He can thank David Tyree and Mario Manningham for not being run out of NY 10 years ago.  He's never passed the eye test of being elite.  Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

I agree that Manning is overrated (actually, I don't think that many people rate him highly anyway) but you cannot give all the credit for those two plays to the receivers. On the Tyree catch Manning made an amazing play to avoid being sacked and to hang in there and spot the receiver. The Manningham play I've always seen as 50-50. Perfect throw and perfect catch.

You may as well say Montana should thank Clark for making The Catch.

And I will always have a special place in my heart for Manning as without him that arrogant bastard Brady would have another 2 Super Bowl wins and a perfect season to be smug about.

  2. They probably can't imagine what it would be like to just have that automatic expectation that the Bills would make the Super Bowl. Back then I just assumed they'd coast to the playoffs and then win every playoff game. When they went down to the Oilers I was genuinely shocked at the prospect of there being a Super Bowl without the Bills. Then they came back and I somehow wasn't as shocked at that.

  3. It's funny, the media make it sound like the NFL is really popular there, but it isn't. It's a tiny minority sport with a small section of hardcore fans. They're the ones who fill Wembley but all attend in the jerseys of the teams they support. No way they would change allegiance to support the Jags.

My thoughts? I still have nightmares about the 4 Superbowls and do not like to discuss them...I attended the 1st 3 and still hard to believe losing all 4

On the plus side at least you can always say you saw New Kids on the Block, Michael Jackson and Gloria Estefan live...

  5. Hostetler not fumbling wasn't the big turning point. The turning point was Andre Reed dropping an easy first down over the middle on the Bills following drive (because of the safety the Giants had to kick it back to the Bills immediately). At 12-3 up and the Bills with ALL the momentum, if they go down and score then, the Giants wouldn't have come back, not with that offense.

That game is just one long list of what ifs and should haves. If they'd given Thomas the ball more he would have ended up with about 250 yards rushing and about three or four TDs.

A hypothetical question from a game played 27 years ago??

Did you just wake up from a long nap?

Wow, 27 years ago. I still remember taking a dump at halftime as if it were yesterday.

  6. Way too many Bills fans here have never seen Reservoir Dogs. I hope they're not all watching Dirty Dancing and Sleepless in Seattle

After I read #4 I stopped reading. You are an ass.

Oh my lord. Even if you haven't seen the film surely you must wonder why a guy would talk about tipping in the middle of a long Bills post!

I kinda want to quote Sam Jackson's "pigs are filthy animals" bit from Pulp Fiction but I'm afraid I'll get all the animal rights activists after me.

  7. Said it before but will say it again, if I were Beane I'd try and trade down to get a second 2nd rounder, then grab a wr with my first rounder, plus a lineman and a second wr with my 2nd rounders. I'd go for maybe a TE in round 3 depending on what's there or another lineman.

Then grab a couple of receivers in FA plus a couple more linemen.

Hell, I'd use some of my later picks on linemen too. I don't just want new starters, I want to overhaul the depth as well.

  8. It's still early but you have to say these guys have done a great job of building the defense. It's starting to look really good and they've made some great pick-ups.

Once they decide to actually concentrate on the offense you have to have a little more faith that they'll build a good unit.

If we end up with a defense that plays like this and an offense that can actually score points, we'll be deadly. Imagine a team trying to play catch-up from a couple of TDs down against our defense the way it played today.
