Im ecstatic for you. By posting this about a former payer on the wrong team it earned you two much needed reputation points. You can probably start posts soon.

Geez! Grateful for the points although I don't generally pay attention to such but, for the record, I did apologize for assuming everyone would understand what I meant. In the (nonexistent) words of DJ Magic Mike, "I should have been more 'claritive'". ?

Maybe I'm wrong but I took it as a poke at the typical misspellings of common contractions by Monday morning armchair QBs/HCs/GMs that drive me, for one, absolutely batsh*t

Mahomes has started out far better than both of those guys.   Just doing it by mistake is an astounding error that you at least should find gallows humor in if nothing else.

The key point about Mahomes that the whiners conveniently never mention is that Mahomes sat behind Alex Smith for a year. Even though Smith knew he was being replaced he openly shared his knowledge and really helped Mahomes prepare for the job.

Similar situation with Rogers behind Favre.

Had they been drafted by the Bills and subsequently thrown to the wolves right off the bat neither would have flourished like they have.

So rest him for Cincy sounds like? Probably don't need him anyway, Bengals defense not looking sharp to start the season.

One of the things I love most about the current culture of the Bills is that they take nothing for granted. I know Cinci isn't anything resembling a power house but almost (almost) any NFL team is capable of pulling one out of its butt every so often. The Bills did it vs the Vikings last year.

McBeane & Co don't allow themselves the luxury of considering any opponent a "gimme". That's why this team is going to be very special.

  5. Probably thinks with AB on the team Gronk can skate another ring out of it even if he doesn't actually play. Not saying AB even makes it thru the regular season with the Syndicate or that the evil Brady Bunch makes to the show this season. But to me it sounds like something Gronk would think. (I don't give him a lot of points for the capacity for rational thought.)

  6. Since it all culminated in a win I'll chalk most of the few bone head plays up to bad luck and the fact that JA's still young with only a baker's dozen of regular season starts.

Don't know if I could be so kind if we were 0-1 but after all is said and done I really think this group and its QB are destined for great things.

  7. Wasn't really a fan of the original Sammy Watkins' acquisition and not particularly a Raiders fan but...

Am glad to see that #14 is finally healthy after nearly a half-dozen years.

Also tickled almost pink that the Raiders put together a win after all the AB drama.

DISCLAIMER: Just as long as my appreciation does not come back to bite the Bills in the playoffs. ?

I was one of the raving pitchforks mob last year, early on calling for his scalp--I'm glad management paid me no heed. I think he's been good for Josh, and I value the continuity so far. There's no doubt he develops creative concepts around his personnel, and your point about the unpredictability is well made. Isn't that some of the learnin' he absorbed from Darth Vader's school of situational football week in, week out, where you always are keeping opposing D's off balance with new wrinkles despite what you showed on film the week before?

    Me too.

I still think the first half v Jets was an aberration. Yes ball security has been and to an extent still is an issue with this group. Yes Allen should have tucked the ball on the sack but what are the true odds of that low pass to Beasley bouncing the way it did? Of course it happens but really?

As the late great Paul Newman as Fast Eddie Felsom said in "The Color of Money", "sometimes the balls roll funny for everybody". Does anyone remember that recent thread about what would happen if the starting QB threw 4 INTs during a regular season game? Or maybe it was the preseason, I'd look it up but I'm on my phone which is a gigantic PITA. This game is your answer.

I have a buttload of serious medical issues including severe depression so I'm not typically a "glass half full" kinda guy but my biggest takeaway from this game is that, most of the Bills teams I've watched in the past 14 years  would never have come back from a 16-0 deficit to win the game. This team did.

In fact, a lot of the bemoaning of this franchise during my "career" was that the team just couldn't finish in these situations. This group never lost its purpose or its cohesiveness. It got the job done no matter what.

While I'm quoting, I saw Jim Kelly in an interview. He was asked what he thought was the biggest difference between his teams and the present teams. His answer was to the effect that his teams never felt beaten until the final seconds clicked off the clock in the 4th quarter. That's exactly what this team did. They never gave up.

