    really?

that influenced you in that weird way? You could not find time to expand your scope of knowledge of the world because your dad introduced you to sports?

My father was not into sports in the least. I found it on my own and also still discovered all the worlds negatives and positives from school and news....etc....... sports never influences my view of the real world. Even the players/actors are acting many times when in public for the media attention so it is all just a show. It is just entertainment like a movie, concert, comedian etc etc.......

I became a 3 sport athlete...training/practice was very time consuming. Everyone’s experience is different. Just giving a different perspective.

Rooting for teams in professional sports is more important to me than religion.

In like manner, I know that, in the end, none of it will matter.

Would be great to cheer with my sons for our Bills.

But ultimately it’s their call. I don’t push too hard.

Look, I’m not telling you what to do. I’d never do that. I’m simply showing you an example of someone who was in your son’s position before and wished his Dad didn’t push sports on him. It pulled me away from reality my entire childhood. I was so ignorant growing up because my Dad told me to care about “pleasures.” These pleasures left little time for me to learn and develop a greater knowledge base. I took off the virtual reality glasses later to see the world’s problems and America’s appauling problems but I feel so protected and blinded my whole life because of sports.

A saying goes something like, “if someone doesn’t have a deeper sense of meaning in life they rely on pleasures to distract themselves.” I feel more myself than i’ve ever been because I broke free of it’s distraction. I feel like I have a deeper meaning now.

I love my Dad but I would be better off today if he hadn’t brought me to all of those sporting events and cheered me into joining them. I just wanted to make him happy. I was 8 and loved my Dad. I look back and wish he’d let me explore as I wanted to. Maybe my high school years wouldn’t have been so depressing.

Just giving you a different perspective from a young adult’s point of view. Have a great day ?

I debated this for a long time.

Do I make my son's first trip to the Ralph a PRESEASON GAME?

Or do I take him when the place is going to be electric?  Season Opener, Week 4 vs Pats?

My kid is 7, almost 8, and he doesn't REALLY care about the Bills or football like I do...

And since it's my first time as a season ticket holder, and these tickets are NOT selling, so I figured we would head down there and enjoy Kids day.

He should get some special treatment in an easy atmosphere.

My older son's first game was when he was 6...(Season Opener, vs Dolphins, 2010) with a bunch of rednecks behind us dropping N-bombs all game.
Not very fun....plus we sucked so bad.

Don’t allow the kid to invest himself into something that matters not to the real issues of the world. I grew up being taught by my Dad and while I love his intention, it gave me a late start on focusing on the real issues in life. Every second that I had free, I was looking up highlights and stats and watching old Super Bowls. I had such passion. I ask myself every day now, how much further ahead I would be as a caring person if I would have used that energy to learn more of the things that actually matter. I’ve disconnected from sports and taken those video game glasses off as well. Stopped listening to news channels and found the world to be a hot mess. If you want to hide your child from the world, then I suggest you do as you please. If you want to prepare them for the world, let them be creative and explore their inner artist (great way to express yourself). Let them stay curious and be scientific! It will only help them prepare for their future problems. Wish you and your son well!

They made a ton of offensive acquisitions and they have their QB. I'm sure the offense will need to be addressed next offseason. There's no reason you can't sign Clowney AND address the offense next year. The time to strike is when you're QB is on his rookie deal. Why not NOW? Sustained success just seems like another way of saying next NEXT year. At some point, these guys gotta win.

If you are giving up next years 1 like the Frank Clark deal, I’m out. You have a talented class of players coming in next season with a lot of the strength positions looking like they are in line with our potential needs. Free agency could include a plethora of talented DEs.

The defense wasn’t the problem last season, a DE doesn’t put us over the top. Doesn’t mean we couldn’t use another at the right time and at the right cost. A much improved offense does. I understand that we added pieces there but we have no idea if those players will gel and pan out. We aren’t in the same position as KC. We didn’t have a top offense last season. Don’t get rid of most valuable assets before the offense proves something.

The hypothetical is a second and a fourth plus 50 million guaranteed, no? Don't think anyone is proposing trading next year's first.

I was making a comparison to the Clark deal which would be a measuring stick for clowney. I don’t think a 2nd and a 4th would do it.

It’s easy to come up with a hypothetical but I think they are asking for more than that based on the Clark deal. I’m in a don’t trade the first position because the offense has too many question marks to give up that much draft capital and cap space for a defensive player.

  8. 1 hour ago, LSHMEAB said:

But that's exactly why I'd be willing to make the move for Clowney. I'm interested in seeing the Bills win NOW. The defense is already good. You add a force like Clowney and it's suddenly one that scares the crap out of opposing QB's. That's a big deal. A dominant defense can help a young QB quite a bit and makes the playoffs a DISTINCT possibility THIS year.

I just can't get down with the idea that we should wait until we know what we have on offense before making this kind of deal. We're all in on Allen. If he fails, it's gonna be a total re-do. But when you're all in, you have to go all in.

Clowney has 9.5 sacks two straight seasons on a limited number of rushes. He's an extremely talented player with the potential to be even better. You add that guy to Oliver and Hughes and look out. I think people are hung up on Clowney taking some time to develop and being labeled a bust before his career got rolling. He's legit.

