@ work we have machine pits, covers, sumps that have to be checked daily.  Also catching lines from vessels.  Lots of "pinch points."

Should have one of these or similar.  Easy to make too... Bend some bar, etc...

I had a standard crowbar.  Unfortunately, it’s a drainage tank that was blocked, and I was by myself.  Instead of hooking one end of the manhole cover and trying to pull it up, I put the crowbar in, raised it up enough to get my fingers in (done that many times before), and as soon as I went to lift up, the crowbar shifted and the cover came slamming down on my fingers.  It was a pain I can’t even describe.

Two weeks ago, I was doing a subdivision inspection where my coworker got his finger tip ripped off by a manhole lid.  (The lid came crashing down on his hand.)

    It was friggin' awful!

I actually wrote about that happening to me earlier in this thread.  Happened in September.  Let me just say I feel awful for your coworker because that is brutal.  Didn’t rip off any part of my finger, but it ripped the skin, requiring stitches on both sides of my middle finger and one side of my index finger.  Fingernails fell off about a month ago (nearly 1.5 months after injury).  They are slowly coming back.  I think my nail bed is somewhat damaged, but it’s nothing I would consider fixing unless it somehow causes pain later.

Yup, i normally plan on 4.5-5 hours, i figured the morning drive down would be fairly good, i didn't expect the return trip (4:45 PM) to be even quicker

Not bad.  I don’t know if there is any alternative to 95 to get to Richmond from there (97 in Baltimore to 50/301 to Richmond?) but I will say whenever I go to buffalo, I completely avoid 95 north to 270 and just take 17 to 66 to 81, hit some backroads for a bit till I get to Breezewood PA.  95 is such a joke down here and I don’t know if they will ever be able to fix it.  A 60 mile drive can take 1.5 hours one day, then 3 hours the next.  I’ve used navigation coming home just to get a rough estimate on time, and I’ll just watch that estimated time of arrival push back further and further.  I’ll start with an ETA of 4:00, but won’t get home till 6:00.

If i were to ever run for political office, my first 2 orders of business would be to mandate, if a female is not married or engaged, she is FORBIDDEN from wearing a ring on the ring finger and the opposite is true for those married or engaged.  Second would be death penalty for people in the left lane not passing, and if they are passing not doing it fast enough.

I drove from my place outside of Philly to Richmond and back yesterday(Sunday 11/18) via 95 the entire way....both trips were under 4 hours.  I have never done it that quickly before.  I was amazed

It is typically about 3:30 hours to Philly, from exit 130 (Fredericksburg), which is an hour north of Richmond, when leaving during a random time, like at night.  For you to do that on a Sunday is amazing.  Typically, it comes to a stop around mile marker 118 to 124 or so going north on Sunday, and 118 to 130 (12 miles) can take over an hour.  Couple that with thanksgiving this week and you hit the jackpot somehow.

When Bills started 0-8 It was the worse I've ever seen the bills play since I became a fan in 1988. (7 years old ) But at the same time they were in every single game and made it very competitive. They could've actually won 5 of them games . But by far I've never seen Bills play this bad. Things are so bad they made a go fund me account for Peterman ! From last season to this season a complete 360, so what exactly is the process ? I feel like I should know longer trust it. As a fan I would definitely take 2010 over this season any day. I will continue to root for my bills and hope for the best. GO BILLS

    Did you know........

if a team did a complete 360 from last year, they would be the same?

So so we are going back to the playoffs everyone!!!!  Get ready.  It starts Sunday!

I'm 30, so you might say young. I think what's sad is that as I feel my emotional investment dwindling on a game-by-game basis (daughter and career...), I worry that I won't feel the positive emotions as much when we actually do become successful. That would be a shame after all these years feeling the pain so much.

I agree that as time goes by and the yearly recurring dismal seasons pass, it gets harder to care.  But I guess that’s a good thing because honestly, we fans probably care more about our teams than the players do.  I think what finally “clicked” for me was getting so angry at the outcome, then watching the tv coverage show players shaking hands and laughing and joking like what happened was no big deal.  If it’s not a big deal to the ones playing, I couldn’t let it be a big deal to someone just watching from home.

When we are finally good again, I’ll be excited.  But winning it all today will not feel the same as it would have if we win it all in 2005 for example.  My priorities just changed.  It still matters, and like I said, I schedule my Sundays around football season.  But I won’t let the outcome ruin my entire week.

