicals

    4. Had a top 30 visit. We do not have all visits reported so this will not disqualify for this exercise.

    LB

    Fit: Trenton Simpson

Excludes: Jack Campbell (age), Drew Sanders (production)

    Final Board

    4. Trenton Simpson

MLB is the most obvious hole in the team, but I’m just not sure the Bills see it as a must fill. I think they think someone will be available round 2 and so are ok waiting.

Excellent post, but I don't believe the Bills had a top 30 visit/private workout with any LBs (which is very fishy). I know they had scouts at many Clemson games (per Dean Kindig) but haven't heard of any interviews with Trenton Simpson. I remember seeing they've had contact with Jack Campbell though.

Matt Bergeron said on this podcast that he had a top 30 visit with the Bills. Starts about the 10 minute mark

That brings the pre draft visitor count to 25

One other thing of note, Greg Cosell on OBL said he is hearing Bergeron is viewed as a guard by most teams he has heard from.

Interesting, I was listening to a Move The Sticks podcast and Daniel Jeremiah/Pete Schrager did a mock where they had the Bills picking Matthew Bergeron at pick 27.

  4. Trenton Simpson - just because he’d be fun to watch, dude can absolutely fly

Jonathan Mingo - love his tape, has size and excellent athleticism

Jordan Addison - I think he goes well before the Bills pick but he’s a baller

Bijan - I get that RB in round 1 is wrong, but this guy makes it look easy out there. I also expect he’ll be gone early.

Sam Laporta - not big at TE but he’s a dog, thinking they wait and take Schoonmaker though

Downs screams slot guy to me.

I had to look up Peter King to see who he is, he has 1.7M followers on Twitter lol, so maybe he has some sources.

He hasn't met with any teams. No thanks on Downs

That is so strange, I wonder if he'd be available in round 3 though. I'd take him then.

Last years draft was the time to take a stud WR but Beane chose to take another RB. Cook is fine but I think all of us would’ve been more stoked to go into this year with Pickens opposite Diggs instead of Cook in the backfield

I hated the Cook pick but all the good WR were gone at that point, Shakir was good value in the 5th round though. Beane has never drafted a WR early and I expect the same this year.

For me, it's Quentin Johnston. He's not a finished product - but he's the best true Outside WR with the blend of size and speed I think we're looking for.

He'll need some coaching up, but when it comes to guys like JSN and Flowers - you're looking at guys who have predominately played Slot and project to Slots in the NFL. We have that position covered with Harty and Shakir already. We need another boundary WR.

If Beane believes JSN can play outside on this team though, I'd be all for it.

Quentin Johnston is the only early WR that the Bills have not met with, they’ve talked to JSN, Hyatt, Flowers, and Addison. Maybe they like him and don’t want to show it though?

James Cook is a below average RB and is a significant step down from Motor.

2022 draft was disgusting, Bills felt they only had a few holes in the roster and clearly reached on players that filled those needs. James Cook as small receiving RB in the second round is so bad, such poor value at pick 60. The guy is way too small and soft, now we are going to miss out on some good RBs in this draft, not that we have any hope of identifying RB talent anyways.

Hope this stops the nonsense of taking a RB in the 1st.

Now nobody will see it coming when the Bills draft Bijan! Beane is playing chess. Bills  signed Yeldon and then drafted Singletary out of nowhere.

Love it though, this guy is a solid back when healthy.