I absolutely refuse to give up a 1st and a second or third plus a 100 million dollar deal before we know what the offense looks like. We could be looking for a LT next year. We could also just select a DE in the first round and keep our picks and money.

Why cant we go to the playoffs with this roster? Remember what we had when we went two years ago? It just seems like a rushed, expensive deal that could handcuff our cap space.

Our offense was terrible. If it doesn’t get better we will need to address it through the draft next year but we wouldn’t be able to do that if we make a move like this before seeing what we have. For a team that’s looking for long term sustainable success, i don’t see them giving up those assets.

  9. Who is willing to give up Frank Clark type of compensation for Clowney before we know what we have on offense? Plus we’d have to give him a $100 million deal.  They aren’t ready for that type of move imo. Learn what your offense can do this season and take your home run swings next season if it’s appropriate to do so.

Who's our long term answer opposite of Hughes?

The E in DE stands for End. There are 2 Ends to a Defensive Line.

Who's going to play opposite of Hughes and be productive for the next few years?

DE is still probably our biggest need going into the 2020 regular season.

Ok...and they have an entire offseason plus to find a guy to fill 1 spot...nothing to be nervous about. With what Beane has done and attempted to do this offseason, I think we can trust that he will do what’s in his power to fill the hole.

Some were losing their heads having only one player on the books at the position for next year and now we have a starting quality player on the books for two years.

Dont know now why you were talking to me like a toddler. 1 player isn’t exactly hard to fill especially when you look at potential free agents next season and potential draftable players at the position. Beane filled many holes in one offseason. I think he can manage adding this piece next year haha.

I agree completely. But the comment I quoted talked about alcohol, drugs, or CTE potentially being the culprits. If somebody has a mental handicap, that's a completely different issue. I realize CTE is a mental issue as well, but you don't see that linked to raping elderly women often.

Addiction is a slippery slope as well imo. Addictions can take over people’s lives, just saying.

Folks get a bit touchy about any questions around Knox.

When I mention the drops, I am referring to his 15 rec to 28 targets in 2018. The scouting feedback on Knox was that he was athletic, good size, former QB so understands that perspective, a competent blocker, and works well in space, the risk were that he was a raw route runner with inconsistent college production and will need a lot of coaching up.

He was only given 2-3 targets a game so.... sparsely used, but an argument could be made that he did not do enough with those targets. Considering the priority that OBD put on Josh having receivers that do not put the ball on the turf, Knox struck me as an odd selection looking no deeper than the production numbers.

A lot of teams showed interest in Knox so my hope is that they all saw enough to look beyond his college production and felt any issues he has can be solved with good coaching.

I do not think the plan would have been to have him take the bulk of the starting reps this season, rather they would have leaned on Kroft and gradually worked the rookies into getting reps. So it is not a slight on our rookies when folks talk about having a vet to start before throwing these guys into the fire.

All I really needed to read.

  13. 7 hours ago, WideNine said:

That is the thing. His drops and apparent lack of ability to produce in college is why there are so many ?'s around Knox.

The Bills watched a lot of tight ends in a deep class get taken before they decided to pull the trigger and trade back into the 3rd for Knox.

There is going to be some 2nd guessing around that.

It isn't hating on this kid if folks are wondering what Beane saw in Knox that trumped the production questions.

They brought the kid in for interviews/workouts prior to the draft and I do think he was the guy they were targeting so I guess we will see sooner rather than later.

But the person I quoted had suggested trading for Rudolph, my point was to wait and see what we have before we throw draft picks at a pricey player. That’s where it becomes bashing. Give the new faces a chance before you overlook them.

His drops? He rarely dropped passes and I stated he was in a system with talented receivers that gave him very limited opportunity.

Fans quick look at the stats and get disappointed or skeptical but it’s much more than that. Like I said, there are many more factors that play into stats but his abilities are what matter. Instead of looking for the next high priced option to trade for, why don’t we see what he can do first?

  14. 17 minutes ago, LSHMEAB said:

In fairness, Kelce put up 722 yards on 45 catches as a senior with a whopping 16 YPC. He also had 8 touchdowns.

When a guy doesn't score a single TD in college, there's naturally going to be skepticism. He's got the athletic ability, but there's something unsettling about a guy that didn't produce. Just have to hope he was misused at Ole Miss.

I mean they had enormous WR talent at the college level and ran an offense around those receivers. The air raid type of system put 4 wrs and a rb out on the field much of the time.

I think his his abilities are what matter and not his stats. He fits as a receiving target here where he can utilize his speed. Just hate how fans put a player down based on stats or the college they went to. There’s so many factors that come into play that are being overlooked that can drastically change a player’s production in college. Let’s watch him with Josh Allen throwing him the rock and see what he can do in this offense.

  15. 1 hour ago, C.Biscuit97 said:

Haha.  But you don’t see the problem now?  We are going to have to depend a lot on rookies.  TE is a position that has a big adjustment period to the nfl.

and I know how he finished here, but Prime Clay was so much better than any TE on the roster.  I know they tried prioritize the position but they weren’t really getting super duper talent. Kroft was a 3rd TE who couldn’t beat out a guy they said had frying pans for hands. Smith is a linemen.  Knox never caught a TD in college in an offense that passed a ton.

