  1. If you trade a second round pick and a solid corner for a number 1 receiver, you'd expect him to be more productive and not be the decoy in an offense.  I understand he can make that offense better by drawing coverage but how much do you pay a decoy these days?  I am not sure.  If I am trading for a wideout, I'd rather bring in a guy that will be more productive.  Do we really think he's happy there?  He's a wide receiver who's clamored for his targets and hasn't gotten them.  To me, they made a dumb move trading for him and not targeting him more.  However you want to slice it, Sammy hasn't put up the Julio Jones type production.  Isn't that what we traded two first round picks for?  If the Rams traded for him just to play him as a decoy, he's not resigning there and they traded some hefty assets for having a player 1 year.  JMO.  I'm not saying Sammy is terrible, he's a gifted player but his production compared to what teams have traded to acquire him, is less than encouraging.  Fact is, Sammy is not needed in that offense, just a player with speed that can stretch the field.

As I asked Teef, how many Rams games have you watched?  WRs are dependent upon how often the QB throws to them.  Goff throws to Kupp as if he were his only option a lot of the time.  As Goff matures and gets more confidence in Watkins and Woods, as well as defenses start double covering Kupp, Goff should start throwing the ball to his other options more often.  Even without having as many targets as he should have, Woods is on pace to get at about 800-900+ yards (I'm not sure if the Rams have played 8 or 9 games).

The point is, however, not whether the Bills should have gotten rid of one or both Woods and/or Watkins but rather whether they were "inconsistent" as WRs.  They weren't in Buffalo, and they aren't in LA.

Guess I just don't agree.  In an offense that will likely pass for about 4,000 yards, I think a guy that was brought in to be the number one via trade should be getting at least five catches a game or about 75-90 catches on the year.  Watkins has had 3 games with 1 catch, 1 with no catches and a game with 2 and 3 catches.  That's just not good enough to warrant giving up such assets and that taking on a larger salary. I just need more production to say he's doing well.  It's not that I don't want him to do well.  To me, he's just not living up to the hype.  He had the hype to be the next Julio Jones or Antonio Brown but just fell flat.  The center of the offense weapon that'd be unstoppable hasn't happened yet.  I hope he gets there some day though.

Amazes me the # here hell-bent on defending this FO.  How a single poster could not see that this team could be so much better with those two defies logic.

Of course they can be better but at what cost?  How much would you pay Sammy for his mediocre production this year being that he's on a contract year?  I think that's a tough question...because he's been inconsistent over his career with dealing with injuries and a lack of big production on the field.  Two games with over three catches this year...okay man.

This is just so much BS.  Watkins wasn't "inconsistent".  He sustained an injury that took a long time to heal and he made some statements about WR pay structure in general that the Bills FO used as a rationalization to move him out.  Woods wasn't "inconsistent" either.  The Bills just didn't want to pay him the going rate for veteran WRs of his caliber.  Furthermore, Woods has been anything but "inconsistent" for the Rams.  He's caught 31 passes for 451 yards (which may be only slightly less than the Bills current WRs' yards gained) and 2 TDs with 9 completions over 20 yards.  He's had only 2 games where he didn't have at least 50 yards in catches.

If you want to defend the Bills FO's personnel moves, be my guest, but don't make up stuff to do it.

Sammy Watkins has 2 games of over 3 catches this season and 1 game of over 100 yards which was against San Fran.  Does that sound like consistency to you?  Maybe consistent poor play or decoy play but he doesn't deserve the credit of being a top flight receiver that many jack him up to be.  As for Woods, he's been consistent but not worth 8 million a year for a run first team.  If I'm paying my second wide receiver on the team that much, he better be getting 1,000 yards a season for me but he didn't here.  I understand we don't throw the ball a lot but the Rams have been and yet Sammy still can't produce.  He's inconsistent

  5. How long are we giving our young players to develop and get acclimated to the league?  Zay Jones seems to have been written off by many people after half a season even though he has showed progress in the last few games not dropping any passes.  Give Shaq some time, did Mario Williams get 10 sacks his first season...no but he developed into a great pick.  Clowney didn't have great sack numbers his first few years but is now developing into a very solid player.  We expect immediate production when we really need to give these players some time.  Shaq has been with us two years and had two coaches and two different schemes.  He could use some time to learn and develop his skill set.  In the meantime, he has and will continue to set the edge against the run.  Let the young man develop before writing him off

Thats why many questioned why they went after him and yet didn't attempt to address the QB situation

There defence is already really good. He won't hurt it, but its not like he is turn9ing around a bad defence

Maybe the Jags expect to acquire their QB this year in the draft with trading draft picks since the rest of the team, for the most part, seems set.

I feel you there. However Jax was giving up 5.2yds a carry on the ground and today gave up 1.7yds a carry.

