That reminds me of a joke from a stand up comedian...
I just broke up with my girlfriend. Next time I’m going to save up my money and get a good one.

Roll along, roll on
Rose of Cimarron
Dusty days are gone
Rose of Cimarron
Shadows touch the sand and
Look to see who's standin'
Waitin' at your window
Watchin', will they ever show
Can you hear them callin'
You know they have fallen
On campfires cold and dark
That never see a spark burn bright -

As I'm sure most of you have heard, Florida set a new record for Covid cases today. (Florida Man's reaction? "WooHoo! We beat the record!!!") The governor seems to be saying the only reason the number of cases are so high is there is much more testing going on. So if we don't' test there are no cases. Now that's just freakin' brilliant!
There are claims that if there isn’t enough testing then the deaths can be attributed to other causes, such as pneumonia, stroke, organ failure, autoimmune disorders, etc. That way they can keep the covid death count low to make it seem like it’s no big deal. You can find news articles that take both sides in that argument. Science isn’t supposed to be about taking sides and arguments, but we’re talking about Florida. -
I retired a year ago, and I maintain contact with a few of my co-workers. There were a several who had similar views with me, and we would solve all the world’s problems with our conversations. As I was approaching retirement, we spent way too much time with those conversations.
There were a few who were too far to the left, and a few more who were too far to the right compared to me. I don’t like this left-right classification, since I can be liberal on things like health care and education, but pre-Trump conservative on things like state’s rights and a strong military.
I would carefully converse with people who I suspected that I might not agree with in order to try and understand their views. I can honestly say that I learned something from those conversations, but I don’t think they ever caused me to change my opinions significantly

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time -

Lost control and rang your bell, I was sore
Let me in or else I'll beat down your door
When two strangers who have been two silhouettes on the shade
Said to my shock, "You're on the wrong block"
Rushed out to your house with wings on my feet
Loved you like I'd never loved you, my sweet
Vowed that you and I would be two silhouettes on the shade
All of our days, two silhouettes on the shade -
As long as I remember
The rain's been comin' down
Clouds of mystery pourin'
Confusion on the groundGood men through the ages
Tryin' to find the sun
And I wonder, still I wonder
Who'll stop the rain- 2

If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you each step of the way
And I will always love you
I will always love you- 1

The Jets haven’t been that good for most of the past several years. Therefore losing to the Jets stings. I can say the same thing about the Dolphins. Not hatred, just very, very annoying.
In Central NY there are a lot of Bills fans, a few Jets fans, and many Giants fans. The idea that someone in Central NY would root for a New York City area AFC team rather than the Bills always seems strange to me. -
Did you ever have to finally decide?
And say yes to one and let the other one ride?
There's so many changes and tears you must hide.
Did you ever have to finally decide?
Sometimes there's one with big blue eyes, cute as a bunny,
With hair down to here, and plenty of money,
And just when you think she's that one in the world,
Your heart gets stolen by some mousy little girl- 1

There's a ship lies rigged and ready in the harbor
Tomorrow for old England she sails
Far away from your land of endless sunshine
To my land full of rainy skies and gales
And I shall be aboard that ship tomorrow
Though my heart is full of tears at this farewellFor you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell -
Hear that whistle, it's ten o'clock
(Don't let go, don't let go)
Come on, baby, it's time to rock
(Don't let go, don't let go)
I'm so happy I got you here
(Don't let go, don't let go)
Keeps me grinning from ear to ear
(Don't let go, don't let go)
Ooh wee, this feeling's killing me
Aw shucks, well, I wouldn't
Stop for a million bucks
I love you so, just hold
Me tight and don't let go -
Good golly Miss Molly, sure like to ball
Good golly, Miss Molly, sure like to ball
When you're rockin' and a-rollin', can't hear your momma callFrom the early, early mornin' till the early, early night
When I caught Miss Molly rockin' at the house of blue light
Good golly, Miss Molly, sure like to ball
When you're rockin' and a-rollin', can't hear your momma call -
I fall to pieces
Each time I see you again
I fall to pieces
How can I be just your friend? -
Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you an answer in the morning
I gotta know right now
Do you love me? (Let me sleep on it)
Will you love me forever? (Baby, baby let me sleep on it)
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy (let me sleep on it)
For the rest of my life? (I'll give you an answer in the morning)
Will you take me away (I'll give you an answer in the morning)
I gotta know right now -
Or is it in his face, oh no it's just his charm
In his warm embrace, oh no that's just his arm
If you want to know, if he loves you so
It's in his kiss
That's where it is, oh it's in his kiss
That's where it is, oh-ohKiss him and squeeze him tight
And find out what you want to know
If it's love, if it really is
It's there in his kiss -
Your love is fadin', I feel it fade
Ah, your love is fadin', I feel it fade
Ah, your love is fadin', woman I feel it fadeAh, woman, woman your touch, your touch has gone cold
As if someone else controls your very soul
I've fooled myself long as I can
Can feel the presence of another man -
We're running with the shadows of the night
So baby take my hand, you'll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They'll come true in the end- 1

Yellow river, yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river, yellow river is in my blood, it's the place I love
Got no time for explanations, got no time to lose
Tomorrow night you'll find me
Sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river -
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and your chicks for free
Will Violence kill another revolution?

I’m not sure that the movement in the 1960s was as futile as the OP makes it sound. After Vietnam the US had about 25 years of relative peace and prosperity. Things around the world simmered during those 25 years, and now they are starting to boil again. That doesn’t mean the 1960s were futile, it means things are cyclical. Perhaps we’ll have a Democrat president, with inflation and higher taxes sometime soon, like Jimmy Carter all over again. I think the current policies of cutting taxes, increasing spending, and printIng money are leading us down that path.
