  1. Flip the breaker for the bathroom and change the light switch. A replacement switch costs less than a buck at any hardware store. Just remove the wires and connect them the same on the new switch.

If that doesn't fix it, you made need an electrician or a friend who knows a little more than you about electrical stuff.

  2. NY won't let him get away easy. They have a big set of rules related to domicile. It's more than just getting a drivers license or voting in a different state. They'll be watching how long he spends each year in NY or if he keeps a house in NY.

I'm sure that he can afford the tax lawyers to keep him clear, but after pissing off lots of politicians, they will be watching him closely.

  3. Good luck with trying to charge people for content that has been free until now. Where they might pick up revenue from subscribers, they will also lose a ton of advertising revenue from the much lower number of page views and ad clicks.

Not sure what the solution will be but it may be along the lines of learning how to put toothpaste back into the tube after its been squeezed out.

  4. Sadly, this is like the many of the Swiss watchmakers who never believed consumers would be willing to replace their watches with cheaper Japanese electronic watches. They refused to change, and many perished because of their unwillingness to embrace new technology. If the newspapers continue to be unwilling or unable to embrace the internet, they too will perish in time...

time waits for noone---adapt or die... every day the newspapers in this country continue to be in denial is another day closer to them being out of business. Unfortunate, but true. Personally, the only reason I even get the Sunday paper anymore is because of the coupons. Everything else I read online.

I beg to differ. One of the big reasons for their troubles is that they give the news away for free online. Every newspaper that I read is now available for free online with the exception of the WSJ which you have to pay for in order to see most of the content. Furthermore, the online versions is updated continuously. I think that the vast majority of papers would have a hard time getting online readers to start paying for something that they have always gotten for free.

The other BIG killer for papers has been Craigslist. Why pay for an ad in the paper if you can put it online for free and get fast results? It is amazing how slim the Buffalo News classified section has gotten in the past year. Very hard to compete with "free".

BTW, I still get the Buffalo News delivered every day but have thought about stopping it and just reading it online. Unfortunately, they haven't come up with a good online version to read while taking a crap.

  5. Damn. You're lucky. I can't stand the damn thing. I just can't sleep with it on. Literally I'll just lay there all night no matter how tired I am.

I've been using a cpap nightly for over 10 years. It's important to try several different types of masks to see which works best for you. I hate the nasal pillow type masks since they blow directly up your nose. Some dig into your nose, some headgears don't seem to fit my head right. I've been using an Ultra Mirage II that works well for me. Usually fall asleep in 5-10 min each night.

When I first started using one, my main problem was shallow breathing rather than apnea which would not have been corrected by surgery, so I never considered it. I have heard that the surgery is pretty painful and may not work at all in some cases. But, if you hate the mask, it might be worth doing.

  6. Sleep studies are about the easiest test to do. They attach a bunch of sensors to you and have you go to sleep. If they find that you have sleep apnea, they will usually wake you up and put a cpap mask on you to see if that corrects the problem.

They send the results to your doc who will write a script for a cpap machine and mask if you need it.

  7. I just bought a 2003 Beetle for my daughter. I was concerned about the reviews also. If you look at 100 reviews you find an even split between the worst car and the best car they ever owned. Consumer Reports also rate them at the bottom on reliability.

The carfax report on the car I bought listed all of the service that was done at VW dealers. Mostly oil changes and scheduled maintenance. I called the dealers listed and they faxed me the records of all of the work that they did on the car.

I bought a 36 month/38,000 mile warranty for about $1300. This way, I'm covered if it turns out to have problems.

I also plan to use synthetic oil and at least 89 octane gas, which are both recommended. I plan to properly maintain it and keep my fingers crossed.

    BTW, she LOVES the car.

  8. I would think that Denver would want to get a starting quarterback in return for Cutler along with a pick or a defensive starter.

NYJ, TB, Detroit, and Minn all have a need for Cutler, but none of them has a QB to include in a trade. The Bills may be a better trading partner for Denver because we could include Edwards in the trade. Cleveland could also be in there with Quinn or Anderson as part of the deal.

I just don't think that Denver would want to get only picks for Cutler as a rookie QB would not contribute for at least a year.

How about Edwards and Kelsay for Cutler? If they want they can have McCargo and Ellison too! <_<

  9. I had a nasty fight over the weekend with some <_< viruses. Not only did it slow my system to a crawl but it wouldn't allow me to run any av programs nor even go to the sites of any av or anti-malware software. It would just redirect me away from the site or block my access to the site.

It took me about a day to clean it up. Had to go into safe mode and finally got Trojan remover form Simplysoftware to run. It cleaned up enough for me to be able to run Spybot, Malwarebytes and Threatfire which then found more which allowed me to run Avira which cleaned up some more.

A major pain in the ass! I would love to waterboard the POS who wrote that virus.

It really seems that viruses are getting nastier and nastier. I had Symantec Endpoint Protection running along with Spybot SD-resident and neither protected me at all from this episode.

After this happened, I switched to Avira and Comodo firewall. Hopefully, they will protect better than Symantec Endpoint.

  10. I don't really think that the Pats* did anything wrong but I find it hard to believe all of the people arguing that the Pat* would rather have a 2nd rounder than a 1st because of the money risk and other rationalizations.

If that were true, then the Pats* should be willing to trade their 1st for our 2nd straight up or maybe throw in a "washed-up" linebacker to sweeten the deal.

Maybe it's just that Pioli has the video's of Bellicheat doing what he does best...cheating.

  11. What kind of files did you download? Most downloads are .avi files. These would have to be converted to dvd before you copy to a disk. You will need an avi to dvd converter. Be forewarned, the quality will probably be crappy once you burn to dvd.

Some dvd players will play avi files, including most Phillips players. Check to see if your player can play divx files. If so, just burn the avi files to a cd or dvd and you can watch them on your player.

DVDCopy and similar programs are made more for backing up (wink, wink) your store bought dvd's. Some bad people probably use these programs to copy dvd's from Blockbuster or Redbox.

  12. I have used Turbotax online to do free returns for my kids. You can put stuff in as you get it as it saves it each time that you sign out. If your income is below a certain level the federal return and e-filing are free.

They charge extra to do the state returns which sucks about it.
