To have an O you have to make it a priority and then hire people who think the passing game is important

I think Daboll believes the passing game is very important, if you look at what he did with Alabama's QB in the second half of that NC game he took that offense from the dumpster to winning a national championship by throwing the ball downfield.

He doesn't have the weapons  or the QB yet.  But you saw what he did with Barkley last week.   I think when Allen is ready that's what we will look like.   An offense that can push the ball downfield.

By the end of next season we will have a answer on Allen one way or another.

I don't agree with that.  I think we will know in 2020.   Allen wasn't a 1 year project.   I think starting him every game he is healthy from now until the end of 2019 is good because he needs to accelerate his learning curve.   But I never thought he was less than a 2 year project.  I wouldn't cut ties with him even if he struggles in 2019.    There are some things he needs to show, but if you look back at this year, how much has he really been able to learn other than how to run for his life from a pass rush.

He can't develop until he's got a clean pocket, we have only had that once this year and he was on the bench.

I'm pretty sure we will end up a top 10 unit this year. When you look at what is left schedule wise..... Bortles, the Jets again, the Dolphins twice and Detroit. Unless the Patriots absolutely whack us there is a fair chance this will end up a top 5 defense, wasted on a 5 win team.

Yea i didn't know our schedule was that weak down the line.   It sucks when you think about some of the winnable games we couldn't get done, like Houston, and there is no way Indy should have hung all those points on us.   We couldn't get any offense going in those games.    Hopefully they fix the offense in the offseason and we can come out and compete next year.   This could have easily been a 9 win season.

  4. This defense has done some great things this year.    Keeping Green bay at 22 was impressive.   Giving up the farm to Indy was not.   I think that when we're on, we are tough to beat, but when we aren't on, the wheels fall off quick.   We also gave Brady a tough time as well.   So it's tough to say but I think with some tweaks here and there we will be fine and next year I expect a top 10 unit.   If the offense can come around we could be better.

  5. Continuity is great when you have good players.   But the players can't be bad at what they do.   Cincy was fine with letting Bodine go after 4 seasons where he started a bunch of games, they drafted the kid from OSU and he was doing well until he got hurt.  I don't know if he's back yet but seems like they made the right decision letting him go.

We just need to find a winning combination and stick with it.  I like Dawkins and Teller, so that's something to build on.

....I'd bet McBeane already has a plan to defer some of that 80 to 2020 (think he can do it) and knows who the UFA's will be...just a thought............

I would hope that they run the 2019 offseason with an eye toward 2020 and free agents they will be looking to sign/extend.   2020 will be Tre White's 4th year they shouldn't wait just give him an extension then.  I would be ok with giving Shaq some mid level money to stay he's earning his pay now.   But if he wants 70 million I wouldn't hesitate to move on.

  7. I don't think it's unrealistic to think Lawson was right there waiting to be certified as a bust.  He was injured his rookie year, didn't do much of anything his sophomore season either.  Now he's finally developing into a solid NFL player and that's great.  But it wasn't set in stone I didn't think he'd make the roster this year, i figured since he was a Whaley pick he would be traded for at best a 4th round pick and we'd be done.  Glad I was wrong.  I hate being right when it comes to failings at draft picks.
