Why do people harp on and on about a player just because they played college locally?

Oh I wasn't harping on him cause of his local status... I'm looking to add someone that can turn into a potential #1 threat! Right now at this point...its slim pickings... Anthony Johnson is the only one left that with good coaching can turn into that player for us. Our WR's just isn't enough... like someone else posted "The WR position is like Nate Peterson... we can see the train wreck about to happen"

Like I said in another thread:

This draft has proven to me that the Bills can get great value at every single pick, attack areas of need, receive universal praise nationally from both mainstream and analytics nerd outlets....and there will STILL be a ton of whining and griping from people simply because the Bills didn't pick exactly who these people wanted them to pick.

This year's gripers seem to have one thing in common: They wanted WRs, and they're upset that the Bills didn't take any, so they've decided to ***** on every pick the Bills make regardless, just because it isn't who THEY wanted. I even see a lot of "Bills should've taken X player at that spot", even though the player that said fan wanted wound up going like a full round later. Value is a real thing in the draft. You don't just say "I'm taking a WR next round come hell or high water!"

Anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it never ceases to amaze me how much people will whine just because the team didn't do what THEY wanted. I shouldn't be surprised, I guess, because it happens ever year, but sheesh.

For anyone sick of the negativity, I suggest taking a break from TBD and reading just about any national outlet's coverage of the Bills draft, because outside of the TBD bubble, it's hard to find anyone knocking what the Bills have done.

I agree! Like I said in my original post, I know in my heart this is a good draft... I'm a little disappointed they didn't address WR. But that doesn't take away from the value & picks they brought in... my favorite pick right now is the one everyone doesn't like Singletary. I think come next year whe. we don't have Shady or Gore... this kid is a bell cow... & everyone is going to forget they didn't want him this year. He gives us youth at the position. Something we were lacking for sure!

A 3rd round pick is a relatively large commitment to a RB. I think they must view Singletary as an eventual 3 down back. It's not great value otherwise.

I wouldn't be particularly happy if RB is still a need next offseason.

It might be, Gore & Shady might not be here come next year bother have 1 yr left & I doubt they're going to extend any offers.

Yet.  If our OL is good and Allen has time.....plus his legs to extend plays, not many guys are going to be able to cover Beasley and Brown for too long.  They will get open.  Especially Beasley.  Brown and Foster take them deep, Beasley over the middle. Play breaks down, line holds up and Allen moves out of the pocket.  Deep WRs work back while Beasley does what he does.  Creates separation and catches the ball for 1st downs.

my worry about our WR unit is them staying healthy.  2 of our best 3 WRs are midgets in the nfl.  If they stay relatively healthy, I think we have enough talent to have a passing game that can scare a defense.  Josh’s legs have to be accounted for in the passing game and will help these guys get open

    I can get behind this

Calm down skip, that’s why I was asking - I know BR has some legit trustworthy content creators now - I just wanted more info on this particular guy because I wasn’t familiar with him.

BR was founded in ‘07, and has been a cesspool for most of its existence, so not sure where you’re getting your “15 years” from by the way chief. ?

Just hypothetically speaking .... they've been around for a while...is what I was getting at

For all the guys moaning and groaning for Hakeem Butler and why we didn’t take him at 74. If he is sooooo good, why is he still sitting there at pick 101 right now. That means he’s lasted 27 picks(almost a full round) after the Bills took Singletary.

Heres why. He’s slow to get moving. It takes him a long time to get up to speed. He’s not a good route runner and will fail to gain separation in the NFL. He also has a history of drops and struggles against physical Corners who get into his chest plate.

The problem is people watch his highlights and see a huge WR who has made some fantastic one handed catches and think the guy is unstoppable. He’s Kelvin Benjamin

    Hmmmm... ?

I took it as this being a defense loaded draft, & this not being that great of a WR class is the reason why he's slipping. I felt AJ Brown was the best WR in this class & the defense totally pushed him down the boards.  I hear ya but we'll see... Ridley Riley is still there too & So is Anthony Johnson... I just feel like there's alot of O-linemen & D-Line run right now along with some Corners that's about to fly off the board in the 4th

Because 30+ year old RB’s don’t hold up well.  Kind of ridiculous we are paying McCoy $6m this season.  Beane must be worried about the locker room impact of letting McCoy go.

He's not your average 30 year old RB, great RB's don't slow down when they hit 30. Shady still has a good 2-3 seasons in him to hit 1200 yards rushing & catch 50 passes. Plus his $6M isn't hurting our cap.

No, it's not the only way to handle it. Plenty of teams take a ton of picks. Cincy had 11 last year, Denver had 10, Green Bay had 11, and I'm only up to the Gs, in one draft. That wasn't "what those 4th rounders were there for." They were there to be maximized. Could've been used, or traded for more picks, or whatever.

You don't have to get all that lucky to do well with a later pick. Milano was a 5th. Taron Johnson too. Fourths especially have a pretty reasonable record of producing contributors. The more picks the better, but if you have a better use for them, that's OK too. So far, this regime has been excellent at the draft, so I'm willing to believe them that this stands a decent chance of being a very good use of the picks.

I can get behind this too... but I get the guy's argument of the 4th rd picks... I'd rather them use those lower picks to get better picks rather then drafting Ray Ray McCould & Austin Proehl who's not even on the team anymore.

