I live in Florida in Bucs country so I do occasionally hit up a sports bar to watch. This year is looking like a sit home watch NFL network and possibly open the laptop with some take out wings and beer hoping we trade up so I can scream in Joy and run around the house. I'll try not to kick a hole in the dry wall this year!

The Bucs are a fun team to watch

Where did you used to go downtown to watch the draft? I'm a UB student and usually just watch it with friends at someone's house, but that sounds better.

We bounced....Chippewa, Franklin, Deleware Sts....but alot of fun places in the Amherst/Getzville area too, Maple, Millersport etc.....but that was 7+ years ago. NOW, Id go to the 716 Sports Bar at HarborCenter, something about a 38ft screen......My next trip back Ill be there

  3. This may have previously been posted, if so my apologies.  How do you take in the draft?  For years when I was in Amherst NY, a mile from UB north, we’d get together with a bunch of friends go downtown and have a fun night. But I missed alot of the analytical stuff with all the hootin and hollerin. Now in Florida for 7 years and not a ton of Bills fans around me, I tell the wife Im not available draft weekend, have the tv on, the laptop and ipad with draft trackers and kick back.  Wifey says Im the only one that does this.......am I lol?

I don't see the reasoning here.  Rosen and Mayfield are really the only fellas who could possibly start day one.  You aren't drafting for day one; you're drafting for a franchise qb who might be leading your team for a decade or longer.  You sign AJ because you don't want Peterman to be your primary backup, because AJ can conceivably start for a season or a substantial part of a season while the potential franchise guy develops.

I'd be fine with Rosen or Mayfield, btw, but I am also fine with Darnold or Allen.

Id be fine with them as well at #12 or #22.  You hear it every year, top draft picks are expected to start.  I still have this feeling that Beane will fill the holes, build the team they want, and make a big splash next season in free agency. I could be totally wrong but I certainly see your point. I really dont think you will see the QB’s fly off the board like some think

They had to sign someone, why not the cheapest of the bunch....?? It seems this is the last qb you should have this argument with.... bc in fact most view that AS a reason to do it - not against

True and true.....but, Im not convinced YET that AJM cant be the man. Im not against taking a QB, far from it......just dont sell the farm in doing so.

Thanks. I like Rosen too but fear he might be the next Sam Bradford.

    My rankings:

    1) D'arnold  floor: Andy Dalton  Ceiling: Eli Manning

    2) Rosen flloor: Sam Bradford  Ceiling: Phil Rivers

    3) Jackson: Floor: Vince Young  Ceiling:  Steve Young

    4) Allen  Floor: B Bortles  Ceiling:  Ben Rothlusberger

    5) Mayfield. Floor: Case Keenum  Ceiling: D Brees

But I could live with any.

Im thinking your Mayfield/Brees comparison is bang on

10 guys out of hundreds drafted in those later rounds.

True, but it happens. Who said Beane will even be drafting a QB that late? Take a look at 2nd and 3rd rounders in the past......My point is if a good deal is there Beane bites, if not sit tight.  Keep in mind the huge cap space the Bills will have after this season.

  7. Interesting take. Some late round nobodies if I might throw out there....

    Tom Brady #199

    Roger Staubach #129

    Bart Starr #199

    Joe Theismann #99

    Mark Rypien #146

    Matt Hasselbeck #187

    Brad Johnson #227

    Rich Gannon #98

    Mark Brunell #118

    Mark Bulger #168

All multiple Pro Bowlers except for Bulger (just 1 for him) I wont go into the SB wins/appearances.  I have not addressed late round 1, Rd 2 &3 QB picks and what those ‘nobodies’ might have done

Smith will probably cost an extra 3rd to jump the Raiders but I would be all for that. Part of me wonders if getting him has been the plan all along, and the supposed connections to the top 3 QBs has been a smokescreen.

Bang on. Im thinking if a QB they love falls to 12 they bite, but the D has some holes, and more to come after Kyle. Their thought could be to go with AJM this year and their franchise QB will be acquired in FA in 2019.

    Seriously.

I know that people here really believe in him... why?