The defense was a part of that, a big part. But so was Josh Allen and Daboll and McDermott and Beane and every Bill on the field. They truly played their butts off for the full 60 minutes and are now 1-0 for the season and in the division. No matter what happened in the first half or the previous play. They just got it done.

    Just my 2¢

He looked like a better version of LeVeon Bell today (seriously).

Agree 100%. Frankly, I was getting sick of all the slobbering over Bell by the commentators. "What a great return of Le'veon Bell!" All the while a rookie RB had more yards rushing on far fewer touches.

Yes, they lost Mosley and that probably helped but still. ?

This has probably been discussed, but who was the OL(I think it was in the 4th quarter), who got knocked on his ass by the DL opposite him?   Holy cow...I thought for a second that Ducasse or Mills was still on the roster.

Can't remember specifically but I think Morse got pushed back into Allen on the sneak?

Its all just confirmation bias. If you had Josh scored low coming out, there is enough in the stats to confirm your bias. And before you scream "there is more to football than stats!", note that post is in a fantasy blog. Fantasy football is only stats.

Guess that's just another reason I don't play or follow FF. I'd rather just get a win, even a somewhat ugly win, against a division opponent in the season opener.

Going into game 1 there was a host of people who wanted DiMarco cut, said he doesn't do enough to warrant a spot... Some wanted WR Williams converted to FB lol

Yesterday showed why Dabolls likes and kept him. He lines up all over the field. He lines up in the backfield and blocks, he gets motioned out wide and blocks , he gets motioned out wide and runs routes

Playing FB in the NFL is super physically demanding, it takes a special breed and even Belechick has always utilized a FB

DiMarco offers versatility that not many other in the league offers. He splits out wide and catches passes and he does have good hands. But more importantly, the Bills will be running alot of rub routes and jailbreak screens for Beasley and McKenzie, and DiMarco getting split outwide offers a great blocking matchup with a FB on a CB or safety

    That's a mismatch I'll take all day

LOL! These comparisons to NE are kinda fun! ??

    You know what's interesting everyone?

I keep hearing 4 Turnovers by JA = Sucks, terrible Josh, bad Josh, etc.

Just a quick cursory look at Tom Brady's career and his # of 4 INT games is approaching double figures, and this doesn't include fumbles!

The Bills haven't been and won't be turning it over 4x a game. Does that sound like something McD would accept?

Was thinking of a similar comparison but didn't have the numbers. Nice job!

Yeah but he made quite a few glaring errors that should have been erased from his game by now, if he were to improve with each week.  No?

IDK about that. This was his, what ~12th regular season start? Rome wasn't built in a day.

Apples and oranges maybe but it took me 10 years to finally quit smoking-not that I think it'll take Allen that long to become great. I just believe deeply ingrained bad habits take far longer to break and relapses are many therein. He'll keep growing but it's going to take time.

I have been shouting this on twitter.  It is crazy how people can become so emotionally invested in a game that they lose all sense of what is really happening. The turnovers, in some peoples minds, completely erased how well we were moving the ball.  The offense was great all game.

THANK YOU! Sully started the "Fire Daboll?" thread and I just about lost it when I read a few tweets under it. My God, it's like no QB ever suffered a strip sack or ever had just purely bad luck during a game.

You're absolutely right that some of these people are judging Allen on every throw. And this is just the first game. SMH

Lmao!!!  Someone picked 5 or less?????  We won 6 last year with NP and DA starting 4 games, no WR help, a terrible OL, no run game, and a raw rookie QB.

We revamped all that and someone thinks we will be worse with an easier schedule in front of us?   Hahahaha someone needs therapy to deal with all the negative feelings they are harboring.

The Bills W/L speculation again is glass totally empty with no bottom ?

Lets do this like Electoral College style!  The way they predict which way the States will go---Leans blue, leans red, etc:

    Solid win:

    Miami 2x

    Vs Jets

    Vs. Bengals

    Vs. Redskins

    Vs. Broncos

    Leans win:

    @ Giants

    vs Baltimore

    Toss up:

    vs New England

    at Cleveland

    at Tennessee

    at Jets

    Leans Loss:

    vs Philly

    Solid Loss:

    at New England

    at Pittsburgh

    at Dallas

I moved the at Jets game from Leans Win to Toss Up due to potential weather.