I think next to qb, this team has completely undervalued the TE position.  Allen would greatly benefit from a monster in the middle of the field to throw the ball to.  We don’t have anything close to that unless the rookies magically step up, which is a lot to put on them.

I hope Knox makes all the haters eat crow so bad. Not even giving the guy a chance to show what he has before bashing him.  A third round pick is a fairly valuable pick for a tight end. Some of the best tight ends in the league were taken in the middle rounds of the draft.  Travis Kelce is maybe the best in the league right now and he was a third round pick...why don't we wait to see what we have in the players we brought in before making any other moves?

It is doable, but there is a lot that needs done and the clock is ticking on some of it.  Hughes in particular.  If we don’t work something out before the season I expect him to want to hit free agency.  Then we are stuck with either tagging him or probably watching him walk.  Shaq almost certainly isn’t coming back.  Since the 5th year option came into existence only one player who had his option declined has re-signed with the team that drafted him. That was Mark Ingram with the Saints.  There obviously were players who were extended before or at the option deadline so I don’t count them.

Murphy coming back to form would be great, but here’s my issue with him: He hasn’t looked all that great since his positive PED test.  My worry is that he was only as good as he was because he was juicing and now that he (presumably) isn’t, he will be nothing more than average.  Maybe it was his injury that was the issue and I’m being harsh, but I will not expect him to be able to return to form until I see it.  It’d be great if he did though.

So so those are my worries.  Hughes walks, Murphy doesn’t come back to form and Shaq is out.  Ugh.  I’ll relax if/when we re-sign Hughes and Murphy steps it back up.  I’ve completely written off Shaq after this season.  Things can be worked out, but until I see something positive happen I’m going to be nervous.

A lot of worrying happening here. Take a breath. I have to disagree with you about Lawson. He was much better last season. His sack numbers did not show how good of an end he was. He hit the Qb 12 times, had 5 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles, all career highs. He was an actual disruptor at times and gained some respect from the coaching staff. He only played 43% of snaps. He improved and I expect him to improve more this season. He may not get a massive contract but if he improves he could still be signed as a rotational piece.

I cant remember his exact combine strength stuff but Harrison was off the charts on a few things.  Projected at the 1 tech as more of a backup to Star than Kyle.

    .

True but he still has the ability to play both spots due to his ability to beat one on ones. Hes certainly more of a 1 tech but I’m sure they will mix him in on both sides.

  18. 55 minutes ago, BarleyNY said:

Yeah. Until the team is 100% on Allen we can’t give up 1s or 2s in moves like that.  The DE position on this team is definitely in need of attention though.  I do not know what up with the Bills and Hughes.  Not a peep about an extension, which worries me.  Hopefully it’s happening quietly.  No Shaq next season which leaves us with nothing at DE except a middling, very well paid Murphy.  So for 2019 we’ve got one difference maker and two very average players.

For 2020 right now all we have is Murphy.  Ugh.  The DE position is going to cost some cap space and/or draft capital to fix.  Two difference makers would be preferable to one if we are serious about the playoffs.  We also need at least one good depth player and, again, two would be better.  Murphy could be a guy who can continue to start while a rookie is brought along.  If we are confident in Allen, then making a big draft or trade move for such a player would be reasonable.  If Hughes also can be extended we are well on our way.

To round out the front 7 we will have to replace or re-sign Lorax.  Also Milano will be entering his fourth season in 2020 so it’ll be proper time to give him a long term deal.  We seem set for a 3 DT rotation with Oliver, H. Phillips and Star so nothing to do there except look for our #4.  That’ll be J. Phillips this season but we will be looking for a cheaper alternative next.

I think it’s doable next offseason to fill those holes. Hughes could come back, Shaq could take another step and resign, Murphy could prove he can stay healthy and return to 9 sack form. More will certainly need to be added. Looking at them to address it aggressively next offseason after they see what their offense looks like and they’ll figure out their needs moving forward. Beane will be on the hunt for any talent that moves.

I know players are hard to find, but I would feel so much better having that one piece...a high quality and disruptive man on the edge.

If it’s a trade, I’d rather not pay a ransom like the Frank Clark trade and wait until next year to find a guy or remake the position entirely. There looks to be a solid free agent class next year and there will be quality ones in next year’s draft as well. I hope they don’t overpay for a defensive player and give up a next year’s 1st before we know what our offense looks like. Why handcuff ourselves like that?

I do do think they may look for a smaller deal or a waiver pickup to add more depth.

  20. 20 minutes ago, Rocket94 said:

Phillips and Oliver should develop a solid relationship. We have a good idea about Oliver already and Phillips play should elevate...he is still young himself. How can a player not do better with Oliver in support...he is probably contagious to be around.

Hoping they add a few rookie edge rushers next year to add to the young front 7 they are building.

    34 minutes ago, Dopey said:

This. He can and I think will rotate with both Star and Oliver.

He can play both and I think Jordan Phillips can play both as well. It’s nice to have some versatile depth.