Plenty of past NFL players have been drafted for physical potential (Ryan Leaf, RG3, Jamarcus Russell, Blaine Gabbert, Blake Bortles, etc) and have simply flamed out.

I've never seen a college QB so devoid of college production being propped up this much based off of what I can only believe to be purely physical potential.

It's head scratching and infuriating because this guy looks like a project 2nd or 3rd round QB at best, to me.

What are people focused on? Throws he can make??? Haven't we had enough of these project QBs that are "balls of clay" for us to mold?

    There's something I'm missing.

    What is it?

I know there isn't a single QB in the NFL HOF with his forgettable production from a second-rate college football program like Wyoming. Is he supposedly going to break that trend?

What the hell... someone explain this to me so I can get behind him sooner rather than later if we draft him...

    hopefully, we don't.

People are buying into the ratings hype. Ive read so many articles of reporters saying the Bills trade 4 picks, including next years 1st, just to take a shot for a guy who could be a total bust.Unless Beane can work some magic, I hope we stick with our 2 picks, we have too many holes. The ultimate example of course is Tom Brady selected #199, 6th round......I still say we take a QB with one of our 1st rounders.

    Stahp.

    Glenn had value.

If he was so trash and just being unloaded, why did Cincinnati move BACK 9 spots to get him??

Glenn was used as extra value, in addition to the #21 pick, and the late rnd pick swapping, to allow Buffalo to move up to #12.

You are literally talking out of your ass if you think Glenn was an "unload" and getting moved up from 21 to 12 was just "bonus"

I never said Glenn was trash.  He was in sickbay more than on the field.  Cap space brother.....

Honest to God.  Enough already.  The Jets now might get whomever their third choice is.  The Bills can move ahead of them if they decide they have to get a certain guy.  If not they have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds and the Jets  gave a bunch away for the potential third guy they may want out of a group that does not seem to have a can't miss type player.

Yep....and Bills win again. Every move Beane has made has been a winner, good poker face too. I truly believe if a deal works for Beane he will make sure its a win for the Bills, he will pull the trigger. If not we got all them picks. This guy so far reminds me of a bank.....doesnt matter what transaction you do, the bank wins.

  12. 3 hours ago, Madmax09 said:

I agree.  I think it's ridiculous what the jets gave up to move 3 spots. I'm so glad we did not make that move.

Agreed.....and if we did the trade up it would have cost much more. Seems to me people on here are very passionate, but throwing away all those picks to move up 8 or 9 spots is just crazy and desperate.  People get caught up in all the hype, Think long term here. The Bills brass still might move up some if the deal works. AJM is more ready than any QB in the draft.

I think they may stay put and go that route.  McCarron can really sling it.  Coach him up and use all of our picks to build a great young team.

I agree and think this might be their thinking. Beane is a slick GM who wont sell the farm. They will select a QB in the first round but hang onto their picks. They can do some serious team building, bring in their guys......I mentioned in another post, AJM is hungry and a winner, that is exactly who you want over center.

I've said it before.  I'd be ok with LB (Smith ideally) and Rudolph.   I actually think Rudolph will end up the best QB in this draft.

Bingo. That would be smart drafting and still have all our picks to build this team for years to come. Beane seems slick, I wouldnt be surprised if he takes this route.  He would be the GM of the century if AJM lights it up too. Keep in mind the trade with the Bengals was to UNLOAD Glenn, the pick swap was added bonus in the deal, imo.  Many see this as moving up for a QB, I see it as moving on from an injury prone OT and getting a sweet pick in doing so.

  15. New guy here......Ive always enjoyed tbd.....interesting thoughts on trading up and imo giving a kings ransom for the #3 pick.  We all love the sexy pick, go up and get our QB, but you can sure do a ton of team building with all those picks.  Id hate to see a repeat of EJ (and I always loved the guy).  AJM was a backup to the Bengals franchise guy Dalton, who knows what his ceiling is when the Bills are HIS team, he did win 2 national titles. This guy is hungry and wants his payday too, just the kind of guy you want. Still draft a QB, just dont trade away your draft wealth.