I think he will serve his purpose there just nicely, I mean he is 340 and just needs to clog lanes and let the rest of the defense get penetration.  I wish him the best but his best was never gonna be on this team again.  The fit wasn't right but I hope he kills it in Jacksonville.  Hope he doesn't waste his talent

  8. I think Hue should get another year.  We gotta remember what he took over when he got there.  They might as well had those blow up dolls you see in front of car dealerships playing for them.  They weren't even competing in games.  At least now they have some young talented players and are making a game of it.  I say he gets another draft and he picks his QB and they start winning a few games.  Their process is just gonna take a little patience because they just sucked ass when he took over.

You are 5-6 too early with this. The NFL changes week to week more that the weather does.

Maybe so but some teams are definitely falling back and trending down.  Some teams like Denver, the chargers and the raiders, all teams we thought we be competing for those final spots could be in really rough shape with a loss.  If the Raiders lose to Miami tonight, they will be 3-6 putting them in more than a difficult situation.  I don't think it's too early to look at the playoff picture and who it may come down to.

  10. Obviously we still have a chance to take the east but I think we lost our chances at that with the loss on Thursday.  With Denver having spiraled and losing to Philly so far today, Houston losing Watson for the year, Baltimore struggling today and being inconsistent all year long, the Chargers and Raiders starting off very slow...what teams do you think are our competition for the two wild card spots?  What's your opinion?

    Tennessee 5-3

Jacksonville 5-3 one of Jacksonville/Tennessee will likely take the division

    Jets 4-5

    Miami 4--4

    Baltimore 4-5

    Raiders 4-5

    Chargers 3-5

    Denver 3-5

    Houston 3-5

    Cincinnati 3-5

It funny how some Bills fan get such roid rage when our former players do well.

Jacksonville's defense was already scary...will be interesting to see how he performs.  You can't give him credit for Cincy's rushing yards though, they have too many talented players on that defense to give credit to one person.

....hard to figure out stupid money, but we know it is out there.........injury so far has limited any valued assessment of him & TT together, but would you pay him Woods type money?.....

I think based on what he showed in Philly, his size and his ability to play the slot very well, some team easily will pay him 7-8 million a year if they value the wide receiver position enough.  We don't as we are a run first team, but imagine a team like Atlanta, New England, Green Bay...teams who throw the ball a ton will definitely pay that for him no doubt in my mind.  He was a productive receiver with not that great of QB play in Philly.  Imagine what he would do with a Rodgers or a Stafford or a Brady?

  13. I just think we have bigger needs now.  An aging offensive line that isn't all that great and an aging slow front seven that can't rush the passer on defense are number one needs IMO.  If we don't upgrade them, we will see a lot of games like the Jets game next year

...Matthews may DEMAND, but what is your assessment as far as big money takers?........I'm thinking he would have to rebound big time and play lights out down the stretch before big money is in the offing....then again, stupid money is around.....as a reference point, would you pay him Woods type money?...........

Exactly my point.  Teams like the Rams of this year will see a player who is 25 or 26, good size and productive on pass first teams and throw money at them just like the Rams with Woods, Washington with Pryor and so on.  Who knows though, just saying it certainly is a possibility

Not saying they would have, but I would have offered our 1st rounder from the Chiefs...maybe they would have taken the higher pick, maybe not.

He is so unproven, I would not be willing to throw a 1st rounder for him.  He is a short QB who can run well...sound familiar?  He played sparingly in a system that helps the QB play well and throw the ball quickly before any pressure can get to him.  Not convinced he will be a great or even above average QB going forward.  I agree the cost isn't that bad but I'd rather draft our guy if we were looking to replace Tyrod.  This team just needs to be patient and fill in the holes in the mean time until they get the opportunity to draft the right guy.  Watson might have been the biggiest miss so far even though he resembled Tyrod perhaps too much for people's liking.  We must be patient.

  16. How much money do you plan to use at the wide receiver position?  I think they may let Matthews go if he demands a large contract, they may bring in some speed but not something that will be too costly.  Clay, Shady and now Benjamin are all weapons with large contracts attached too them.  With all the holes on this team, they can't afford to bring in someone like Landry with a large contract.  Maybe they address it somewhere in the draft but for now, wide receiver is no longer a major need.  The offensive line and defense needs to get younger and a running mate/eventual replacement are major needs in this upcoming offseason.

  17. We'd most likely go through another middle of the pack or worse year or two even if we got the QB.  We wouldn't be able to help the aging slow defense which has played well this year but who knows how this no name group would play next year with a bunch of 30 plus year olds on the front 7.  The offensive line also wouldn't be able to be upgraded that much.  I think it would be not smart to throw all of these picks at a QB this year.  There are too many holes on this team.  If we use all of the draft picks to fill the holes and let the QBs compete next year.  If we still think we need a QB, you can trade all your picks next year up to try and grab one after filling a lot of the holes on this team with solid young talent.  Fact is we need to get younger.  We looked really old and tired Thursday.  Stay put and draft to fill the holes on this team.