    11-5.

Fyi I'm better than all 2016 pollsters.

Don't want to be overly optimistic (read "stupidly so") but Beane did say, roughly, "the last time I was in Dallas for Thanksgiving we went to the Superbowl"

  16. I'm going out on a limb and say 10-11 wins. Really like what McBeane did this offseason. Hopefully the chronically injured players can stay on (or actually make it to) the field.

Am kinda ambivalent about Yeldon but we'll see.

Losing Shady is a mix of good and bad but I guess we'll see how it plays out. Wish him all the best with the Chiefs.

As far as Motor goes, I Billeive he's just getting started on a great career.

I found it a little interesting that Singletary didn't play much last night. Can't imagine he's going anywhere. I'm 99% sure shady won't be here in a week.

Who are you, the Incredible Erskine?!? Man did you ever call it!

  18. 1 hour ago, BigDingus said:

Even though Shady looked to be past his prime, he was still a household name known around the country.

With him being released, who is their a player left who's name, jersey, personality, etc. brings attention to the team by themselves alone?

When McBeane took over, we had Sammy Watkins, LeSean McCoy, Marcell Dareus, and arguably Kyle Williams. We got rid of Watkins prior to the regular season starting, eventually picked up Kelvin Benjamin (who wasn't a "star" but was at least well known), then proceeded to trade or cut them, with Williams eventually retiring. Yes, I know we all know Jerry Hughes, he's great, but most people don't know a thing about him (not like he brings a lot of attention to himself either, which I'm fine with).

Most NFL fans tend to at least know the starting QB for each team, so Allen may be at least generally known, but aside from him we really don't have any recognition anymore. At this point, I think the 1 year rental RB in Frank Gore is our biggest "star." Ed Oliver could be the bigger name, but I'm not so sure many people associate him with the Bills or even remember he's a part of this team. Every time I discuss the Bills with my NFL friends, they seem to have already forgotten all about him.

Hell, I still hear far more about Nathan Peterman when discussing the Bills than anyone else by a LONG shot.

With that being said, who's most likely to jump to that status & become the name people will bring up most often in relation to the Bills? If they had to name a handful of players, who would be those names?

I'd say Devin Singletary, Ed Oliver (if he isn't already), Tremaine Edmunds and obvious Josh Allen if he can even just manage a solid year overall. Outside of that, we're pretty low on personality & national recognition, which I'm not saying is a "bad" thing, it just is what it is. The only bad thing is whether we're considered a desirable team for viewership potential. The lack of nationally televised games, or even games outside of the 1:00/12:00 CST time slot is heavily influenced by not only prior record, but by star power.

Market matters, but if a team has a lot of personality & intrigue surrounding its players, it becomes a hot candidate for prime time games.

    *************************

TL;DR - Do we have any real "stars" left? Who do you think potential future stars could be? Do those of you who live outside of Buffalo know people or have friends who don't follow the team but are aware of big name players?

Personally, I'd rather have a bunch of faceless nobodies who play all 4 quarters like the 2nd and 3rd stringers did in the last few minutes of Thursday night's game than a few "household names" who ultimately think they're bigger than the team.

Not ready to declare that after week 2 in the preseason. This is an intriguing team though.

Even though it is preseason I've been unable to unconvince myself that this team is different from everything I have seen since I became a Bills fan.

Every player I've seen interviewed is focused on "TEAM" first. No prima donnas have surfaced. With few exceptions (not mentioning namesTyreeJackson), even the 3rd stringers appear truly competent.

I think the word I'm looking for is "unity". I've noticed how Josh Allen and other key players mirror McDermott's language when speaking about other players' abilities/performance/skill set. "I appreciate (other player's name)......"

Every player holds himself accountable rather than throwing someone else under the bus or mealy mouthing. The way the sideline and position groups react to plays on the field. They're involved. I know there have been flashes of these qualities in years past but I believe this team is more bonded than any Bills team I've seen since 2006