If they can take those 2 7th's along with their 5th... to move back into the 4th...& draft Hakeem Butler... then awesome! I'll take that all day

Matt Miller is one of the best draft guys in the business as has been for a number of years. His scouts notebook column each week during the college football season is a must read.

I did love the line "Knox might not have a load of production but he played with a bad Quarterback in a team that had Metcalf, Brown and Lodge catching the ball.... this isn't Iowa where they just throw to the Tight End every play"

    ???

    Hock jock sniffers take note.

Yo I can't stop laughing at this post! Nice! ?????????

Forgive my ignorance, who is matt miller exactly? Obviously I see he covers the draft for BR, but BR is full of wannabes and know-nothings pretending to know stuff. Does he have a actual pedigree beyond BR?

11 years ago....yea... now they've probably WAY MORE credible then Mel Kiper & his ESPN crew. They do some good work like NDT.com

What do these B/R draftniks think of the Dawson Knox pick?

Two 4th round picks is too expensive?

What kind of car do you drive?

My biggest issue with this pick is not the player.  He could turn out to be awesome.  My only concern is giving up 2 4th round picks to get him.  But, it looks like Beane is starting to feel like our roster is getting very close to where he wants it to be and that the chances of these lower round guys making the team is slim.  If that's the case, then this makes giving up the 2 4th rounders a bit easier to swallow.

Some good points... if this is the case... then trade your 5th & 6th & one of your 7th's to get back in the 4th & take Butler. Going off your point... I'm good with not having to draft guy's that's probably gonna end up cut of practice squad.

    2 hours ago, MJS said:

When you have 10 picks you use them to trade up and get better picks. That's what those 4th rounders were there for. And I hope the Bills use more of their lower picks to trade up a bit again. Having a bunch of 4th round and below guys on your team is not super helpful. Yes, you might get lucky with one of them, but generally speaking the higher a guy is drafted the better career he'll have. Generally.

If its Hakeem Butler...then heck yea! He isn't your normal 4th Rd pick... its head scratching why he's still available. I'm guessing defense out shine the position this year. Cause Butler is a good talent... that was projected a 1st rd pick

I look at the Yeldon signing as insurance. Gore will be 36 come preseason, and I have a hard time believing he will be an upgrade from Ivory. The only thing that surprised me about the Singletary pick was that they didn't draft more of a downhill runner. But, I don't hate the pick AT ALL. I think he will be a fun guy to watch, and if his elusiveness can translate to the NFL, he could develop into something special, imo.

Or better yet...draft a WR instead of a RB.

  12. Even though I know in my heart this is a good draft... I'm left a tad disappointed that we haven't address WR yet... but man Adam Lefkoe, Matt Miller & Conner Rogers just gave our GM the highest praise I've ever seen in a longtime!

It's definitely a treat for every person on this board to watch this video!

They even went so far to call other teams "Stupid" for allowing the Bills to do what they're doing ???

Enjoy... & yea... let's discuss how everyone is feeling so far about the draft too... we don't have ANY 4th Rd picks, so we won't see any action until about 2pm tomorrow afternoon.

????  I'm already ready coming to the notion our front office doesn't value WR at all... we have no young talent to grow with Allen to be his main WR... John Brown & Cole Beasley has been in this league for a few years & nobody is losing sleep facing those two.  We had a few times to take a WR & didn't... why draft a QB if your not going to give him his "Kelly to Reed" "Young to Rice" ect. Smh

Love what they've done to the offensive line but they must really love their skill position room on offense.... and I have no idea why.

Average group of WRs and our TEs are Tyler Kroft and Croom, who's only on the roster because he's banging the owners daughter.

Yea Scott... don't understand it myself smh.  At least take a stab at Hakeem Butler... my goodness nobody is scared of John Brown & Cole Beasley

A third round TE? One with virtually no potential to be anything more than a role player? I mean we'll pump whoever we pick up, but doesn't mean  he'll, ever be any good. 3 TE are already gone. So we're in pretty weak territory here for skill players.

Exactly! That TE ship gas sailed! Nobody on the board is better than Tyler Kroft.

Hakeem Butler was a potential 1st Rd pick.. is still there.. I'll take him 74th ... WR's are running off the board

I'm shocked that so many here are ok with our current WR corps, as is.

Right! Like don't get me wrong...I'm happy we upgraded... but let's be honest, John Brown & Beasley didn't scare anyone on the Cards, Ravens & Cowboys... it just shows how bad our WR corps was.

If the Cowboys felt Beasley was a strong enough threat, they wouldn't have gave up their 1st for Cooper.  Can we have a Cooper to go with Beasley??? Why do we always have to settle for the mediocre group?

    11 hours ago, VaMilBill said:

Frankly I don’t think DK would scare anyone either. He’s a poor route runner, doesn’t high point the ball and has long injury history. I’m a huge Ole Miss fan and I couldn’t believe people were talking about him as a first or second round pick. He’s just a physical specimen which is what a lot of people are enamored with

No he's not...stop listening to the wrong people.

He can run the routes needed for his position... No he's not going to run the Edelman & Beasley routes... but neither can Julio, AJ Green, Keenan Allen, Mike Evan's, Alshon Jeffrey... it's rare you get the big tall guy's that can run routes like Larry Fitz & Thielen.

But that doesn't mean guy's like Mike Evans can't find a way to be productive in the league... you have more than just Go routes... DK can run the deep post, In, Outs & slants... we don't need him running curl routes smh
