Didn’t the Eagles need to get under the cap by Wednesday?  I don’t understand the NFL’s rules.

They do, and were under. They did not need to move Ertz to get under. There doesn’t seem to be a site that tracks NFL numbers on real time. In hockey, there are multiple sites that do. I have yet to find one for football and it may have to do with how easy it is to maneuver around the cap.

Just aside and to let some know that he really was decent, in 93-94 over 32 games Big Pete caught 117 passes for 1,037 yards and 9 TDs.

I could be wrong, but I believe it is the most successful two years of receiving by a Bills' TE in their 60 plus year history.

I honestly could live with 59 receptions, for 518 yards and 5 tds from a single TE next year, let alone that as a position I believe they caught around 40 balls this year (albeit 8 TDs).

Reuben Gant had 1054 yards and 7 Td’s over two seasons in a run heavy era, just to add to the debate.

    And, I forgot, a 14 game season.

I was just going to come here and say I think that the timing of not only the presser but the Chargers signing Cook signals Roseman is being unreasonable. But now I'm hoping the Chargers signing Cook has brought him back down to earth.

Imagine being Ertz and being told you can talk to teams about a trade - only for Roseman to be like "yeah, we're not really interested in trading you for less than an unreasonable price". Guys gotta be so pissed right now.

If I’m Beane, I’m dropping my offer a round or two. Why bid against yourself?

Spotrac projection of $6M for the draft is silly as far as I know.  Maybe $2M

If you read the fine print, Spotrac tells you to subtract 660K times the number of picks from the $6M pool because of 51 roster displacement so the correct number is around $2.2M.

He couldn’t last year and I was told it had nothing to do with COVID, something to do with his sickle cell condition

I'm just including it here because it's essentially the same conversation; Joe B published an article this morning talking about the ramifications of the Milano deal on the rest of the offseason. For those that don't subscribe, the summary of it is essentially this:

    • This leaves us with ~11 mil in cap space right now with the flexibility to get up to 20-23 mil based on a few cuts/restructures.
    • Likely takes us out of the running for the top-tier pass-rushers, but he thinks we could still be involved with the mid-tier guys, such as Carl Lawson, Trey Hendrickson, Denico Autry, Melvin Ingram, and Romeo Okwara. He thinks we're likely looking for a strength-based edge guy rather than a speed/bend type guy as he thinks our main issue was setting the edge and keeping the QB in the pocket. My note here: I wonder if this has something to do with the reported interest in Autry, as that would seemingly fit him to a T. We have until March 21st to get out of Addison's roster bonus, so the expectation is that we'll make our move for a pass rusher early in free agency so that we can cut Addison.
    • With all the OLinemen getting cut, he thinks this will drive the asking prices down and play into our hands to allow us to get at least one more starting OLineman in free agency. He thinks they'll likely just opt to bring Feliciano back but you never really know.
    • He thinks this definitely takes us down a peg in terms of what we can spend on a tight end. He thinks Henry, Jonnu, and Ertz are out as options and has returned to liking the idea of acquiring Cam Brate. My note here: yes please.
    • Lastly, he says this makes Edmunds' 5th year option less of a slam dunk, but ultimately, he thinks they're still pretty likely to pick it up. My note here: I may be mistaken, but I think we could theoretically decline the 5th year option, play the year out, and then give him one of the tags for slightly more money if we aren't comfortable committing to his 5th year a couple months from now?

Bullet point 2 is essentially saying they need to replace Shaq Lawson

The Compensatory Pick system was designed to allow the bad teams to keep their good players.

Instead, it rewards the good teams because they can afford to let good players walk and get huge contracts, while back-filling with cheap players who want to "win now."

This year is another perfect example.

The Bottom 10 Teams this year were:

    32) Jaguars: Zero Comp Picks

    31) Jets: Zero Comp Picks

    30)Texans: Zero Comp Picks

    29) Falcons: 3 Comp Picks, but none in Round 3 or 4.

    28) Eagles: 2 Comp Picks, but none in Round 3, 4, or 5.

    27) Bengals: Zero Comp Picks

    26) Lions: Zero Comp Picks

    25) Broncos: Zero Comp Picks

    24) Panthers: 2 Comp Picks, but none in rounds 3, 4, or 5.

    23) Giants: Zero Comp Picks

So, none of the bottom 10 teams got any Round 3 or Round 4 compensatory picks.

Meanwhile, perennial playoff teams like the Patriots, Saints, Steelers, Packers, Chiefs, Rams, Titans and Ravens all received round 3 and/or round 4 picks.

    This is a disgrace.

I’m not sure where you got the idea that that was the intent of the compensatory pick system but its working exactly as it was intended.

Fewer and fewer people can afford to attend NFL games. Sooner or later that is going to factor into the cap situation.

Ticket revenues have slowly become less relevant to the financial landscape of NFL teams.

  10. The key to Dak’s deal is the term, he realizes that in 4 years $40M per year will be paltry. This “one year” cap drop is hysterical. Teams are going to use it to get rid of guys and sign others for less. The cap will be $220 next year and will keep skyrocketing with TV contracts doubling and the revenue they are going to see from all the new “crypto” sources.

agree Milano is likley gone; I just hope its not to a div or conf rival

He has to be replaced, so I see AJ White getting the start, as he did when Milano was hurt...I see Dodson as backup and ST contributor.

I also would like a second-day draft pick spent on the LB position for depth and emerging starter mid-season or next

Next season the focus becomes Edmunds because unlikely to sign both he or Milano doesnt mean we have to automatically resign Edmunds to megabucks

Plus will he switch positions and become an OLB - TE coverage needs improvement for sure

His missed tackles rate and PFF position rating were not very good for last season; not deserving of a big extension

Is AJ White a better version of AJ Klein with mad coverage skills?