  7. I’m guessing the OP is young.  When I went to the Bills/Cowboys MNF game, a Dallas fan came up and hugged me to gloat.  I didn’t assault him but I pushed him off me and he fell down the aisle steps.  I was 26 back then.  Now I’m married, have kids and a career, and couldn’t imagine getting that upset over a game.  I love the Bills, schedule my sundays around them, but who could possibly be that upset after a game where the outcome was known prior to kickoff?

Would we be in this same shape had he stayed? I'm not by any means condoning his behavior, or disputing his firing. But would he have allowed the roster to even get to the point where Peterman and Derek Anderson are the only viable options at QB? Would he allow the dead cap space we have?

Didn’t he just get fired this year?  So he was here when the 2018 roster took shape.

  9. 1: Bills/Redskins SB.  I am from, and still live in VA. Everyone is Redskins or Cowboys down here.  When we played Washington, everyone was pulling for Washington.  So I took the underdog and it stuck.  Which leads to #2.

2: What I love most is probably the underdog mentality of the team and fans.  Sort of an “us against the world” mentality.  We love our team.  We love the city (myself included despite never living in buffalo).  The constant hope and dreaming of what it would be like to win it all.  I often wonder if we win the SB, would my passion diminish a bit, because what else is left?

3:  I have a few.  Most of the playoff years of the late 80s and 90s was while I was a child to early teen years.  This was prior to Sunday Ticket and I was too young to have my dad (redskins fan who can watch on local broadcast anyways) to take me to a bar.  So one of my favorite memories was when we went up against the Titans.  That obviously ended poorly.  Second, landing Bledsoe.  I thought we’d have a quality QB for the first part of my adult fan hood.  Third, 31-0 against NE.  I thought I was about to see a great season with a great team, and I was finally able to start watching every game.  Fourth, the 6 game winning streak in 2004.  What a comeback to the season, then that went up in flames.  Finally, making the playoffs last year and the videos that followed.  Never met a single person from the videos and they all felt like family.

  10. I know some people don’t like the morning show on WGR, but Jeremy white said something the first hour that stood out.  I don’t recall if this was his thought or if he was repeating somebody else.

Maybe not the exact quote, but he said something along the lines of, “if you have the best offense in the league with the worst defense, you’re the chiefs.  If you have the best defense in the league with the worst offense, you’re the Bills.”

That sums up my answer.  Which team would you rather have right now?

Fielding grounds balls in the spring indoors in the gym. Coach liked to hit as hard as he could. Got lazy and put my throwing hand in front of my glove and the ball hit the tip of my index finger. Picked up the ball and threw it in only to see an arc of blood follow the throw. Didn't hurt, then.... Only a line of red under my fingernail. Went to the ER where doc squeezed the tip from the sides and I saw the bright white bone that was supposed to be within my finger pop out and with the nail now at a 90 degree angle. The pain came with the anesthetic when he jammed a needle under the nail. Repeatedly.... The worst pain I ever experienced. He ripped the nail off and sewed the skin back around the bone.  High ankle sprains, broken jaw, breaks, shot in the neck, nothing compared with that experience.

I can only imagine how that felt.  I think I mentioned earlier in this post that I had my fingers crushed.  If I didn’t mention that, it’s up there for pain.  A manhole cover came down on my index and middle finger.  I don’t know if people are familiar with manhole covers, but this one is a lid for a 1000 gallon storage tank.  The cover sits flush against the wall, so when it came down, I’m surprised it didn’t cut my fingers off altogether.  It’s about 300-400 pounds.  So when it came down, naturally I ripped my fingers out from under it and it ripped the skin on the palm side of each finger, and the top of my middle finger.  Both nails are still black but still attached (this was last month).  But the pain from the dr sticking the needle in the wound was awful.  It felt like the needle was hitting the underside of my fingernail.  Awful.  So I sympathize with major finger injuries.

  12. I’m not a sign this player or that player who gets released kind of person, but I really wish we would at least make some sort of move to shake things up a bit.  I know a #1 or even a #2 type of receiver isn’t really available right now, but nobody will convince me that there’s not at least one guy available who could upgrade the bottom part of the roster at receiver.
